Noted Author & Health Coach Connie Bennett Releases Her Latest Book,“I BLEW MY DIET! NOW WHAT?” 3

Let’s face it. Consistently eating healthy foods and leading a healthy lifestyle is challenging even if you don’t experience major losses, adverse events, or life changes. So, what’s a person to do? Hope and help are here!

San Diego, California, June 14, 2025, Former carbs-addicted journalist Connie Bennett—author of the bestselling books, Sugar Shock! (Berkley Books) and Beyond Sugar Shock (Hay House)—knows firsthand how quickly we can “lose” our willpower when times get tough. After more than a decade of eating cleanly (no sugar, gluten, or artificial sweeteners), Bennett blew her diet big-time after a heartbreaking year helplessly watching her mother succumb to cancer.

Suddenly, the once-committed health expert mindlessly overloaded on ultra-processed carbs, quickly gained twenty-one pounds, and developed insulin resistance. She felt extremely ashamed. But hitting rock bottom also made her deeply curious. Bennett longed to discover: Why do so many of us eat so badly? And how can we take back our power?

The journalist dove into the research for seven-plus years to get answers. The result is I BLEW MY DIET! NOW WHAT? The Easy, Proven 21-Day Plan to Drop Pounds & Bounce Back Boldly, a compassionate guidebook that helps readers who seek to recommit to their health goals after unforeseen obstacles derailed their efforts.

In this engaging, eye-opening, groundbreaking book, Bennett guides readers to:

  • Identify 21 Big Reasons they ate badly and threw dietary caution to the wind.
  • Flip on a Success Mindset which sees them through trying times.
  • Implement FEASTS (Fast, Easy, Awesome, Simple, Tested Strategies) to make better food choices, even when challenges arise.
  • Respect, appreciate, and love themselves and their bodies no matter their current size.
  • Discover how to stand strong in the temptations-filled Junk-Foods Jungle.
  • Ditch a What-the-Hell Attitude and instead develop GoalPower Plus, which is far more effective than willpower.
  • Self-soothe with Bennett’s fun, science-based Hug-Hum-Rock Relief Process™.
  • Create three weeks’ worth of nutritious, delicious, blood-sugar-balanced recipes as part of the Bounce Back Diet developed by holistic chefs Lizette and Geoff Marx.

Ultimately, Bennett’s invaluable guide goes far beyond typical diet advice. This trailblazing book—which features entertaining cartoons from talented cartoonist Isabella Bannerman—helps readers shift their mindset from powerless to powerful and discover simple but powerful tools that will enable them to sustain a lifetime of wellness.

Robot combat just got a lot more interesting in Hangzhou, China.

Four Unitree G1 robots, each steered by a human operator, went head-to-head in a tournament called Unitree Iron Fist King: Awakening!

The event took place right next to Unitree’s massive new factory and drew a lively mix of tech fans and people just curious to see what all the buzz was about. This wasn’t only about showing off robotic strength; it gave everyone a front-row seat to how impressively robots can now move and react almost like humans.

How the Unitree robot combat tournament works

The competition was structured like a classic martial arts tournament. Each match consisted of three rounds, each lasting two minutes. Points were awarded for strikes: one for a hand hit, three for a leg strike. Knockdowns or failure to recover within eight seconds meant penalties, adding to the tension. The format kept things fast-paced and easy to follow.

Unitree G1 robot battles: Match highlights and knockouts

The opening match set the tone. “AI Strategist,” controlled by Lu Xin, faced “Silk Artisan,” piloted by Jiao Tianqi. AI Strategist wasted no time, landing precise blows and ultimately knocking out Silk Artisan in the third round.

Next up, “Armored Mulan” faced off against “Energy Guardian.” Energy Guardian scored a dramatic knockdown in the first round, and despite a late stumble from Armored Mulan, Energy Guardian secured the win.

The final bout saw AI Strategist return to the ring against Energy Guardian. In a display of skill and adaptability, AI Strategist delivered three consecutive knockouts, clinching the championship. According to Zhou Di, a robotics expert with the China Computer Federation, “The robots’ ability to predict opponents’ moves and adjust in real time is a leap forward.”

What makes the Unitree G1 robot so impressive?

