Matt Van Swol, a photographer in Asheville, North Carolina, shared on X (formerly Twitter) that people have been able to “get messages out and in with the Satellite messaging feature. This is literally saving lives.” While the connection isn’t perfect, Van Swol notes it’s a “50/50 chance, which is better than nothing.”

iOS 18: Expanding satellite capabilities

With the recent release of iOS 18, Apple has introduced several new satellite features that enhance communication during emergencies. You can now send messages via satellite directly from the Messages app, allowing you to stay connected even when you are off the grid and without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.

Messages via satellite allows you to send and receive texts, emojis and Tapbacks over iMessage and SMS when a cellular or Wi-Fi connection is not available. Additionally, the iPhone 15 Pro shows a text conversation in iMessage with a satellite image and the phrase “Keep Pointing at Satellite… Connected” in the Dynamic Island.

For those who need to connect with friends and family using non-Apple devices, SMS over satellite provides an alternative messaging option. These features build upon the Emergency SOS via Satellite function that was introduced with the iPhone 14, offering even more ways to reach out for help in critical situations.

Before you can take advantage of the new features in the Magnifier app, make sure your device is running iOS 18. Follow these steps to check and update your iOS.

Check your current iOS Version:

  • Open the Settings app on your device
  • Tap General
  • Tap About. Here, you’ll see the version number next to Software Version.

Update to iOS 18:

  • Go to Settings

Now, to use iMessage via satellite, you need to turn on iMessage before you’re outside cellular and Wi-Fi coverage. Here’s how to do this.

  • Go to the Settings app on your iPhone
  • Scroll down and tap on Apps
  • Scroll down and tap on Messages
  • Make sure the iMessage toggle is turned on (it should be green)

How to use messages via satellite

Connecting to a satellite is pretty straightforward:

  • When your iPhone detects that you’re outside cellular and Wi-Fi coverage, it alerts you; on the Lock Screen, you get a prompt that says you can send and receive messages via satellite.
  • When you connect to the satellite, you’ll also see the option to text emergency services using Emergency SOS via satellite, get help with car troubles using Roadside Assistance via satellite, and share your location using “Find My” via satellite (where these services are available).
  • To send a message, just open the Messages app, you’ll be prompted to start accepting messages if you haven’t already, and your iPhone provides instructions to connect to a satellite to send a text. If you have an iPhone 14 Pro or later, the Dynamic Island at the top of the screen has indicator dots that show the strength of your connection and, if your connection could be improved, arrows that direct you to turn left or right. You can tap the Dynamic Island to open Connection Assistant for more help.
  • When you connect and start accepting messages via satellite, you’ll receive any SMS messages that were sent from your emergency contact or members of your Family Sharing group before you started accepting messages via satellite. You won’t receive iMessages until your emergency contact or family member returns to the conversation and taps Send via Satellite underneath their message bubble.

Limitations of satellite messaging

Messages via satellite might take a little longer to send. In ideal conditions, with a direct view of the sky and horizon, a message might take 30 seconds to send. It might take over a minute to send under trees with light or medium foliage, and you might not be able to connect to a satellite under heavy foliage or if you’re surrounded by other obstructions.

Some iMessage features aren’t supported when using a satellite connection. You can’t send or receive photos or videos, audio messages, stickers or messages in a group message.

If you can’t send an iMessage via satellite – for example, if the person you are trying to text has an iPhone that doesn’t have iOS 18, they have a non-Apple device or if you haven’t sent them an iMessage recently – you can use SMS messaging via satellite.

To reduce cancer risk, researchers recommend adopting these 4 healthy habits

While some cancers are driven by genetics, studies have shown that up to half of all cases are caused by behavioral risk factors — which means they’re preventable.

Doctors recommend some common lifestyle changes to prevent cancer, such as not smoking, eating nutritious foods, wearing sun protection and limiting exposure to carcinogens — but each person’s means of reducing risk can look different.

Researchers at Mass General Brigham have compiled four specific, research-backed strategies for reducing risk.

1. Stay on top of preventive screenings

Procrastination is one of the top reasons for missed cancer screenings, research has shown.

For example, colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in Black individuals in the U.S., but many do not get the recommended screenings.

A study by Dr. Adjoa Anyane-Yeboa, a gastroenterologist at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), found that “self-reported procrastination” was the primary reason for the skipped screenings, fueled by “financial concerns, COVID-19 concerns and fear of both the test and bowel preparation.”

“The key takeaway from this study is that all providers should discuss colorectal cancer screening at regular intervals with all of their patients, because early detection through screening saves lives,” Anyane-Yeboa told Fox News Digital. 

“To reduce their cancer risk, all people should be screened starting at age 45 and talk to their families about their family history to figure out if they need to be screened earlier.”

