Elon Musk wants people to submit their medical scans to Grok, his AI chatbot

0

Elon Musk is urging people to submit their medical scans to Grok for analysis, but doctors advise using caution when relying on artificial intelligence for health care insights.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO posted on X on Tuesday, encouraging his followers to submit X-rays, PET scans, MRIs or other medical images to the AI chatbot.

“This is still early stage, but it is already quite accurate and will become extremely good,” Musk wrote.

WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)?

The X owner also asked people to report back on “where Grok gets it right or needs work.”

Musk launched Grok, a product of his company xAI, in 2023.

The most recent version of the generative AI chatbot is described as a “frontier language model with state-of-the-art reasoning capabilities.”

‘Future of medicine’

Dr. Marc Siegel, clinical professor of medicine at NYU Langone Health and Fox News’ senior medical analyst, responded to the Musk post in an interview with Fox News Digital, calling AI the “future of medicine.”

“It will be a big factor in terms of patients who have access to their own data, and it will become a big part of outreach to underserved areas, where well-trained radiologists are not available,” Siegel said.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE NOT ALWAYS HELPFUL FOR REDUCING DOCTOR BURNOUT, STUDIES SUGGEST

Siegel said he believes we are reaching “the point of accuracy” where AI and machine learning can help to guide patient-centric health.

The doctor urged patients and doctors to embrace AI technology rather than fight it.

“We should work with it,” he said. “It is the automatic pilot of medicine.”

“Doctors still need to guide the way or be available remotely to oversee guidance.”

In terms of Musk’s request that people submit their scans, Siegel pointed out that AI needs data to improve.

“People sending in images will help greatly with development as AI perfects its responses based on machine learning,” he said.

“It will not replace doctors entirely, but will be a very useful partner,” Siegel said of generative AI in health care. (Getty Images)

Dr. Harvey Castro, a board-certified emergency medicine physician and national speaker on artificial intelligence based in Dallas, Texas, referred to Grok’s potential ability to read medical scans as “promising and complex.”

“As an ER physician, I’ve seen firsthand how crucial quick, accurate diagnostics are in life-threatening situations,” Castro told Fox News Digital.

“AI can be a powerful tool in augmenting medical expertise, potentially accelerating diagnosis and improving patient outcomes.”

Caution is essential, experts say

While Grok and other AI models show promise in interpreting medical scans, both experts agree that users should proceed with caution.

“Doctors still need to guide the way or be available remotely to oversee guidance,” Siegel said.

Patient privacy and data security are also essential, he noted.

“While Grok’s potential is exciting, any AI used in health care should complement human expertise, not replace it,” he told Fox News Digital.

“This technology holds transformative potential, but it must prioritize patient safety and trust above all.”

“Ethical oversight, transparency and validation of established medical standards are non-negotiable as we move into this new frontier,” Castro went on.

2024 hacker celebrity hot list

Cybersecurity firm McAfee has put together a handy list of the top 10 celebrities who have been frequent targets of malicious deepfake scams and risky search results. Topping the list is actor Scarlett Johansson, known for her roles in Marvel’s “Avengers” franchise and films like “Lucy” and “Lost in Translation.” Right behind her is media personality Kylie Jenner, famous for her beauty products. There are plenty of other big names on the list, so let’s dive in.

1) Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson’s name and likeness have been used without her permission in various advertisements and endorsements. Earlier this year, OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, released an AI model called GPT-4o, which featured a voice output that closely resembled the actor’s. However, Ms. Johansson never authorized the use of her voice in the AI model. After she hired legal counsel and sent formal letters to OpenAI, the company removed the voice.

Deepfake cybercrime is on the rise

Thanks to advancements in generative AI, even individuals without technical expertise can easily create fake personas of others. The lack of regulation in this area has paved the way for scams that can rob people of their hard-earned money. Alongside phishing scams and malware-laden links that exploit the popularity and reputation of celebrities to deceive their fans, these highly realistic video and audio clips can convincingly mimic a person’s likeness. This makes it increasingly difficult to discern whether the content is real or fake.

CYBER SCAMMERS USE AI TO MANIPULATE GOOGLE SEARCH RESULTS

5 ways you can avoid getting duped by deepfake scams

1) Verify sources: Always check the credibility of the source before trusting any content. Look for official accounts or reputable news outlets to confirm information, especially if it involves a celebrity or public figure.

2) Look for inconsistencies: Pay attention to details in videos or images. Deepfakes can have subtle inconsistencies, like unnatural facial movements, awkward lighting or mismatched audio. If something seems off, trust your instincts and investigate further.