Standing 4.3 feet tall and weighing 77 pounds, the Unitree G1 is built for agility. With 23 degrees of freedom and powerful knee joints, these robots can throw hooks and side kicks and recover quickly after a fall. They may look a bit clunky in action, but their movements are surprisingly fluid and engaging.

The G1 is designed with accessibility in mind. It’s more affordable than Unitree’s flagship H1 model, which stands nearly 6 feet tall and costs upwards of $90,000. The G1 can be folded up and carried by one person, and it can reach speeds of about 4.5 miles per hour. Its impressive moves, such as kip-ups and side flips, are made possible by the LAFAN1 motion capture dataset, which translates human movements into robotic actions.

D-Day veteran posthumously awarded Distinguished Service Cross

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The 81st anniversary of the famous U.S.-led D-Day invasion of Normandy, France, was recently commemorated.

Less well-known are the battles during the days and weeks that followed in Normandy, which helped secure the massive beachhead, so the allies could go on and defeat Nazi Germany in World II.

One of those clashes was at a bridge over a small river near the town of Sainte-Mère-Église. Paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division landed near there early on the morning of June 6, 1944.

They had to hold the position against Germans threatening American forces who came ashore at Utah beach, one of the main landing sites.

REPORTER’S NOTEBOOK: REMEMBERING COURAGE ON THE 81ST ANNIVERSARY OF D-DAY

One of those was Iowa-born 31-year-old U.S. Army Staff Sgt. William Owens. For three days, as his unit was cut down in combat from 45 to just 12 men, he bravely helped fight off the Germans.

He fired from three different machine gun positions, threw hand grenades, commanded bazooka teams and moved from foxhole to foxhole, coordinating action. The actions of him and his men eventually knocked out four German tanks, killed 275 German soldiers and stopped the Nazis dead in their tracks. It was hailed by historians as a key battle of the Normandy invasion.

On a recent day alongside the river in the now green and peaceful countryside, after years of research and lobbying at the Pentagon and in Congress, Owens was recognized for his valor in a ceremony during which his honors were upgraded to Distinguished Service Cross, the second most important medal the Army can bestow.

Chris Donahue, the commanding general of the U.S. Army in Europe and Africa, told Fox News Owens’ actions were “incredibly important. What Owens did is the exact model that all of us try to live up to.”

ON 81ST ANNIVERSARY OF D-DAY, ONE US NAVY VETERAN’S SON IS THE FIRST AMERICAN POPE

Owens died at the age of 54 in 1967. His youngest daughter, British-raised Susan Marrow, said, “I don’t have words to describe how full my heart is and how much it means to me.”

His great-grandson, Harris Morales, was also proud to be there, saying, “without a doubt,” Owens was a brave guy. As for the new recognition of Owens, he added, “It means everything, and I still don’t believe it. It’s still not real for me yet.”

This comes at a time the world remains in turmoil from Ukraine to the Mideast and beyond. While 81 years seems like a long time ago, the heroism and inventiveness displayed by Owens then is still seen as relevant today.

“It is important,” Morales said. “I don’t think 81 years or any time is too long.”

Speaking from a military standpoint, Gen. Donahue noted, “We’re in the middle of a transformation, and we’re going to continue to do that so we live up to what they have done.”

As for lessons learned then, Owens’ daughter had a simple answer, saying, “Do unto others as you would have them do onto you.”

Sometimes, as in the case of Staff Sgt. William Owens, the dangerous behavior of “others”  means acting with the greatest and sometimes brutal gallantry.

Stylists report increase in hair thinning among weight loss drug users

0

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Side effects from GLP-1s can vary — but one lesser-known reported outcome of the popular weight-loss medications is hair loss or thinning.

Some hairstylists have confirmed an uptick in clients who complain about losing hair while on weight-loss journeys.

This includes Ashley DiMatteo, owner of Ashley Lauren Beauty Lounge in Westchester, New York, and Briana Delvecchio, a color specialist and hairdresser at DiMatteo’s salon. The two spoke with Fox News Digital in an on-camera interview (see the video at the top of the article).

IS OZEMPIC RUINING YOUR TEETH? WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT IMPACT ON DENTAL HEALTH

“There has definitely been an increase in clients coming in with hair loss,” DiMatteo said, noting that it ranges from gradual to fast, and from thinning out to completely losing hair.

