Stanford develops milli-spinner device for more effective stroke treatment

Researchers at Stanford University say they have developed a more effective way to treat strokes.

The new technology, called the milli-spinner thrombectomy, has been shown to have more successful outcomes for patients who have experienced strokes, as well as heart attacks, pulmonary embolisms and other clot-related diseases, according to a press release from the university.

Blood clots are clumped together by thread-like proteins called fibrin. The milli-spinner — which is a long, hollow, rotating tube with a series of “fins and slits” — enters the body through a catheter and applies force and suction to the clot.

EXPERIMENTAL CHOLESTEROL PILL CUTS HEART ATTACK RISK WITH ‘CONVENIENT’ ONCE-DAILY DOSE

As a result, the blood clot is reduced in size — down to as little as 5% of its original volume — without breaking any of the fibrin threads.

That’s important because breaking up the clot can result in pieces of it escaping and getting stuck in hard-to-reach places, the researchers noted.

With the milli-spinner, red blood cells are “freed” and the much smaller fibrin clot is removed from the body.

“With existing technology, there’s no way to reduce the size of the clot. They rely on deforming and rupturing the clot to remove it,” said senior author Renee Zhao, an assistant professor of mechanical engineering, in the release.

BOY, 6, SUFFERS LIFE-THREATENING STROKE THAT CAUSES PARALYSIS: ‘RARE COMPLICATION’

“What’s unique about the milli-spinner is that it applies compression and shear forces to shrink the entire clot, dramatically reducing the volume without causing rupture.”

Time is of the essence when treating an ischemic stroke, which is when the clot is cutting off oxygen to the brain. Studies have shown that for every minute during a stroke, 1.9 million brain neurons and 14 billion synapses are destroyed.

With current technologies, clots are only removed about half the time on the first try, and they fail completely about 15% of the time. (iStock)

With current technologies, clots are only removed about half the time on the first try, the release stated, and they fail completely about 15% of the time.

“For most cases, we’re more than doubling the efficacy of current technology, and for the toughest clots – which we’re only removing about 11% of the time with current devices – we’re getting the artery open on the first try 90% of the time,” said co-author Jeremy Heit, chief of neuroimaging and neurointervention at Stanford, in the release.

“This is a sea-change technology that will drastically improve our ability to help people.”

The researchers’ findings, which incorporated both animal studies and machine-based flow models, were published June 4 in the journal Nature.

The multi-spinner could potentially be used for other applications, such as capturing and removing kidney stone fragments, the release noted.

The team is now working to get the new technology approved for clinical use, with clinical trials expected to begin soon.

“What makes this technology truly exciting is its unique mechanism to actively reshape and compact clots, rather than just extracting them,” Zhao said.

“We’re working to bring this into clinical settings, where it could significantly boost the success rate of thrombectomy procedures and save patients’ lives.”

A close call with a Facebook scam that tried to steal credit card info

Have you ever received a suspicious email or pop-up that made your heart race, even for a second? You’re not alone. Online scams are getting more convincing every day, and even the most tech-savvy among us can find ourselves just one click away from trouble.

Phishing is one of the most common ways scammers can access your personal information. Many people fall victim to it every day, which is why this email we received was not surprising.

Just ask “Pamela,” who wrote to us: “I thought I couldn’t be scammed, but I almost was.”

Her story is a reminder that anyone can fall for a well-executed scam. We’ll share what happened to her below, how she caught on just in time, some tips on how to avoid being scammed on Facebook, and how to report it.

A close call with a Facebook scam that tried to steal credit card info

Facebook scam warning: How Pamela almost fell for a tech support hoax

“I was working on my Facebook and it suddenly had a screen flash and voice that said the computer was locked and I needed to call a number to report the breach. I thought it was Microsoft so I called the number. The guy was good. He gave me a name and employee number and we went through some things on my computer which brought up a screen that said ‘scammers were listening’ and my IP was being used on the Porn Hub. I thought, how could that be? But still, I was obtuse.