3) Invest in strong antivirus software: Protecting your devices with reliable antivirus software is crucial in defending against deepfake scams and other cyber threats. These scams, including those that misuse celebrity images for fraudulent giveaways or unauthorized product endorsements, often rely on phishing emails, malicious websites and malware-laden links to trick users.

Protecting your devices with reliable antivirus software can be an effective way to guard against deepfake scams and other cyber threats. Strong antivirus programs often include features that detect malicious websites and suspicious downloads, alerting you to potential scams before you engage with them. Get my picks for the best 2024 antivirus protection winners for your Windows, Mac, Android and iOS devices.

4) Educate yourself: Stay informed about the latest deepfake technology and the common scams associated with it. Understanding how deepfakes are created can help you recognize potential scams more easily.

5) Use reverse image search: If you come across suspicious images or videos, use reverse image search tools (like Google Images) to see if the content has been altered or used in other misleading contexts.

Kurt’s key takeaway

AI is a useful technology, but it’s also extremely dangerous. Bad actors have successfully weaponized this tech to scam people, generating legitimate-looking phishing emails and messages that are nearly impossible to detect. Furthermore, because AI makes it all so easy and fast, cybercriminals can target people on an unprecedented scale. Companies developing these AI models need to implement safeguards to prevent the technology from being exploited, and governments should enforce these safeguards.

There are some obvious signs of a poor night’s sleep — fatigue, irritability and trouble focusing, to name a few — but it can also have some hidden effects.

In a new study led by University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), poor sleep was linked to faster brain aging in middle-aged adults.

While previous studies have focused on older adults, the average age of the 589 people in this study was 40 years old, according to a press release.

‘SLEEP DIVORCE’ ON VACATION: TRAVEL TREND HAS COUPLES ‘BREAKING UP’ AT BEDTIME

The participants completed two sleep questionnaires five years apart. After 15 years, they underwent brain scans.

In a new study led by University of California, San Francisco, poor sleep was linked to faster brain aging in middle-aged adults. (iStock)

“We calculated brain age using a machine learning approach, using MRI data to estimate the amount of brain shrinkage corresponding to a specific age,” study author Clémence Cavaillès, PhD, a researcher at UCSF, told Fox News Digital.

“We showed that poor sleep that persisted over five years — and specifically when it related to insomnia symptoms — was found to be highly relevant to brain aging.”

‘WHY DO I HAVE RESTLESS LEGS AT NIGHT?’: ASK A DOCTOR

When evaluating sleep quality, the researchers looked at six poor sleep characteristics: short sleep duration, bad sleep quality, difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep, early morning awakening and daytime sleepiness.

Man can't sleep

“We showed that poor sleep that persisted over five years — and specifically when it related to insomnia symptoms — was found to be highly relevant to brain aging,” said the lead study author. (iStock)

Middle-aged participants with two to three poor sleep characteristics had a brain age that was 1.6 years older than those with no more than one poor sleep characteristic, according to Cavaillès.

Those with more than three poor sleep characteristics exhibited a brain age of 2.6 years older.

“Poor sleep that persisted over five years — and specifically when it related to insomnia symptoms — was found to be highly relevant to brain aging.”

The findings were published in Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

“These findings are critical because they demonstrate that the link between sleep disturbances and brain health extends beyond older adulthood, suggesting that poor sleep in early midlife may already contribute to accelerated brain aging,” he said.

Woman at doctor

“If someone is facing persistent problems with sleep quality or insomnia symptoms, they should undergo further evaluation,” a doctor advised. (iStock)

Advanced brain aging is associated with cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease-related patterns, the researcher noted.

“Therefore, poor sleep may be an important target for early interventions aimed at preventing neurocognitive decline, even before the lesion’s accumulation begins.”

‘FOR BETTER SLEEP, HOW CAN I REDUCE NIGHTTIME BATHROOM TRIPS?’: ASK A DOCTOR

The researchers were surprised to find that there was not an association between sleep duration and accelerated brain aging, Cavaillès noted.

“Sleep duration in midlife may be influenced by numerous factors, such as work, stress, multitasking or menopause,” he told Fox News Digital.

Brain

Advanced brain aging is associated with cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease-related patterns. (iStock)

“Thus, it is also possible that its association with cognition is more complex during this critical period, and potentially more difficult to capture and/or less impactful.”

Overall, the study results suggest that the importance of sleep for brain health in midlife would be more closely tied to quality rather than quantity in midlife, the researcher added.