Delvecchio agreed that she’s had “a few” clients come in reporting thinner and drier hair, which she suspects could be due to weight-loss drugs.

“It’s a mark of success in weight-loss management,” one expert said. “If the patient loses hair, that means they’ve lost weight rapidly.” (iStock)

The hairstylist, who herself takes a GLP-1 drug, said there may be a few reasons for hair changes — including new medications, vitamin deficiencies and weight loss, which can put stress on the body.

Becky Watt, an Ohio hairstylist with more than 20 years of experience, said she has also noticed clients losing hair while taking weight-loss drugs.

“I’ve seen thinning and shedding, and a lot of hair coming out very easily when being washed.”

“I’ve seen thinning and shedding, and a lot of hair coming out very easily when being washed,” she told Fox News Digital. “I have not noticed any bald spots.”

However, she has had some clients who are taking the medications without any hair loss, Watt added.

Medical factors

In a separate interview, Dr. Philip Rabito, an endocrinologist in New York City, explained that this reaction, called telogen effluvium, is a stress response to weight loss that affects the hair follicle.

OZEMPIC, OTHER SEMAGLUTIDES LINKED TO HAIR LOSS: HERE’S WHAT TO KNOW

The response is only temporary, he noted — the hair will fall out and then grow back once the weight loss stabilizes after a few months.

“It’s a response to severe physical stress — and weight loss is considered starvation,” Rabito said. “It is the rapidity of the weight loss that correlates with the amount of hair loss.”

Telogen effluvium is a stress response to weight loss that affects the hair follicle, experts say. (iStock)

Before weight-loss drugs, traditional bariatric surgery would lead to the loss of 70% of excess body weight in about six months, Rabito shared — which was often followed by hair loss within six to nine months.

“Your body doesn’t understand that this is healthy weight loss — your body thinks it’s starving,” he reiterated. “It happens to almost everyone, to some people more than others.”

THIS DAILY BEAUTY ROUTINE COULD BE RUINING YOUR HAIR, EXPERTS WARN

Those who lose weight more repetitively are at higher risk of hair loss, Rabito said, as well as those who have an underlying thyroid issue or micronutrient deficiency — typically in iron, B12 or vitamin D.

These vitamin deficiencies can worsen as weight loss occurs, so it’s important to work with a medical professional to balance these levels, according to the doctor.

“It seems that my clients who say they don’t have any appetite whatsoever are the ones losing the most hair,” one hairstylist observed. (iStock)

“From what I have learned from talking to these specific clients, it seems that the clients that are still eating don’t have the hair loss,” Watt observed.

“It seems that my clients who say they don’t have any appetite whatsoever are the ones losing the most hair,” she went on. “I believe that’s possibly due to lack of nutrients and protein, although I’m no doctor.”

Tips for managing hair loss

DiMatteo and Delvecchio agreed that they “always” advise their clients to see their doctor for a vitamin level check.

“And we will also then taper their hair routine,” DiMatteo said. “Basically, less is more during hair loss.”

“Check in with your weight-loss doctor or your endocrinologist prior to coming to us to rule out iron, vitamin D or anything that you’re lacking — we need to rule that out before we can help you,” Delvecchio said.

“Then we’ll tell you we need to work on your scalp health; we’ll give you shampoo and conditioner that may be a little gentler for your hair.”

“It’s a response to severe physical stress — and weight loss is considered starvation.”

“Scalp stimulation is huge,” DiMatteo added. “Rinsing with cool water helps as well. Try not to do harsher treatments in the sense of lightening or coloring — spread it out as much as possible.”

Rabito noted that losing hair is “part of the game” — he said he always warns his patients before starting their weight-loss journey that this will most likely occur and is a “mark of success.”

Hairstylists urge clients to check vitamin levels with their healthcare provider to help determine how best to treat their hair loss. (iStock)

“They’re going to lose hair,” he said. “It’s going to get worse before it gets better.”

“But as long as you get the vitamins controlled, get them adequately repleted — when the patient plateaus and the weight is stable for a month or two, the body doesn’t sense starvation anymore, and the body is less stressed, then the hair grows back better than ever.”