“The screen listed what he said were all my credit cards that had been compromised, but only the beginning numbers: 3xxx, 4xxx, 5xxx, etc. He said in order to make a report to the FTC I needed to tell him all of the numbers. I told him I was not going to do that even though he insisted I had to for the ‘report.’ Then he said he would transfer me to the FTC and gave me a number in case we were disconnected. A different guy answered, gave me his name and said he was Andrew Ferguson, head of the FTC.

“I’ve been in politics and business for over 50 years. I looked him up while still on the phone and realized the head of the FTC wouldn’t be answering a support line. When I refused to give him my information, he yelled that my IP was being used on porn sites and didn’t want to stop it. I hung up.

“I have great virus software on all my devices and use two-step authentication for almost everything – but I still almost fell for it. I’m sharing this story to help others.”

Pamela was fortunate. Her security measures and quick thinking saved her, but these tactics are becoming more common and more aggressive. Here’s what you can do to stay safe.

Beware of pop-up scams that impersonate Microsoft or the FTC

Scammers often use alarming pop-up messages or automated voices claiming your device is compromised, urging you to call a number for help. As described in Pamela’s experience, a pop-up claimed her computer was locked and played a voice message directing her to call what appeared to be a Microsoft support number. The scammer then impersonated both a Microsoft employee and a government official, using fake names and employee numbers, and tried to pressure her into revealing sensitive information.

If you ever receive a pop-up or voice message claiming your device is at risk, do not call the number provided or share any personal information. Instead, contact the organization directly using official contact details from their website. Legitimate companies and government agencies will never ask you to provide sensitive information or credit card numbers over the phone in response to unsolicited pop-ups or calls.

Protect your online accounts with strong, unique passwords

Make sure each of your online accounts has a unique password. This prevents scammers from accessing multiple accounts if one gets compromised. While password generators provide secure passwords, you can also easily create one that’s hard to crack by looking at three random things in the room and using them to form a password. Consider using a password manager for strong, unique passwords. A password manager helps you generate and securely store complex, unique passwords for each of your accounts. This prevents you from reusing passwords and makes it much harder for scammers to access multiple accounts if one is compromised. Get more details about my best expert-reviewed password managers of 2025 here.

Don’t fall for urgency: How scammers pressure you to act fast

Scammers will create a false sense of urgency to make you act quickly without thinking. Take your time to verify any urgent requests, especially those involving money or personal information. Don’t act on impulse.

Check URLs carefully before you click them, and use strong antivirus software

Verify links before clicking them, especially if they come from someone who randomly contacted you on the internet. Scammers often use URLs that look similar to legitimate sites, but they typically contain slight misspellings or different domains (e.g., payepal.com or Microsoft.xyz). Also, install and update strong antivirus software.
Protect all your devices, including computers, tablets, and smartphones, with strong antivirus software. The best way to safeguard yourself from malicious links that install malware, potentially accessing your private information, is to have antivirus software installed on all your devices. This protection can also alert you to phishing emails and ransomware scams, keeping your personal information and digital assets safe. Get my picks for the best 2025 antivirus protection winners for your Windows, Mac, Android and iOS devices.

DON’T CLICK THAT LINK! HOW TO SPOT AND PREVENT PHISHING ATTACKS IN YOUR INBOX

Always update the software you use

Be sure each operating system, browser, and security software you use is updated on your computers and mobile devices. These updates often include patches that fix security vulnerabilities that scammers might exploit.

Be cautious with personal information on social media

Think twice before sharing personal details, such as your birthday, address, or even your pet’s name. Scammers can use information from your social media profiles to guess passwords or craft personalized phishing attacks.

Enable multifactor authentication (MFA) on all accounts

Don’t limit MFA to just your main accounts. Enable it wherever possible, including email, social media, and financial services. Multifactor authentication adds an extra step to the login process, making it significantly harder for scammers to gain access, even if they have your password.