‘Integral relationship’

Dr. Jocelyn Y. Cheng, a New Jersey neurologist and spokesperson for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, was not involved in the study but weighed in on the findings.

“This study provides further support for the integral relationship between sleep and brain health,” she told Fox News Digital.

‘HOW MUCH SLEEP IS TOO MUCH?’: ASK A DOCTOR

“The findings highlight particular aspects of poor sleep — specifically early morning awakening and persistent difficulty with initiating sleep, which were associated with greater estimated age-related brain atrophy as measured by MRI.”

Sleep plays a role in clearing out beta-amyloid, the protein that accumulates in the brains of people who develop Alzheimer’s disease, Cheng noted.

When someone gets poor sleep, that clearance ability is reduced.

“Being readily identifiable, the onset of these symptoms may represent a key timepoint during which intervention could mitigate the development of disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease later in life,” Cheng added.

Potential limitations

The study did have some limitations, including the fact that it relied on people reporting their own sleep habits, which may not always be accurate, according to Cavaillès.

“Also, because this was an observational study, we can’t say for certain that poor sleep directly causes brain aging — only that there’s a strong connection between the two,” he added.

“This study provides further support for the integral relationship between sleep and brain health.”

Cheng agreed that causation cannot be determined from the study, and also noted that it did not investigate whether brain atrophy had an impact on cognition.

Despite these limitations, she said, “There are plausible roles that poor sleep may play in brain health.”

Improving sleep quality

Based on the findings, people can improve their quality of rest by adopting several good sleep hygiene practices, Cavaillès said.

“They can start by maintaining a consistent sleep schedule, going to bed and waking up at the same time every day,” he said.

Exercise before sleep

Regular exercise can help improve sleep quality, experts agree. (iStock)

“Creating an ideal sleep environment — keeping the bedroom dark, quiet and at a cool temperature — also helps.”

Regular exercise and exposure to natural sunlight can also improve sleep quality.

Cavaillès also suggests avoiding screens and blue light, as well as stimulants like caffeine and alcohol.

“Incorporating relaxation techniques before bed, such as deep breathing or meditation, can also help prepare the body for sleep,” the researcher added.

Woman sleeping

Healthy sleep is essential for a healthy brain, experts agree. “If someone is facing persistent problems with sleep quality or insomnia symptoms, they should undergo further evaluation,” a doctor advised. (iStock)

Cheng echoed that healthy sleep is essential for a healthy brain, hence the importance of maintaining good sleep habits.

“If someone is facing persistent problems with sleep quality or insomnia symptoms, they should undergo further evaluation,” she said.

“This may be indicative of an underlying disorder, such as obstructive sleep apnea, and intervention may improve both quality of life and overall health.”

Researchers came across a little house during excavation work in the ancient city of Pompeii, Italy.

The structure is named the “House of Phaedra” after the mythic queen of Athens. It has a well-preserved painting of her displayed on a wall, according to a Pompeii archaeological park press release.

While small in its size, the “House of Phaedra” is adorned with refined detailing, with scenes of nature and patterns found throughout the space.

WORLD’S SMALLEST INHABITED ISLAND FEATURES A SINGLE HOME AND TREE

Unlike other Pompeian homes, this building lacks an atrium, which is a central open-air space that collects rainwater, Reuters reported.

The home does have a courtyard with painted red walls. It includes a covered large tub.

Dr. Nicole Saphier shares 4 hidden signs of breast cancer

0

With one in every eight women diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lives, experts agree that early detection and treatment is key.

“One of the biggest goals when it comes to breast cancer detection is to try and discover those cancers before they cause any problems,” Dr. Nicole Saphier, Fox News medical contributor, told Fox News Digital during an on-camera conversation.

The most common symptom of breast cancer is a new lump or mass, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS).

AFTER A BREAST CANCER DIAGNOSIS, HERE ARE 10 IMPORTANT THINGS YOU SHOULD DO, EXPERTS SAY

“The most common is a palpable mass,” Saphier confirmed.

“People come in with a lump. Sometimes it can be something benign, like a cyst, but it can also be a cancer.”

Not all warning signs are obvious, however.

“It’s not just about feeling a lump,” Saphier said. “There are some other signs that breast cancer can present.”

1. Nipple discharge

Studies have shown that nipple discharge is a symptom for 3% to 9% of breast cancer patients.

In particular, discharge containing blood can be a warning sign, according to Saphier.