Watt said she often recommends a hair vitamin to her clients struggling with weight loss. “Diet also has a lot to do with it,” she noted.

She also recommends using a shampoo and conditioner that are formulated to resist thinning and hair loss, along with a bond-building hair product.

DiMatteo and Delvecchio assured those who are experiencing hair loss that regrowth does take time, and that there’s no need for excessive hair growth treatments.

Delvecchio added, “The hair loss is temporary. It’s a positive stress, and it’s worth it.”

Long-lost sanctuary to Greek god brings ancient rituals ‘back to life,’ archaeologists say

0

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Archaeologists recently made numerous “spectacular” discoveries at a long-forgotten temple to an Ancient Greek god, according to local officials.

The Department of Antiquities in Cyprus shared a Facebook post about the latest excavation on April 28. The site, the Sanctuary of Apollo at Frangissa, was first discovered in the 19th century before it was subsequently lost, the group said.

Apollo, the god of archery and the son of Zeus, was venerated both in Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. He was one of the 12 Olympian deities in Greek mythology, said to have lived upon Mount Olympus along with his father Zeus and sister Artemis.

ARCHAEOLOGISTS UNEARTH STRANGE HEAD DEPICTING ROMAN GOD BENEATH CATHOLIC BASILICA

A German archaeologist named Max Ohnefalsch-Richter found the sanctuary in 1885, which the Department of Antiquities described as “one of the most spectacular finds of his time.”

“[It was] a richly furnished rural sanctuary of Apollo,” said the post, which was translated from Greek to English. “It was furnished with a lavish abundance of votive statues numbering in the hundreds, some of which were of colossal dimensions.”

Massive statues and inscriptions dating back 2,700 years were recently discovered at an ancient sanctuary in Cyprus. (Cyprus Department of Antiquities)

But the 19th-century excavation was hastily done — and Ohnefalsch-Richter covered the sanctuary up with dirt to preserve it. It was soon forgotten.

“As the excavator completely covered the sanctuary, including the statue bases and walls, its location was eventually forgotten,” the Facebook post noted.

ARCHAEOLOGISTS UNCOVER WELL-PRESERVED TEMPLE, CULT CENTER DATING BACK TO ANCIENT EGYPT

German archaeologists began a new search for the site in 2021. It was eventually found, and the latest excavation of the site recently wrapped up.

This year, excavators found numerous statues of massive proportions, as well as votive statues that were found in the backfill area from 1885.

The sanctuary site was discovered in 1885 before it was reburied and forgotten about. (Cyprus Department of Antiquities)

“In the process, the walls of the dedication courtyard and over 100 statue bases, some of colossal size, were uncovered in large areas,” the department said.

“Apparently in 1885 [the votive statues] were not recognized as artifacts in the rush,” the post continued. “They fundamentally expand our knowledge of this sacred place.”

Archaeologists also recently found “completely new types of statues” that were previously unknown. They plan to restore them to their original appearance.

ARCHAEOLOGISTS UNCOVER GOLDEN ‘TONGUES’ AND ‘NAILS’ IN ANCIENT EGYPTIAN TOMB: ‘REMARKABLE AREA’

“The discovery of clearly larger-than-life feet, for example, means that the existence of colossal male limestone figures from archaic times can now be proven,” the press release added.

“Such larger-than-life figures were previously only known here in Frangissa made from terracotta, including the famous ‘Colossus of Tamassos’ in the Cyprus Museum exhibition.”

The release went on, “In addition, evidence of other previously unknown types of votive objects was also found, such as marbled glass beads or Egyptian amulets made of faience [tin-glazed pottery].”

Heads of large statues

The statues also contained inscriptions in particular languages that give historians an idea of how old they were – possibly as far back as 2,700 years ago.

“The discovery of two bases with inscriptions is spectacular,” the statement read. “One is inscribed with several local Cypro-Syllabic characters, while the other refers in Greek letters to the Ptolemies, the Hellenistic rulers of Egypt who also controlled Cyprus at the time.”

“The existence of colossal male limestone figures from archaic times can now be proven.”

“It shows that the sanctuary played an important role not only in archaic times (7th and 6th centuries B.C.), but also after the end of the Cypriot kingdoms.”

