White House faces conservative backlash over Vanity Fair Susie Wiles profile

The White House is taking heat from conservatives after Vanity Fair published its bombshell profile of White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, which has dominated the news cycle.

Vanity Fair writer Chris Whipple penned a two-part story Tuesday based on a whopping 11 interviews over the past year with Wiles, one of President Donald Trump‘s top aides who made extraordinary comments about her boss and members of his administration.

Wiles bashed the profile, calling it a “disingenuously framed hit piece.”

“Significant context was disregarded and much of what I, and others, said about the team and the President was left out of the story,” Wiles wrote on X. “I assume, after reading it, that this was done to paint an overwhelmingly chaotic and negative narrative about the President and our team.”

But many of Trump’s own supporters in conservative media suggest the White House is culpable for granting such access to a liberal publication like Vanity Fair.

“Genuinely sick to death of people on the right who seek the approval of left-wing media. Or even play with them for a minute. I can’t take it. It’s the saddest fetish,” The Federalist editor-in-chief Mollie Hemingway reacted.

TRUMP ALLIES REJECT CNN CHYRON IN REAL TIME, SAY WHITE HOUSE NOT ‘REELING’ FROM SUSIE WILES INTERVIEW

“I don’t know why Republicans continue to give privileged access to mainstream media or center-left publications determined to destroy them,” California Post opinion editor Joel Pollack similarly wrote. “Journalists are not your friends, especially from Democrat agenda-driven outlets like the @nytimes and @VanityFair.”

Conservative radio host Dana Loesch echoed that sentiment, saying on X, “People need to realize that the legacy press isn’t your friend. There is no amount of inviting them to the WH and being nice to them that will make them write fair and kind things about you.”

KAROLINE LEAVITT DEFENDS SUSIE WILES, CLAIMS VANITY FAIR INTERVIEWER WAS DISINGENUOUS, OMITTED STATEMENTS

“Some day we will have a Republican Party that understands it’s never in their interest to talk to outlets such as Vanity Fair. Today is not that day,” RealClearInvestigations senior writer Mark Hemingway posted.

New York Post columnist Karol Markowicz put a spotlight on the photo shoot the White House granted Vanity Fair of Trump’s inner circle. Markowicz shared a published photo of White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

“Don’t do interviews with outlets like Vanity Fair. They use photos like this. They are not your friend,” Markowicz reacted to an extreme close-up of Leavitt’s face.

Outkick founder Clay Travis shared his piece of advice to Republicans: only do live interviews.

“Legacy media will always take you out of context and attack you if you give them a chance to do so. Only do live — or tape to live — and let public see everything you say,” Travis wrote.

He continued, “Your time and your words are a valuable commodity. Why would you give them to someone for free and let them choose how to present you based on using a tiny percentage of what you say to them. Why give that power to anyone?”

Leavitt lashed out at the Vanity Fair story during an appearance on “America Reports.”

“This was unfortunately another attempt at fake news by a reporter who is acting disingenuously and really did take the chief’s words out of context,” Leavitt said. “But most importantly, the bias of omission was ever present throughout this story.”

“The reporter omitted all the positive things that Susie and our team said about the president and the inner workings of the White House. And as Susie said today, it’s deeply unfortunate that happened,” she added.

Fox News Digital asked the White House whether it regretted granting the interview with Vanity Fair and if it had a response to its conservative critics. The White House cited the comments from Wiles and Leavitt and did not comment further.

Wiles made several comments that raised eyebrows, like saying Trump had an “alcoholic’s personality,” that Vice President JD Vance had been a “conspiracy theorist for a decade” and that Attorney General Pam Bondi “completely whiffed” in her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files.

A wave of Trump administration officials, including those Wiles commented about to Vanity Fair, rushed to social media and rallied behind her.

Vance joked on Tuesday, “If any of us have learned a lesson from that Vanity Fair article, I hope that the lesson is we should be giving fewer interviews to mainstream media outlets.”

Medieval weapons linked to Poland’s first rulers discovered in lake

Archaeologists recently retrieved early medieval weapons from a lake in Poland — relics believed to be connected to the country’s first rulers.

The Museum of the First Piasts at Lednica announced the discovery in a Facebook post on Nov. 12. The underwater excavation took place at Lake Lednica, in west-central Poland, some 150 miles west of Warsaw.

The lake surrounds Ostrów Lednicki, an island that served as a massive royal stronghold in the late 10th century.