Use a personal data removal service to clean up your online footprint

Scammers often scour the internet for your personal information. Using a personal data removal service can help reduce the amount of your sensitive data available online, making it harder for scammers to target you with convincing attacks. While no service can guarantee the complete removal of your data from the internet, a data removal service is really a smart choice. They aren’t cheap and neither is your privacy.

These services do all the work for you by actively monitoring and systematically erasing your personal information from hundreds of websites. It’s what gives me peace of mind and has proven to be the most effective way to erase your personal data from the internet. By limiting the information available, you reduce the risk of scammers cross-referencing data from breaches with information they might find on the dark web, making it harder for them to target you. Check out my top picks for data removal services here.

Regularly review your financial statements and credit reports

Monitor your bank accounts, credit cards, and credit reports for any unusual or unauthorized activity. Early detection is key. If you spot something suspicious, report it immediately to your financial institution and the proper authorities.

Back up your important data regularly

Ransomware and other attacks can lock you out of your files. Regularly back up your important data to an external hard drive or a secure cloud service. This ensures you can recover your information if your device is compromised.

Report online scams to these official authorities

If you encounter a scam, reporting it to the proper authorities can help you recover lost funds and prevent others from falling victim to the same scam. By reporting scams, you contribute to a database that allows law enforcement to track patterns and catch criminals. Places you can report to include the FTC, your local FBI office, the IC3 and your state’s consumer protection office.

Kurt’s key takeaways

Keep in mind that scammers are constantly evolving their tactics. You must always be on guard. Do not rely too heavily on technology to protect you, since there is a psychological aspect to their methods as well. Have a skeptical mindset and trust your instincts. By sharing experiences and staying informed, we strengthen our community’s defense against cybercrime.

Barcelona locals protest tourists with water guns amid overtourism concerns

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

As European countries continue to grapple with overtourism, some citizens are taking a stand.

Protesters gathered in Barcelona and on the Spanish island of Mallorca on Sunday to protest against travelers to their country by spraying them with water guns, The Associated Press (AP) reported.

Demonstrators marched with signs saying, “One more tourist, one less resident,” and “Tourist Go Home.” The demonstrators are demanding a reworking of their local economy.

Spaniard Andreu Martínez humorously told the AP that the use of the squirt guns is to annoy the tourists a bit.

“Barcelona has been handed to the tourists. This is a fight to give Barcelona back to its residents,” said Martínez.

He said his rent has risen over 30%, with apartments in his neighborhood continually being rented out for short-term vacations.

“Our lives, as lifelong residents of Barcelona, are coming to an end,” he said. “We are being pushed out systematically.”

Martínez said many traditional stores have been replaced by souvenir shops, bubble tea shops and burger joints to meet the demand of tourists.

In May, the Spanish government ordered Airbnb to remove about 66,000 vacation rentals for violating local rules, AP reported.

Jaime Rodríguez de Santiago, Airbnb’s general director for Spain and Portugal, told AP that Airbnb is not responsible for overtourism.

“I think a lot of our politicians have found an easy scapegoat to blame for the inefficiencies of their policies in terms of housing and tourism over the last 10, 15, 20 years,” said Rodríguez.

Barcelona officials had planned to ban short-term tourist apartment rentals by 2028, FOX Business previously reported.

Short-term rentals in Barcelona have been stagnant for years, remaining at around 10,000 since 2014, according to figures from Barcelona’s City Hall.

Barcelona city data indicates around 850,000 homes exist in Barcelona, making the 10,000 or so short-term rentals a fraction of total housing.

Popular cities across Europe held their own tourism protests, with locals gathering in Venice, Italy, and Lisbon, Portugal.

Built on the VAN.EA platform: The future of electric luxury vans

The Vision V is built on Mercedes’ new VAN.EA electric platform, which will support a lineup of high-end electric vans starting in 2026. Competing in a new segment: Luxury vans for private owners

With the Vision V, Mercedes is targeting a growing trend of luxury vans for private ownership. While this segment has been popular in Asia, it’s now making its way to the U.S. The Vision V is set to compete with high-end minivans like the Lexus LM and Volvo EM90, but it goes even further with its focus on digital experiences and personalized luxury.