Archaeologists also believe that the site went through a significant expansion during the end of the Cypriot kingdoms, which can be observed in the architecture.

“During this time, a large peristyle courtyard was built next to the votive offering room, which was probably used for banquets.”

The department noted that the latest excavations “open up the possibility of exploring the architecture of the sanctuary, which was only inadequately documented by Ohnefalsch-Richte.”

The statement also said that “apparently” the “court had several phases of construction and utilization.”

“The further investigation of the preserved remains thus promises to provide important, far-reaching insights that will bring back to life the ritual behavior of past times and allow them to be seen in their original spatial setting.”

Vatican to canonize first millennial saint Carlo Acutis in September

0

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The Vatican has announced that the first millennial saint will be canonized in September.

Pope Leo XIV made an announcement during a meeting with cardinals that Carlo Acutis will be inscribed into the Book of Saints on September 7.

Acutis died at the age of 15 in Northern Italy after a short bout with leukemia in 2006, according to the Associated Press.

Before Pope Francis’s death on April 21, Acutis was set to be canonized on April 27 during the Vatican’s Jubilee of Teenagers.

The fifteen-year-old Carlo Acutis member of the Millennial generation who died on 12 October 2006 from M3 fulminant leukemia, is considered a “computer geek” on account of his passion and skill with computers and the internet. Acutis applied himself to creating a website dedicated to cataloguing each reported Eucharistic miracle in the world.  (Vatican Pool/Getty Images)

During his life, Acutis spent most of his time like any normal teenager would, while also giving time back to both the church and the community.

According to the Associated Press, Acutis taught Catholicism at a local church and volunteered to help the homeless.

Acutis also used his computer coding skills to create a website highlighting more than 100 eucharistic miracles recognized by the church.

EXCLUSIVE: CARLO ACUTIS’ MOM DESCRIBES TRANSFORMATION FROM BEING NON-RELIGIOUS TO MOTHER OF A SAINT

The first intercession by Acutis came from his own mother, Antonia, who told Fox News that it came four years after his death.

“When Carlo died, I was 39 years old, and then I started to try to have other children. I said, ‘I’m still young, maybe I can try, no?’ [But] the children didn’t arrive. Then I had started on my practice to adopt a child, but in Italy, it’s very difficult… I had lost all my hopes to have children by myself,” she explained. “Once I dreamed about Carlo, he told me, ‘listen, you will become, again, a mother. Don’t worry.’ And, one month after, I became pregnant.”

According to the National Catholic Register, the Vatican has recognized a second miracle by intercession on May 23, 2024.

The miracle involved a 21-year-old Costa Rican woman named Valeria Valverde.

Airline travelers need to know how hackers are using airport USB ports to steal info

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Flight passengers need to know about a new way hackers can access personal information.

In a public statement posted to Facebook, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) warned that just simply plugging your phone into USB ports for a charge while sitting in the airport can be a cybersecurity risk. (See the video at the top of this article.)

“In this technology age, cybersecurity has never been more important,” TSA wrote in the post.

AIRLINE PASSENGER SHOCKED WHEN AGENT REJECTS CHECKED BAG FOR ‘BIZARRE’ REASON

“Hackers can install malware at USB ports (we’ve been told that’s called ‘juice/port jacking’).”

It continued, “So, when you’re at an airport, do not plug your phone directly into a USB port.”

The agency instead suggested bringing a TSA-compliant power brick or battery pack to charge your devices.

TSA also reminded travelers not to use free public Wi-Fi, especially when planning to make online purchases.

“Do not ever enter any sensitive info while using unsecure Wi-Fi,” the agency warned.

In an appearance on “Fox & Friends” earlier this week, Kurt “CyberGuy” Knutsson revealed that the issue with USB “juice jacking” in airports has grown.

“Criminals tamper with the popular USB charging ports that are located throughout the terminal when you’re at the airport,” a cyber expert said.  (iStock)

“This is not new in terms of how they’re doing this,” Knutsson said.

“Criminals tamper with the popular USB charging ports that are located throughout the terminal when you’re at the airport, especially in the gate areas,” he said.

“What they do is – you plug your phone in, and they’ve got something in front of it that then installs malware on your phone while it’s charging. [And] you’ve got no idea.”