LOST ROYAL PALACE DESTROYED IN BLOODY INVASION RESURFACES IN RIVER, ARCHAEOLOGISTS SAY

Over the years, excavators have found around 280 artifacts in the lake, including 145 axes, 64 spearheads and 8 swords — and, most recently, four spears.

Researchers from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, in collaboration with the Museum of the First Piasts at Lednica, found the spears.

The weapons date back to the time of Mieszko I and Bolesław the Brave, two legendary figures in the formation of medieval Poland.

Speaking to Fox News Digital, museum director Andrzej Kowalczyk said Lake Lednica has “surpris[ed] scientists for decades” — and that the weapons add to the site’s enduring mystery.

“Decorated socketed spearheads are exceptional examples of early medieval weaponry in Northern and Eastern Europe,” he said.

“Three similar examples were found in the 1990s in the waters of Lake Lednica. However, no finds so richly adorned — with a socket made entirely of colored metal alloys — had been discovered until now.”

The elaborate decorations on the weapons, as well as the precious metals they were made from, suggest “high-born warrior[s]” could have used them, Kowalczyk said.

Similar spears were found in the 1990s, but none as richly adorned as those discovered now, said experts.  (M. Popek, Muzeum Pierwszych Piastów na Lednicy via Facebook)

The artifacts “add new elements to the largest collection of early medieval weaponry in Europe found at a single archaeological site,” he added.

The most exciting find, Kowalczyk said, was the “princely spear” that was exceptionally well-preserved.

“The steel blade, or leaf, is set in an intricately ornamented socket, which still contains a fragment of the shaft,” he said.

“Specialized studies have shown that much of its surface is covered with gold, silver and bronze, as well as other metal alloys. … There are also interlace designs whose sharp ends resemble claws or beaks, complemented by rows of tiny dots forming the background of the pattern.”

Excavators have retrieved hundreds of weapons from the lake, including 145 axes and more than 60 spearheads. (M. Trzciński, Muzeum Pierwszych Piastów na Lednicy via Facebook)

As to why the weapons were left in the lake, experts say there are two main hypotheses.

In the first theory, archaeologists think the weapons fell in the lake during battles over the Lednica stronghold, likely during the 1030s, when Czech Duke Bretislaus invaded Poland.

On the other hand, the weapons may have been ritually placed in the water as offerings, the museum said — even as Christianization was underway.

“Such practices are known from earlier periods and many places across Europe,” said Kowalczyk.

“Water was perceived as a gateway to the world of the dead, and throwing valuable objects into it was an act of deep symbolic meaning,” said a museum director.  (M Trzciński, Muzeum Pierwszych Piastów na Lednicy via Facebook)

“Water was perceived as a gateway to the world of the dead, and throwing valuable objects into it was an act of deep symbolic meaning.”

Kowalczyk emphasized the special significance that Ostrów Lednicki holds in Polish history — including being the site where Mieszko I was likely baptized.

“It should be emphasized that it was on Ostrów Lednicki that the oldest Christian liturgical objects ever found in Poland were discovered — including a staurotheke (a reliquary of the True Cross), a liturgical comb made of ivory, a three-armed iron censer with holes for suspension and bone plaques from a reliquary chest,” he said.

Pro-life leader celebrates Vatican Nativity dedicated to 25K babies who weren’t aborted

FIRST ON FOX: The leader of an international pro-life organization lauded the Nativity scene set up by the Vatican that highlighted the more than 25,000 babies who were not aborted this year thanks to the group’s outreach initiatives.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, 40 Days for Life CEO and founder Shawn Carney said the Vatican reached out to his organization about creating a Nativity scene representing the babies he says were saved by the group’s pro-life activism, which includes prayer and vigils outside abortion clinics.

“It’s really beautiful,” Carney said.

“The artist made the straw in the manger where Baby Jesus is and Mary, and Joseph,” he continued. “The straw is made up of 25,000 ribbons. Each ribbon represents a baby boy or baby girl that was saved from abortion during a 40 Days for Life campaign.”

POPE LEO XIV CONDEMNS ‘ANTI-SEMITIC VIOLENCE’ AFTER MASSACRE IN SYDNEY: ‘WE MUST ELIMINATE HATRED’

Crafted by Costa Rican artist Paula Sáenz Soto and donated by the Central American country, it features a pregnant Virgin Mary, Joseph and  thousands of colored ribbons dedicated to the babies who were not aborted.