Cost and pricing expectations for the Mercedes Vision V

While Mercedes-Benz has not officially announced the price for the production version of the Vision V, early reports and industry speculation suggest that this luxury van could cost around $200,000, especially for models equipped with all the high-end features seen in the concept.

For context, the current V-Class starts at about $60,000 in Germany and can exceed $100,000 with options, so it’s reasonable to expect the Vision V to command a significant premium, positioning it well above existing luxury van offerings. As with most high-end vehicles, the final price will likely depend on customization and selected features, but the Vision V is clearly aimed at buyers seeking exclusivity and the ultimate in automotive luxury.

Trump endorses freshman House Republican less than six months into first term

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

President Donald Trump issued a full-throated endorsement of Rep. Abe Hamadeh, R-Ariz., backing the lawmaker for re-election less than half a year into the freshman House member’s first term in office.

“Abe Hamadeh has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election – HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” the president declared in a Truth Social post in which he described the congressman as “an America First Patriot.”

Trump endorsed Hamadeh in December 2023, ahead of the 2024 GOP U.S. House primary in Arizona’s 8th Congressional District.

But then later he issued an unusual dual endorsement of both Hamadeh and another GOP primary candidate, Blake Masters, just ahead of the 2024 contest that Hamadeh ultimately won.

Back in February Hamadeh introduced a resolution to limit the types of flags that may be displayed in House facilities, though the text of the proposal stipulates that it would not “apply to the individual personal office space of a Member of the House of Representatives.”

The resolution would allow for displaying the American flag and various other kinds of flags, some of which would include “The State flag of the represented district of a Member of the House of Representatives, displayed adjacent to the office of such Member” and “The flags of visiting foreign dignitaries during an official visit.”

“Congress is supposed to embody the AMERICAN people. That’s why I’ve introduced a resolution to ban foreign and ideological flags in the Halls of Congress. It’s pathetic that I even have to introduce this resolution,” Hamadeh declared in a tweet this month.

Six other House Republicans are listed as cosponsors on congress.gov, including three original cosponsors and three other lawmakers listed as backing the measure this month.

New research shows that working too many hours physically alters brain structure

0

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

New research has found that being overworked can physically alter the brain.

Researchers in South Korea set out to understand how working long hours impact the cognitive and emotional health of employees.

The study, published in the journal Occupational & Environmental Medicine, assessed the brain volume of 110 healthcare workers who were classified by the categories of overworked – working greater than or equal to 52 hours per week – and non-overworked.

LOW-CALORIE DIETS LINKED TO SURPRISING MENTAL HEALTH EFFECT, NEW RESEARCH SHOWS

The results revealed that overworked individuals exhibited “significant changes” in brain regions that are associated with executive function and emotional regulation.

Study co-author Wanhyung Lee, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor at Chung-Ang University College of Medicine in Seoul, told Fox News Digital that this is one of the first studies to examine the relationship between prolonged working hours and structural brain changes.

New research has shown that overworked individuals exhibited “significant changes” in key brain regions.  (iStock)

“We initially had no clear expectations regarding what we might discover,” he revealed. “Therefore, we found the results particularly intriguing.”

The researcher noted that increased brain volume associated with cognitive and emotional functions was an “unexpected and fascinating” observation of the study.

“These findings open new questions and underscore the complexity of how chronic occupational stress might affect brain health, highlighting the need for further detailed investigations,” he said.

‘I’M A NEUROSURGEON – THIS IS WHAT I EAT FOR A BRAIN-HEALTHY BREAKFAST’

The increased brain volume as observed was found in regions associated with executive functions, Lee said, such as memory, decision-making and attention — as well as emotional regulation, such as stress management and emotional stability.

While these changes may initially reflect a need to manage “ongoing occupational stress,” according to Lee, there could be potential risks of prolonged or chronic alterations.

This could include neural strain, inflammation or maladaptive reorganization.