Underwater archaeologists may have discovered a long-lost 18th-century treasure ship that vanished over two centuries ago.

Marine expert Edmond O’Byrne told Pen News that his team found what is believed to be the Recovery, a British ship that was lost off the coast of Wexford, Ireland, in 1787. (See the video at the top of this article.)

The ship carried various treasures, and its cargo included a large quantity of marble and bronze. James Caulfeild, 1st Earl of Charlemont, collected the valuable materials during a tour of Europe.

The ship also carried rare art and natural curiosities owned by John La Touche, one of the wealthiest Irish bankers of his time.

But the ship met its end when it sank 85 miles south of Dublin, its intended destination. The vessel had recently stopped in London after beginning its journey in Italy.

Six people died in the wreck, including the ship’s captain and two of his sons

The ship was largely forgotten about before researchers caught wind of its likely remains.

During a recent interview with Pen News, O’Byrne said that, one day, his side-scan sonar “picked up an unusual object on the seabed.”

“The ship was at the mercy of the sea.”

He told the agency, “At first I thought it was a torpedo, because the image would be slightly distorted on the side-scan sonar.”

But the shipwreck revealed its age when his crew spotted a copper sheath on the vessel. In the 18th century, copper was used by the Royal Navy to protect wooden ships from barnacles and shipworms.

“When we went [underwater], it turned out to be a 20-foot-long rudder covered in copper sheet,” O’Byrne recalled. “Now that really identified her.”

He added, “In 1773, when she was built in Chester, the Recovery was one of about 200 ships out of the British merchant fleet of about 10,000 that had their hulls covered in copper sheathing.”

“Any wrecks that we have a record of weren’t copper sheathed.”

Using a drone, researchers also spotted a piece of timber coming out of a sandbank, which O’Byrne said was “definitely from a ship.”

“It could have been any bit of timber but when I told the pilot to drive closer, I could see that there was a timber nail hole in that plank,” he said.

“I told one of the boys to go down and take that up, and when he did, there was a two-foot by one-foot copper sheath nailed to the timber.”

The team also uncovered an anchor, timber fittings and artifacts including a teapot and inkwells.

Some of the findings offer a glimpse into how the ship went down: For example, the rudder was found around 800 feet away from the shipwreck.

“We reckon when she came around Carnsore Point, she came into shallower water, and pulled the rudder and part of the stern off,” O’Byrne described.

“And then the ship was at the mercy of the sea.”

The rudder was also covered in copper. It may be the only 18th-century copper-covered rudder that’s ever been found.

“We’ve searched and, so far, nobody can tell us that there is a copper-covered rudder in existence from that time anywhere,” O’Byrne added.

“It could be the only one of its time.”

The true value of the cargo is unknown, though La Touche’s possessions have fetched vast sums of money in the past. One sculpture that he commissioned sold for £520,000 in 1997, which equals roughly $1 million U.S. dollars today.

O’Byrne also believes that, with the shipwreck sitting 65 feet below the service, the cargo may still be in good condition.

“If they had to journey some distance on land to get to the port and then be loaded and then unloaded, they would have to be packed very, very well,” he observed.

“So there is a chance that something would survive.”

For now, the ship is going to remain undisturbed while O’Byrne’s team monitors it to see if any shifting sands reveal its treasures.

1. Don’t overshare: Even with AI tools like ChatGPT

AI chatbots like ChatGPT are useful, but they’re not private journals. The platform owners may have privacy policies and use the latest security measures, but that doesn’t mean you should let your guard down. When using these tools, refrain from sharing any personal information, such as your name, address, birthdate, passwords, financial details or sensitive conversations. Remember that AI systems store and process your inputs, and despite security promises, data breaches can occur.

SCAMMERS CAN EXPLOIT YOUR DATA FROM JUST 1 CHATGPT SEARCH

Tip: Treat all online forms of AI interaction like public forums. Keep your examples generic and use caution with anything that could identify you.

If you’re going to input your personal information while using these AI tools, ensure there is an option to prevent them from sharing it. On ChatGPT, for instance, do the following:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Click Data controls.
  • Tap Improve the model for everyone.

Why it matters: AI tools may seem personal, but they’re not secure vaults. Guarding what you share helps prevent misuse, identity theft or data leaks from breaches.