“Some women … see a little bit of blood in their bra,” she said. “This can be a sign of cancer cells in the duct.”

2. Itchy skin

Some women experience itching of the skin, Saphier said, whether it’s the skin of the breast or just the nipple itself.

“This could be an indicator of an inflammatory process inside the breast,” she warned.

3. Swollen lymph nodes

Another early sign of breast cancer is swelling or lumps in the lymph nodes, the doctor noted.

They may show up in the breast itself, in the armpit or in the axilla, the space under the shoulder joint where the arm connects to the shoulder.

“That can mean not only is there a cancer in the breast, but it has now traveled to the lymph nodes,” Saphier said.

4. Red or inflamed skin

This is one of the most common signs of inflammatory breast cancer, which is a “rare and aggressive type of invasive breast cancer in which cancer cells block lymph vessels in the skin,” according to ACS.

“This is a different cancer in the sense that it doesn’t present as a mass,” Saphier told Fox News Digital.

BREAST CANCER SIGNS, SYMPTOMS TO LOOK OUT FOR, PLUS WHEN TO SCHEDULE ROUTINE SCREENING

People sometimes get treated for weeks or even months for what they think is a skin condition or an allergic reaction when it’s actually an infection, the doctor said.

“Sometimes what’s manifesting in the skin is because of something a little bit more nefarious going on underneath,” she warned.

The main takeaway, Saphier said, is to pay attention to your body and take action if you notice any changes. (iStock)

Saphier said she often sees patients who have been on steroids or antibiotics, but have never had a biopsy of the skin.

“Until you do that biopsy … you won’t necessarily know that it’s an inflammatory cancer that’s causing these issues,” she said. “And unfortunately, this can lead to a later diagnosis.”

“You know your body better than anybody else,” she said.

“If there’s a change, you should always seek medical guidance and insist on imaging to make sure that there’s nothing going on inside.”

Biden, Harris silent on Marine veteran’s murder in Mexico by suspected cartel

0

Former President Donald Trump and running mate Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, met with the family of the U.S. Marine veteran who was killed along a Mexican highway by suspects believed to be cartel members earlier this month.

Nicholas Douglas Quets, a 31-year-old Marine veteran who worked for Pima County, Arizona, on water reclamation projects, was shot and killed along the Caborca-Altar Highway in northern Mexico on Oct. 19.

His family said Quets was driving with friends down to Rocky Point for a beach trip. The shooting happened approximately 30 miles south of the U.S.-Mexico border

The Sonora Attorney General’s Office said a vehicle pulled up alongside Quets’ pick-up truck and opened fire in a “direct attack,” according to KVOA. An armed group had tried to stop Quets’ truck at an illicit checkpoint and followed after them when they did not pull over, a Sonora official confirmed to Tucson.com.

Quets’ father and brother-in-law described to the Washington Examiner private meetings the family had with Trump and Vance last week while the Republican running mates were campaigning in Arizona.

“I did not know what to expect because he’s a TV star, billionaire, populist,” Quets’ father, retired Army Lt. Col. Warren Douglas Quets, told the Examiner. “He looked at me, looked at the picture of Nick. He had a tear in his eye, and said, ‘Tell me what happened.’ And he was actually angry as we told him the story…. He said, ‘Tell me what I can do for you and your family.'”

Quets’ father said the family has not heard from any elected officials in the Biden-Harris administration.

“A U.S. military veteran transiting Mexico was executed and four days into this and no official, outside of the consulate in Mexico, has made any effort to contact us or provide us with an update of what’s happening,” the elder Quets told the Examiner last week. “What we want is an investigation and prosecution within the United States. We want the U.S. to take over the prosecution.”

“If my case for my son is not worthy of the highest level of attention from the U.S. government, then what is?” he added. “How can this be that this Marine gets killed 30 minutes south of the border?”

“I haven’t heard from anybody, elected or appointed government officials, at all,” he added. “And I begged for that to the point where, yesterday, I wrote the consul and said, ‘Don’t worry about it anymore. I’m going to go ahead and contact [President Claudia Sheinbaum] in Mexico and ask for her help in getting the U.S. involved.'”

TRUMP APPEARED ON JOE ROGAN’S PODCAST FOR NEARLY THREE HOURS: HERE ARE THE TOP MOMENTS

“I have no doubt in my mind that the President of the United States was briefed on Saturday morning in his presidential brief that a United States Marine veteran was killed in Mexico. I have no doubt,” Quets’ brother-in-law and best friend, retired Air Force Capt. Philip Sweet, told the Examiner.