Working long hours could potentially have a long-term impact on brain function, a study co-author and professor (not pictured) has suggested. (iStock)

“Although our current study cannot conclusively determine the long-term impacts, ongoing exposure without sufficient recovery may negatively affect cognitive and emotional health,” he said.

Lee urged employees who work excessive hours to recognize that chronic stress can lead to physical brain changes, not just psychological complications. This emphasizes the need to manage workload, prioritize rest and maintain emotional balance.

“At the same time, individual efforts alone are not sufficient; organizational support and proactive management by companies to create healthy working conditions are essential to protect employees’ brain health,” he said.

NEGATIVE THOUGHTS MIGHT BE CHANGING YOUR BRAIN IN SURPRISING WAYS, STUDY SUGGESTS

“With the rapid advancement of smartphones and digital technology, work increasingly extends beyond traditional office hours into personal time, making chronic overwork more common and less visible,” Lee went on. “Employers and policymakers must also acknowledge and address these evolving work patterns to support sustainable working environments.”

The researcher recognized the progressive move toward becoming an “overwork society.” He urged employees to “actively set boundaries, ensure regular rest and recovery, practice stress management, and advocate for workplace policies that clearly define and respect healthy work-hour limits.”

There’s “no question” too much mental stress can alter the brain, said a neurosurgeon. (iStock)

Dr. Paul Saphier, a neurosurgeon and founder of Coaxial Neurosurgical Specialists in New Jersey, was not involved in the study but commented on the findings in an interview with Fox News Digital.

Saphier considered the study interesting, yet not “overly surprising.”

“There is no question that mental stress and fatigue, either with sleep deprivation, anxiety, long periods of intense concentration, etc., lead to alteration of neurotransmitter release and additional physiological changes,” he said. “This may ultimately lead to anatomical changes within the brain.”

Experts have known that professions that require “crisp cognitive awareness” with “zero room for error” — such as airline pilots and medical professionals — benefit from “limited consecutive work hours to reduce errors,” said the neurosurgeon.

“Caring for your mental health and well-being is essential if you want to be a productive employee,” one career expert said.  (iStock)

Kyle Elliott, a California-based tech career coach and mental health expert, also weighed in during a separate interview with Fox News Digital.

“Caring for your mental health and well-being is essential if you want to be a productive employee,” he said.

“Neglecting your mental health can not only affect your ability to work effectively but also negatively impact your physical health and longevity.”

Elliot encouraged employees to advocate for their needs.

“Don’t be afraid to speak up [at work or to employers] if you need to take a break or time off to protect your mental or physical health,” he said. “Your mind and body will thank you in the long run.”

The expert suggested taking smaller steps to preserve mental health and prevent burnout, such as taking allocated breaks throughout the workday, connecting with people who are safe to share your frustration with and limiting time on social media.

Multiple killed, dozens wounded in Israel after Iran launches new wave of missile strikes

Iran launched a new wave of missile attacks against Israel on Monday morning, killing at least eight people and wounding dozens of others, according to Israeli emergency services.

Four people in their 70s — two men and two women — were among the people killed in the wave of missile attacks that struck four sites in central Israel, the Israeli Magen David Adom emergency service reported.

In addition to those killed, the MDA said more than 100 others had been evacuated and transported to hospitals, including a 30-year-old woman in serious condition, while rescuers continued to search for people trapped beneath the rubble of destroyed homes.

A six-day-old baby was among those pulled from the rubble.

The attacks raised Israel’s casualties total to at least 24 dead and more than 500 wounded in the conflict that began Friday with an Israeli offensive against Iran.

The Israeli military said its fighter jets responded to the attacks on Monday by striking 10 command centers in Tehran that belonged to Quds Force, an elite arm of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard that conducts military and intelligence operations.

Powerful explosions, likely from Israel’s defense systems intercepting Iranian missiles, shook Tel Aviv shortly before dawn.

A missile fell near the U.S. Embassy branch in Tel Aviv, causing some minor damage to property from concussions of the blast, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said on X. There were no injuries to U.S. personnel.

Iran announced it had launched about 100 missiles and promised further retaliation in response to Israel’s attacks on its military and nuclear infrastructure.