2. Use alias email addresses

Your email is often the key to your online identity and a common target for spam. By creating disposable email aliases that forward messages to your main inbox, you can keep your real address hidden from websites and services. These unique aliases act as shields, so if one starts getting spammed or is involved in a data breach, you can simply deactivate it without affecting your main email account.

My top recommendation to avoid being inundated with spam emails is to use an alias email address. An alias email address is an additional email address that can be used to receive emails in the same mailbox as the primary email address. It acts as a forwarding address, directing emails to the primary email address.

In addition to creating throwaway email accounts for online sign-ups and other circumstances where you would not want to disclose your primary email address, alias email addresses are helpful for handling and organizing incoming communications.

Sometimes, it’s best to create various email aliases so that you don’t have to worry about getting tons of spam mail or having your information taken in a data breach. An alias email address is a great way for you to stop receiving constant spam mail by simply deleting the email alias address. See my review of the best secure and private email services here.

Why it matters: You stay anonymous, avoid data leaks and never have to change your main email address again.

3. Take advantage of Facebook’s privacy checkup

Meta frequently updates its privacy settings, so it’s best to check regularly to see how you can improve your privacy. Use Facebook’s Privacy Checkup tool to review and adjust crucial settings, including post visibility, app permissions, search visibility and friend-request settings. This comprehensive tool helps ensure your profile remains as private as you want it to be. You can find the tool by following these steps:

  • Log in to your Facebook app on your phone.
  • Then click the menu icon in the bottom right.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Click Privacy Checkup.

Once you open the Privacy Checkup, you’ll be guided through several key areas to customize your privacy preferences and better control your information.

  • Who can see what you share: Adjust who can view your posts, photos and profile details to limit access to only people you trust.
  • How people can find you on Facebook: Manage who can send you friend requests, look you up using your email or phone number, and decide whether your profile appears in search engines.
  • Your data settings on Facebook: Review which apps and websites have access to your Facebook data and remove any you no longer use or trust.
  • How to keep your account secure: Set up two-factor authentication, update your password and monitor login alerts to protect your account from unauthorized access.
  • Your ad preferences on Facebook: Control how Facebook uses your activity to show you personalized ads and opt out of categories that feel too intrusive.

Quick tip: Set a reminder to run a privacy checkup every few months, especially after major Facebook updates. This way, you’ll always be in control of your information.

Why it matters: Social media platforms thrive on your personal data. Adjusting your settings regularly puts you back in control of what others and Facebook can see and use.

4. Scrub yourself off the internet automatically

Your name, phone number and home address may already be listed on people-search sites like Spokeo, Whitepages and BeenVerified. These data brokers collect and sell your personal information without you even knowing it. Fortunately, personal data removal services are available to protect your privacy. They automatically send legal removal requests to hundreds of data brokers. They also go above and beyond by continuously monitoring them in case these third parties happen to get your information again.

While no service can guarantee the complete removal of your data from the internet, a data removal service is really a smart choice. They aren’t cheap and neither is your privacy. These services do all the work for you by actively monitoring and systematically erasing your personal information from hundreds of websites. It’s what gives me peace of mind and has proven to be the most effective way to erase your personal data from the internet. By limiting the information available, you reduce the risk of scammers cross-referencing data from breaches with information they might find on the dark web, making it harder for them to target you. Check out my top picks for data removal services here.

Why it matters: The less personal information available about you online, the harder it is for scammers and identity thieves to target you and the more peace of mind you’ll have.

10 SIMPLE STEPS TO IMPROVE YOUR SMARTPHONE’S SECURITY AND PRIVACY

5. Use a privacy-focused messaging app

If you’re still using standard texting apps or platforms like Facebook Messenger, it’s time to upgrade to a more secure option. Apps like Signal and Session offer end-to-end encryption, no ads and no metadata tracking, meaning they can’t see who you’re talking to or what you’re saying. Both apps support disappearing messages, giving you more control over how long your conversations stick around.

Why it matters: Your messages stay private and can’t be accessed by hackers, advertisers or the app developers themselves.