Pope Leo XIV said at a recent audience with the donors of the Vatican’s Christmas decorations that a sign of life was reflected in the Nativity scene in the Vatican’s audience hall, which he described as a sign of “faith and hope.”

Each of the ribbons that decorate the scene “represent a life saved from abortion thanks to the prayer and support provided by Catholic organizations to many mothers in need,” said the pontiff, who personally blessed the display.

Leo also thanked the artist for the message affirming that “life is protected from conception.”

Carney said the Nativity was “inspiring” and “beautiful news,” particularly amid a series of recent bad news in the U.S. and around the world.

“It’s so inspiring, and frankly, we’ve had a lot of bad news lately in America and around the world, and this display represents good news,” he told Fox News Digital.

Pope Leo blesses a pro-life Nativity

“It represents babies that have been saved from abortion, and the artist who is a participant in 40 Days for Life who is from Costa Rica, did a wonderful job. She did a fantastic job making this beautiful display that really shows the dedication of so many pro-life volunteers around the world who take time out in the hopes of saving a baby. And now those saved babies are represented in the most important place in the world, which is the Nativity, which is what we pin our hope to, that Jesus came through the womb, that he came through a family to save us from our sins,” he continued.

“So it’s beautiful news, it’s good news, and I think it’s news that’s being well received as we’ve had so much bad news the last few weeks,” Carney added.

Carney went on to explain that the Nativity is “at the heart of Catholicism and all Christians, and certainly at the heart of the pro-life movement.”

“This is why we do what we do,” he said. “Our Lord could have popped out of an acorn and saved us from our sins. He didn’t do that. God chose a family, a holy family, a 14-year-old virgin, to bring his son into the world through the womb, which is statistically now the most dangerous place in the world. He chose the womb, he chose a family, and the family is under attack. So this is a beautiful nativity display, but I think it speaks to the heart of every Christian that looks for hope in the world, that looks for hope for us to overcome our own sins, and certainly hope that we can end the tragedy and the barbaric nature of abortion in our world. America is leading the way through that.” “We just had a historic year for the pro-life movement in 2025, and I think 2026 is going to be even better,” he added. “This display certainly inspires so much hope and confidence that if we pray, if we fast, if we’re faithful and we get to work, we can end abortion anywhere.”

Carney also stressed that the Nativity of a pregnant Mary with an unborn Jesus “speaks to the scientific reality of the unborn child and the Biblical reality that Our Lord came through the womb.”

Ribbons representing lives saved from abortion

“The Nativity is one of the most depicted scenes in the history of the world, and it represents that great meeting between Heaven and earth, Christ coming into the world through a child nine months after the Annunciation,” he said. “So it’s absolutely beautiful. It puts emphasis on how we treat our unborn children with 72 million abortions around the world every year. It is by far the greatest moral crisis of our time, and we have to respond to that. We have to respond with great hope, and you don’t find a greater hope than Jesus coming into the world and being with us on Christmas Day.”

The pro-life leader also stated that the pope “is going to be a stronger voice than most people think” on the issue of abortion.

“I think he’s righting the ship,” Carney said. “I think he’s speaking with a little bit more clarity than what we saw from Pope Francis. Pope Leo has been very supportive of the pro-life movement. He’s certainly been very supportive of 40 Days for Life with this beautiful Nativity at the Vatican, so I’m very encouraged.”

As tensions increase between Thailand and Cambodia, the United States government is warning Americans about traveling to the border area of the two countries.

The U.S. Embassy in Thailand issued a security alert to American tourists Dec. 16, warning of an “escalation of armed conflict” at the popular Asian destination.

“U.S. citizens should avoid all travel within 50 kilometers [about 31 miles] of the Thailand-Cambodia border, due to active hostilities and the unpredictable security situation,” the alert said.

Conditions on both sides “remain volatile,” it added, and it is an “unpredictable security situation.”

Tourists already in the area are advised to follow instructions from Thai security services because the U.S. government has “limited ability to provide emergency services.”

Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have persisted despite an October ceasefire negotiated by President Donald Trump, which brought an end to five days of fighting in July. That fighting led to the death of dozens of soldiers and civilians.

The agreement showed signs of strain last month when several Thai soldiers were injured by land mines in contested areas, leading the Thai government to announce it would suspend implementation of parts of the deal.