Fox News Digital reached out to the White House and Harris campaign for comment on Sunday but did not hear back.

Trump met with the Quets family and posed for a photograph with the slain veteran’s portrait in Tempe, Arizona, last week.

Vance, a fellow Marine veteran, met with the Quets family in Tucson before mentioning the veteran by name on stage.

“Over the next couple of weeks, we all need to work to apply pressure on the cartels who murdered this innocent, young Marine and try to put pressure on Kamala Harris to do something about it,” Vance told the crowd.

“Here is my solemn promise to you, while you’ve been ignored, by your own government in the last four days in the midst of this unbelievable tragedy,” Vance said. “I promise you, the cavalry is coming, and when Donald Trump is president, we’re going to kick the cartels’ a–es and we’re going to do it for you and for every person in this room.”

Quets’ father recalled the family’s private meeting with Vance beforehand, telling the Examiner, “[Vance] says, ‘You’re talking to me as JD. I want you to tell me exactly what I need to know, and I want you to tell me how I can help you. That’s what he said. So it was a really classy move, and it was sincere.”

“As an apolitical guy, you want the best for the country, which is what I’ve devoted my life to,” he added. “I left the meeting thinking I was ready to follow Vance any place.”

“My family feels more comfort in this horrible, horrific event that we’ve been dealing with,” Sweet told the Examiner. “To feel comfort from somebody that we’ve never met, but felt like he was a member of our family, and he cared about us, truly cared about us.”

Robert J. Antonellis Reveals New Evidence of Intentional Threats to National Unity in His New Book – “The Camelot Murders” 69

In his explosive new book, “The Camelot Murders – And the Crucifixion of Mary Jo”, author Robert J. Antonellis uncovers a chilling scheme to permanently alter the trajectory of America’s political and moral landscape.

Somerville, Massachusetts, October28, 2024,Author Robert J. Antonellis has sent shockwaves throughout the literary community with the release of his new explosive new book, The Camelot Murders – And the Crucifixion of Mary Jo. The author uncovers a chilling scheme to permanently alter the trajectory of America’s political and moral landscape.

This meticulously researched work reveals deep-seated efforts to dismantle the Kennedy legacy and Catholicism’s influence in U.S. politics, through public assassinations and culminating in the death of Mary Jo Kopechne at the dawn of the Space Age.

Antonellis traces Kopechne’s murder as part of a broader conspiracy aimed at dismantling Catholic leadership and reshaping America’s political foundations. He connects these efforts to the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and John F. Kennedy, Jr., demonstrating how their deaths were part of a deliberate strategy to control America’s future.

JFK Jr.’s death,Antonellis proves was no accident, with a handful of associations with the sacrifice of Mary Jo. Little John John perished on 7/16/1999, 30 years to the day after his own father’s Moon Launch, putting the final bloody nail into the coffin of Camelot.

Core Revelations of the Book:

  • The Death of Mary Jo Kopechne: Far from an accident, Kopechne’s death symbolized the destruction of Christian leadership represented by the Kennedys. Antonellis links her death, which echoes symbolic associations with Mary, Mother of Christ, to the subsequent Tate-LaBianca murders by Charles Manson, highlighting a disturbing series of intentional events in 1969 that include dark associations with NASA’s Moon Launch.
  • Nazi Influence in NASA’s Moon Program: Antonellis reveals disturbing connections between former Nazi scientists, instrumental in the Apollo 11 Moon Launch, and the forces manipulating America’s political power, introducing deep anti-Semitism into the American body politic. The Nazi connections to this dark operation explain the anti-Israel stances of the Democrat Party, shedding new light on modern geopolitical alignments.
  • Mirror Image Murder in Wilkes-Barre, PA: The murder of Joan Marie Dymond in Wilkes-Barre, 21 days before the Moon Launch, serves as a mirror image to Mary Jo’s death, reinforcing links between occult practices and pivotal moments in American history.
  • The Democrat Party’s Modern Role: Antonellis suggests that today’s Democrat Party, influenced by anti-Catholic and anti-Christian forces, has foundations built on the bones of Camelot. He argues that the tragedies surrounding the Kennedy family were created, then exploited, to further political goals and reshape America from within.

The Camelot Murders delves deeply into America’s darkest moments, exposing the hidden connections between political murders, occult practices, and a corrupt political class intent on reshaping the nation’s future. This book is a critical read for anyone seeking to stop the forces that divide America today and for Americans who long to make political assassinations a thing of the past.