6. Stop Google from tracking your every move

Google collects a massive amount of data from your searches, YouTube views, Gmail activity and location history, all of which fuels targeted advertising. You can stop much of this tracking by turning off Ad Personalization and deleting your activity history. Here’s what to do:

  • Go to Google’s My Ad Center.
  • Find the Ad Personalization section.
  • Toggle the switch to turn off ad personalization. This stops Google from using your activity to tailor ads.

Manage activity history

  • In My Ad Center or via your Google Account, go to Data & Privacy.
  • Under History Settings, review and pause or delete: Web & App Activity, YouTube History and Location History (if applicable).

Delete existing activity data

  • Select Manage all Web & App ActivityManage all YouTube History, etc.
  • Delete past activity by choosing a time range (e.g., “All time”) and confirming deletion for each category.

Opt out of third-party ad personalization

  • Scroll to Ad settings and look for third-party ad personalization options.
  • Opt out of partner sites’ ad personalization if available.
  • If you have multiple Google accounts, repeat these steps for each account.

Why it matters: Cutting down on ad tracking reduces how much of your online behavior is used to build a profile on you, often without your knowledge.

7. Turn off location tracking on your smartphone

Apps don’t need to know your every move. Disabling or limiting location tracking is one of the simplest ways to protect your physical privacy. Here’s what to do:

iPhone:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap Privacy & Security.
  • Click Location Services.
  • Scroll down and tap the app you want to manage.
  • Choose your preferred setting: Never to block location access completely; Ask Next Time Or When I Share to allow location only with your permission; While Using the App to allow location only when the app is open.

For apps like Maps, toggle Precise Location off to prevent pinpoint tracking.

To disable location tracking entirely, toggle Location Services off at the top of the Location Services page (this will stop all apps from using your location).

Android:

Settings may vary depending on your Android phone’s manufacturer.

  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap Location.
  • Tap App permissions or App location permissions.
  • You will see a list of apps grouped by their location access: Allowed all the timeAllowed only while in useAsk every time; Not allowed.
  • Tap any app to change its location permission. Choose from: Allow all the time; Allow only while using the app; Ask every time; Don’t allow.

For apps that have location access, you can also turn Precise location on or off if you want to limit accuracy. Repeat for each app you want to manage.

Tip: If you want to stop all apps from accessing your location, you can turn off Location at the top of the Location settings page.

Why it matters: Prevents apps, advertisers and even your OS from building a detailed map of your daily routines.

8. Change the default admin password on your router

Most routers ship with default admin usernames and passwords like “admin” or “1234,” and these are publicly available online. Hackers know this and often scan networks looking for unprotected routers. Here’s what to do:

  • Log in to your router’s settings via its IP address (often 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
  • Change the admin username and password to something strong and unique.
  • Consider using a password manager to generate and store complex passwords. Get more details about my best expert-reviewed password managers of 2025 here.

Why it matters: Prevents intruders from hijacking your home network and spying on your devices.

9. Enable WPA3 encryption on your Wi-Fi router

WPA3 is the newest wireless encryption protocol and offers much stronger protection than WPA2. If your router supports WPA3, enabling it is a no-brainer. How to check:

  • Log into your router settings and look under Wireless Security.
  • If WPA3 is available, enable it.
  • If not, consider upgrading to a newer, security-focused router. Check out our top routers for best security 2025.

Why it matters: Stronger encryption means hackers can’t easily intercept or crack your Wi-Fi traffic.

10. Set up a guest network for visitors and smart devices

Your friends don’t need access to your entire home network and neither do your smart lights and doorbells. Creating a guest network adds a safety barrier between your personal devices and less trustworthy ones. Steps to take:

  • Log into your router settings.
  • Create a separate guest network with its own password.
  • Connect smart devices, TVs and guests to this network only.
  • Keep your main network just for personal computers and phones.

Why it matters: Even if a smart device gets compromised, the attacker won’t have access to your main network or sensitive devices.

11. Use a secure, private browser for sensitive browsing

Not all browsers treat your privacy equally. Switching to a browser designed for privacy like Brave, Firefox or DuckDuckGo’s browser can drastically cut down on the amount of data collected about you while you browse. Also, use incognito/private mode for sensitive searches.

Why it matters: Reduces digital fingerprints and helps stop advertisers and data brokers from building a profile on you based on your browsing behavior.