Travelers increasingly seek airport shower facilities for long-haul comfort

Once a rare luxury reserved only for premium international travelers, the ability to shower at airports is gaining new attention as fliers look for ways to refresh during long-haul trips and extended layovers — especially amid the MAHA push for healthier living in virtually any venue.

Travelers are even sharing TikTok videos detailing the amenities offered by a variety of airports, including private stalls and toiletries.

Others are asking why airports haven’t widely adopted more wellness-focused amenities such as publicly accessible shower suites or dedicated gyms.

Frequent fliers on Reddit have also compared their experiences using lounge showers — noting that access can vary widely depending on airline status and airport.

The Trump administration recently spotlighted a $1 billion initiative for family-friendly improvements, unveiled during a pull-up event at Reagan National Airport outside Washington, D.C.

Frequent fliers say the ability to shower between flights can make a dramatic difference on long travel days, especially after overnight routes or lengthy international connections.

Peter Shankman, a New York–based corporate keynote speaker and author, said he logs more than 250,000 miles a year.

He said travelers need to know a few things before using an airport shower for the first time.

Some of the best airport shower facilities are found overseas, he said, where long flights and connections make it essential for travelers to reset between journeys.

“You’ve been on a plane all night, you’re greasy, you’re gross,” said Shankman. “To get a shower and let the hot water wash all the ‘plane’ off you makes a world of difference.”

Several major U.S. airport lounges, including United Polaris, American Flagship and Delta Sky Club locations, offer shower suites for travelers, according to the companies’ websites.

Programs such as Priority Pass, an independent membership initiative, provide access to lounges with shower facilities at airports around the world.

Access varies by airport and airline — but lounge membership or elite status typically offers the most reliable option.

Some lounges sell day passes, and several international airports host independent shower or spa facilities that any traveler can pay to use.

Shankman said the process is usually straightforward. After checking into the lounge, travelers go to the shower desk, where staff assign them a room or place them on a waiting list.

Many lounges now notify passengers through an app or buzzer when a shower suite is ready.

Most facilities provide basic toiletries such as shampoo, soap and towels — and Shankman noted that showers are generally cleaned after each use.

Any traveler planning to use an airport shower should head straight to the lounge after landing, as wait times can spike when several international flights arrive at once, he said.

Pelosi casts doubts on third Trump impeachment vote if Dems retake House

0

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., suggested that there was currently not enough cause to impeach President Donald Trump for a third time.

During an interview with USA Today’s Susan Page released on Saturday, Pelosi was asked whether the Democratic Party should consider impeaching Trump again if they retake the House in 2026.

“The person most responsible for impeaching President Trump when I was speaker was President Trump,” Pelosi began. “He gave us no choice. He crossed the line in his telephone call with President Zelenskyy as one manifestation of his disrespect for the Constitution, his jeopardizing the sanctity of our own elections in our country, and the rest.”

NANCY PELOSI THINKS A WOMAN WILL BE ELECTED PRESIDENT, BUT ‘MAYBE NOT’ IN HER LIFETIME

She continued, “And then, of course, January 6th. He can try to change the narrative all he wants, but we will be there to make sure the public knows the truth about January 6th. It was an insurrection incited by the President of the United States.”

Pelosi continued criticizing the Trump administration until Page asked if she could clarify whether she believed impeachment should be part of the party’s agenda.

“If he crosses the border again,” Pelosi answered. “But that’s not an incidental thing. You say, ‘We’re going to do that.’ No, there has to be cause. There has to be reason. We had review. This was a very serious, historic thing.”

She continued, “And our founders knew that there could be a rogue president, and that’s why they put impeachment in the Constitution. They didn’t know there’d be a rogue president at the same time a rogue Senate that didn’t have the courage to do the right thing. It was bipartisan in the Senate, but it wasn’t enough.”

A bill introduced in New Hampshire could ban smoking and vaping at one of the state’s most popular beaches and state parks.

Senate Bill 596 was introduced on Nov. 25 to ban smoking throughout Hampton Beach State Park — including its RV park.

The ban would begin Jan. 1, 2027.

While violators will not face fees, authorized officials are directed to stop individuals from smoking.

Debra Altschiller, a state senator, told Fox News Digital she filed the legislation at the request of a constituent.

“She had been enjoying a beach day with her child, and a group of people next to them were smoking — breathing in their secondhand smoke was horrible,” said Altschiller.

“She asked the group to please put out their cigarettes and vapes, and they essentially told her to ‘pound sand.’”