At least 224 people have been killed and roughly 1,300 have been wounded in Iran since Israel began its offensive on Friday, and the vast majority of casualties were civilians, according to Iran’s Ministry of Health.

Rights groups, such as the Washington-based Iranian advocacy group Human Rights Activists, have suggested that the Iranian government is undercounting the death toll. The group says it has documented more than 400 people killed, including 197 civilians.

Authorities in the central Israeli city of Petah Tikva said Iranian missiles had struck a residential building, charring concrete walls, shattering windows and pulling the walls off multiple apartments.

On Sunday, during an earlier wave of Iranian missiles on central Israel, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran will stop its strikes if Israel halts its attacks.

But after a day of intensive Israeli aerial attacks that extended targets beyond military installations to hit oil refineries and government buildings, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard pledged on Monday that additional rounds of strikes would be “more forceful, severe, precise and destructive than previous ones.”

Israel argues that its assault on Iran’s top military leaders, uranium enrichment sites and nuclear scientists was necessary to stop Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

Iran has maintained that its nuclear program is peaceful, and U.S. intelligence agencies and the International Atomic Energy Agency have said Iran was not pursuing a nuclear weapon.

Another seat swapper strikes again as a flight passenger is sharing her first experience with “seat swap shenanigans.”

Posting in the “r/delta” forum on Reddit, a user wrote that she and her husband were on a “long-haul flight” prompting them to upgrade to comfort-plus in a “2-3-2 configuration. “

“We each got an aisle seat with someone seated between us, so my husband decided to offer to switch his aisle seat with the fellow in between,” the woman wrote.

“Here’s where the strange part comes in,” she added.

“Fellow in the middle is happy to swap, but then he wants me to swap with his wife, so they won’t be separated. I declined because where would that leave me?”

An airline passenger declined a misleading seat swap request that would have downgraded her from comfort plus to economy, she said.  (iStock)

The woman said that if she accepted the offer, she would have ended up in an economy seat.

“Dude went back to economy and found someone to switch with [him] so he could be with his wife. I guess he upgraded to C+ middle and hoped to pull a fast one,” the user said.

She revealed that a “delightful woman from Germany got a free upgrade and is happily sitting in the aisle seat.”

“I’ve read of several seat-swap shenanigans, but I never expected to experience it myself,” the post concluded.

Redditors took to the comments section to discuss the seat-swapping phenomenon and share their own flying experiences.

“Here’s a wacky idea that could work in 99% of the seat-swap posts I see here,” said one user.

“Buy the seat you want and sit there. If the seat you want isn’t available anymore, buy the best option and sit there.”

The same user continued, “If you can’t be separated from your traveling companion for the length of a flight, drive.”

“We [have] offered to swap more as a courtesy to the person in the middle than as a necessity of sitting together,” commented one person.

Another Redditor wrote, “Nice that it worked out.”

“I would never ask someone to switch seats,” said yet another person.

One user on the platform wrote, “Just got home from a long weekend solo trip. Trip out, I offered to swap seats with the husband so he could sit with his wife. They were happy. I was happy.”

“Today’s [flight attendant] asked if I would swap so an older couple could sit together,” the same person continued.

“Yup, no problem. I will admit that it was my first time treating myself to first class, so a first-class-to-first-class swap was not punishment, but as a solo traveler, I was happy to help couples sit together.”

Another user wrote, “I feel like a lot of the seat-swap drama posts are fake (or at least heavily played up) or … [they’re] just assuming the illest of wills when folks really aren’t trying to scam someone.”

California-based etiquette expert Rosalinda Randall weighed in on the situation, telling Fox News Digital that “no one has the obligation to switch their seat” on a plane.

“Have a compelling reason that will resonate.”

“The person making the request has no right to expect [this] or make a scene when they don’t get their way,” she said. “It is one’s prerogative to make requests, as it is also the prerogative of the one being asked to deny a request.”