2. Improve your sleep health 

Insufficient or poor-quality sleep has been linked to a higher risk of developing cancers.

Heming Wang, PhD, assistant professor of medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), led a research team that examined the impact of insomnia on ovarian cancer risk.

“Insomnia is a common sleep disorder among ovarian cancer patients,” Wang told Fox News Digital.

“Our research revealed that insomnia increases the risk of a specific subtype of ovarian cancer and is associated with reduced survival in patients,” he went on.

“These findings highlight the importance of addressing insomnia in the prevention and management of ovarian cancer.”

Based on these findings, seeking treatment for insomnia can help reduce the risk of certain types of ovarian cancer, according to the researchers.

3. Know the risks and benefits of daily aspirin use

Research has shown that regularly taking aspirin or another non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) can reduce the risk of developing colorectal cancer — but it can also lead to dangerous side effects, such as bleeding and inflammation.

“It is important to know if you are more likely to benefit from daily aspirin use,” according to MGH.

Daniel Sikavi, MD, and Andrew Chan, MD, of MGH, led a study that explored the link between aspirin and colon cancer risk.

“Our results suggested that people with a less healthy lifestyle — higher body mass index, more smoking, greater alcohol use, less physical activity and poorer diet quality — had a greater absolute benefit from aspirin use in reducing their risk of colorectal cancer,” Sikavi told Fox News Digital.

People with a healthier lifestyle had a lower overall risk of colon cancer, the researchers found, but regular aspirin use didn’t have the same protective effects for that group.

“This work is an important example of a more personalized approach to cancer prevention by targeting effective prevention strategies to populations that are the most likely to benefit,” Sikavi noted. 

4. Cut down on sugar-sweetened beverages

More than half of the U.S. population consumes sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) on any given day, studies have shown.

Research by the American Cancer Society (ACS) found that men and women who drank two or more servings of SSBs per day had a 5% higher risk of dying from an obesity-related cancer.

“Despite their sweet taste, sugary drinks pose significant health risks,” Longgang Zhao, PhD, a researcher at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, told Fox News Digital.

“Researchers have already linked the beverages to obesity, diabetes and heart disease.” 

Zhao recently led a study that investigated the link between sugar-sweetened beverages and liver cancer risk among postmenopausal women.

“In our current study using data from the Women’s Health Initiative prospective cohort, we found that postmenopausal women who drank one or more sugar-sweetened beverages per day had a higher risk of developing liver cancer and dying of chronic liver disease than those who drank less than three or fewer sugar-sweetened beverages per month,” he said.

Airline passenger goes viral for recording neighbor’s midflight photo attempts

An air traveler recently captured on video multiple moments when a fellow passenger reached across her seat to take photos of the sky. 

Fanny Gagnon O’Donnell was traveling on a flight from Spain to Germany where she was seated in the window seat.

She told Storyful that her travel experience was going well until the person sitting next to her proceeded to cross into her space for the entirety of the flight.

“Every 20 minutes or so he would shove his arm in front of me and take pictures of the clouds,” Gagnon O’Donnell told the outlet.

In the video, Gagnon O’Donnell can be seen sitting calmly as the other passenger reaches across her seat space. 

Gagnon O’Donnell explained that she thought it was “cute” on the first occasion but became annoyed as it continued to happen three to four more times before she closed the window abruptly. 

That, however, did not deter the flight neighbor, Gagnon O’Donnell said.

From there, Gagnon O’Donnell said her seat neighbor would tap her on the shoulder and ask her to reopen the window throughout the flight to take more pictures.

Gagnon O’Donnell’s TikTok video has garnered nearly 5 million views, and some social media comments show solidarity and frustration. 

One user wrote, “My anger issues could never.”

Another said, “It happened to me a month ago when I was flying from Madrid to Paris and the girl did it like 3-4 times. I closed it, put my AirPods [in] and ignored her.”

Others, however, said maybe it was the passenger’s first time flying. 

“It’s not that bad. Just let him take a pic. He’s excited [and] it’s cute,” one TikTok user commented.

Another said, “Imagine it’s someone’s first time flying though.”

Rosalinda Randall, a California-based etiquette expert and trainer, told Fox News Digital via email that sitting in the window seat can have its perks. 

“You have something to lean against which is comfortable for sleeping as well as not being squished by the bulkier middle seat passenger. It also makes you in charge of the window shade, which does require courtesy and consideration,” she said.

Randall said she gives Gagnon O’Donnell “props” for her attitude toward the intrusive passenger. 

“I agree with her initial decision of allowing the photographer to shoot his videos a few times throughout the flight,” she said, adding, “While he may not have picked up on it, or chosen to ignore it, there are some social cues that she could have applied.”