She added, “Sometimes such requests make us roll our eyes in disbelief. But there are people who don’t often fly, have a fear, a language barrier, or a very pushy spouse or boyfriend who forces them to make absurd requests.”

Gary Leff, a Texas-based travel industry expert and author of the blog “View From the Wing,” told Fox News Digital that although the person with the ticket is entitled to the seat, sometimes flyers can try their luck on board by simply asking others to swap.

“Have a compelling reason that will resonate with the person you’re asking,” said Leff.

Leff added that if you “have something decent to offer in return, it isn’t as much of a hardship for the person to give you what you want.”

Internet weighs in on Reddit travel dispute when husband refuses airport pickup for wife

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A viral Reddit post has commenters divided on the attitudes and actions of a sparring couple who have been traveling for both business and pleasure — and were unable to agree on protocol for airport travel.

A man asked others in his post if he was wrong “for asking my wife to meet me at the hotel instead of picking her up from the airport?”

He said the pair were traveling, “but I arrived in the city a week earlier for work. I’ve been staying at an airbnb,” he added, “and once she gets here, we’re moving into a hotel together for the rest of the trip.”

WOMAN RIPS INTO ‘STUPID SHOWERS AT HOTELS’ AND THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR DESIGNING THEM

He didn’t rent a car, he said, so he’d been “using Uber to get around. When she told me her arrival time, I suggested she just take an Uber from the airport to the hotel instead of me coming to pick her up.”

This way, he said, he wouldn’t “have to Uber to the airport, then Uber again to the hotel with her. It felt like an unnecessary loop.”

He said she “also knows the city well – we actually lived here for a year a couple of years ago, so she’s totally familiar with the airport and how to get around.”

The husband said his suggestion “made more logistical sense, but she was really upset when I suggested this.”

So he wondered if he was in the wrong “for not picking her up from the airport.”

FLIGHT PASSENGERS COMPLAIN ABOUT MASKLESS COUGHING ON BOARD AS SUMMER TRAVEL HEATS UP

More than 1,000 people reacted to the post to date, with a variety of opinions shared about the dilemma.

Wrote the top commenter, “You’re thinking of practical logistics. She’s thinking she wants to see her partner asap and that [he’d] be excited to see her asap” as well.

“Your wife’s feelings,” wrote one commenter about the travel dilemma, “are worth the extra Uber ride even if it seems unnecessary to you.” (iStock)

Another commenter said no one was in the wrong in this scenario, but “making your spouse happy sometimes requires you to be much better than an a–hole.”

The person added, “Personally, that’s how my family operates, too. Unless there are significant obstacles, we have never not picked up whoever is arriving or at least met them halfway. It’s the sentiment that matters.”

“It’s a nice gesture to meet your partner or loved one at the airport.”

Said another person in the comments section, “It’s a nice gesture to meet your partner or loved one at the airport, and it shows you’re excited to see them. It sounds like you’re more of a practical person, and your wife sounds more romantic and sensitive.

The same person added, “Also, she might need help with her luggage … Your wife’s feelings are worth the extra Uber ride even if it seems unnecessary to you.”

Another writer was far more blunt. “I think the wife needs to grow up,” this person said.

“You know she can handle it. SHE knows she can handle it on her own. That’s not the point. Clearly,” wrote one person.  (iStock)

A different person offered this perspective: “I’d say if it matters this much to her … and it is simply logical to you (but really doesn’t MATTER all that much) … then your wife should be the priority here.”

The person went on, “I can absolutely see both sides. Your suggestion was not made to make her feel like you weren’t eager to see her or like you didn’t think she [could] handle it on her own. You know she can handle it. SHE knows she can handle it on her own. That’s not the point. Clearly.”

The commenter added, “So I guess it comes down to how much your wife’s feelings matter to you? This topic clearly means a lot to her for whatever reason.”

The original poster — after many comments had already come in — added later to his post, “I’ve been on a bunch of business trips and she’s never come to meet me at the airport when I got back (which I’ve been totally fine with), so I thought it wasn’t a big deal for her, and had already scheduled a business meeting around her arrival time.”