Randall said the window seat passenger could have “exaggerated a lean-back” or “leaned forward to look out the window herself.”

She said Gagnon O’Donnell could have also lowered the window shade half-way or offered to take the photos for the passenger. 

Randall said passengers in similar situations can also say something to the intrusive passenger, such as, “Excuse me, it’s a bit disturbing when you continue reach over.” Or, “Go ahead and take a few photos, but then I’d like to be able to relax.”

She added, “Naturally, we cannot anticipate anyone’s reaction. But having civilly and clearly expressed our request without compliance, it’s time to call for assistance.”

Vance vs. Walz debate: Top takeaways from VP candidates’ face-off

In recent weeks, Tim Walz’ team tried to lower expectations for his debate with rival JD Vance. Now we know why. 

Democratic vice presidential nominee and Minnesota Gov. Walz did not turn in a disastrous performance on the debate stage, but he was clearly outclassed by Ohio Sen. Vance. Trump supporters who have questioned the young Ohio senator’s qualifications for the nation’s second-highest office, or asked why the former president chose him to be his running mate, slept better on Tuesday night. He was sharp, appealing, and policy-savvy. Most important, Vance totally upended the media’s unflattering characterization of him by being sympathetic, respectful and likeable. 

Vance had the advantage of having held dozens of press interviews in recent weeks; he was ready and tested. By contrast, Walz has done almost no unscripted encounters with the media since he became the Democrats’ vice-presidential candidate; his inability to go beyond talking points and delve deep into policy was not surprising. 

VANCE, WALZ VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE ENDS WITH BOTH CANDIDATES TOUTING ‘NEW’ FUTURE

Walz spent much of the debate talking about programs he claimed to have successfully enacted in Minnesota, like paid family leave. What he was supposed to do on Tuesday night was make the case for running mate Vice President Kamala Harris.  

Over and over during the nearly two hour debate, Vance asked the most salient question, also posed by Trump during his debate. Harris has been in the White House for the past three and a half years – why hasn’t she moved forward on the policies she now claims will solve the nation’s problems?

As with the ABC presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, the CBS News moderators embarrassed themselves by clearly favoring the Democrat contestant. Moreover, CBS’ Margaret Brennan and Norah O’Donnell affected a grating school-marmish tone, overly eager to chaperone what was an extremely orderly debate.  

Their questions featured well-worn Democrat priorities (climate change, abortion) and they largely avoided topics that could have played well for Vance, like crime. O’Donnell challenged the senator on Trump formerly calling climate change a “hoax” and then asserted gratuitously that “the overwhelming consensus is that the climate is changing.” 

WALZ REPEATS GEORGIA ABORTION DEATH FALSEHOOD DECRIED BY DOCTORS AS ‘FEARMONGERING’

Moreover, having said they would not fact-check the candidates, the two women intervened more than once to question a response from Vance, while doing so only one time with Walz.

Unhappily for the Minnesota governor, that one probing question was calamitous. Asked why he had falsely claimed to be in Hong Kong during the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre, Walz launched into a word salad that would have made Kamala Harris proud, talking about his experiences traveling in China. Asked again to answer why he had been untruthful, Walz misfired and looked stunned. In effect, he was caught out in a lie. Since he has a history of spinning falsehoods about his past, and especially about his military rank, this was not helpful.

Vance, like Walz, was meant to argue the case for his running mate, and that he did. When the moderators and Walz derided Trump’s claim during the presidential debate that he had the “concept of a plan” on health care, Vance said that Trump did not have a plan – he had a record. More than once during the evening he reminded the audience that during Trump’s presidency inflation was low, the border was closed and the world was at peace.

KAMALA HARRIS MAKES A DESPERATE MOVE ON A CRITICAL ISSUE TO SAVE A SINKING CAMPAIGN

When moderator Margaret Brennan pushed Vance to explain why Trump had abandoned the Iran nuclear deal, thus purportedly allowing the terror state to speed up its efforts to build a nuclear weapon, Vance noted that for the past three-plus years Harris and Biden have been in charge. He rightly pointed out that they helped rebuild Iran’s ability to wage war by not enforcing the Trump sanctions, thus allowing the mullahs to grow their income by $100 billion. With Iran just having attacked Israel with 180 missiles, Vance’s referencing the Reagan-Trump doctrine of peace through strength resonated. 

While Walz repeated Harris’ vague promises about making life better for middle class families, Vance reminded the audience that take-home pay had risen under Trump and inflation was low, while under Harris, prices on everything from food to housing had shot up more than 20%. When Walz claimed economists backed Harris’ plan over Trump’s, Vance responded that Trump didn’t have Ph.D.s on his team, he had common sense. 

When Walz accused Trump of wanting to enact tariffs on imports, which would serve as a new tax on Americans, Vance congratulated President Joe Biden on keeping the former president’s tariffs on China in place, defusing the issue. 

Over and over during the nearly two hour debate, Vance asked the most salient question, also posed by Trump during his debate. Harris has been in the White House for the past three and a half years – why hasn’t she moved forward on the policies she now claims will solve the nation’s problems?

Vance clearly won the dispute over the border, noting that Harris had bragged for three years about undoing all the restrictions that Trump put in place. When Brennan challenged Vance on how Trump would handle separating families while carrying out deportations, Vance referred to the horrifying report that the Department of Homeland Security has lost track of more than 320,000 children brought across the border illegally – a damning and heartbreaking situation that has resulted from Harris’ open border.

Not surprisingly, the debate got heated on the subject of abortion. Vance criticized the Minnesota law signed by Walz that does not require the doctor to do everything necessary for the care of a baby that survives a late-term abortion. Walz disputed the characterization, but Vance is correct.  Walz, meanwhile, charged Vance with having earlier backed a 15-week national abortion ban. Vance explained that he shares Trump’s view that the states are now charged with setting the regulations.

The candidates sparred on other topics, and took expected swipes at each other’s running mates, but both maintained their composure and even agreed that on some issues, like school safety, they could likely find some common ground. Especially given the Harris-Walz strategy of avoiding scrutiny and trying to hide their progressive agendas, it was an unusually useful event for America’s voters.

The winner of the night, without a doubt, was JD Vance. Will it matter? After all, many argue that no one votes for the V.P. But voters tell pollsters they do not enough about Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. 

Now they know more, and on the basis of Tuesday night’s performance, Vance might have won over a few folks. With the race a dead heat, everything matters.

Breast cancer diagnoses spiking among women under 50, new report reveals

Although breast cancer deaths have been declining for decades in the U.S., diagnoses have been on the uptick among women 50 and younger.

That’s according to a new report from the American Cancer Society (ACS) — Breast Cancer Statistics, 2024.

The good news is that since 1989, breast cancer mortality has declined overall by 44% — but diagnoses of the disease have been rising by 1% each year between 2012 and 2021.

The biggest spike was seen among women younger than 50 (1.4% per year) and Asian-American/Pacific-Islander women (up to 2.7% per year), the report revealed.

“Although the breast cancer death rate has declined by 44% thanks to advances in early detection and treatment, the continued increase in breast cancer incidence may slow progress in the future,” lead author Angela Giaquinto, associate scientist in cancer surveillance research at the ACS, told Fox News Digital.

That is especially the case among women younger than 50, she said, whose rates are increasing by 1.4% per year compared to 0.7% per year in older women.

Dr. William Dahut, chief scientific officer at the ACS, noted that women are “a lot less likely” to die from breast cancer, but that “alarming disparities” still remain — particularly for Asian-American, Pacific Islander, Native American and Black women.

“These gaps need to be rectified through systematic efforts to ensure access to high-quality screening and treatment for every woman,” he said in the release.

The report compiled cancer data from the National Cancer Institute’s Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR), and the National Center for Health Statistics.

Second only to skin cancer, breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women.

“The reasons for the increased prevalence in breast cancer in younger patients is complicated, multifaceted and still being studied.”

This year, approximately 310,720 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and around 42,250 will die from the disease, according to the ACS.

“The increased prevalence of breast cancer is not only an issue in the U.S. — we are seeing similar trends in other countries as well,” Dr. Christopher McGreevy, associate chief of breast surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey, told Fox News Digital.

Potential reasons for the younger trend

“The reasons for the increased prevalence of breast cancer in younger patients are complicated, multifaceted and still being studied,” said McGreevy, who was not involved in the report.

One reason for early-onset breast cancer is that more patients are obese, the doctor noted. 

“Excess weight, particularly after menopause, fuels estrogen production, a key driver of certain breast cancers,” he said.

Delayed childbearing can also increase the onset of the disease, McGreevy noted, as pregnancy reduces women’s breast cancer risk. 

“Environmental toxins, lurking in everything from plastics to pesticides, are also suspected contributors,” he said.

“These endocrine disruptors mimic estrogen in the body, potentially triggering abnormal cell growth.”

Genetics could also factor into the uptick, according to the doctor.

“Certain gene mutations, like BRCA1 and BRCA2, significantly elevate the risk of breast cancer, even at a young age,” he said.

Potential limitations

There were some limitations associated with the study, the researchers acknowledged.

“The risk and trends in the study are for all women and are not able to account for individual patient characteristics, such as comorbidities or treatment received, or control for social determinants of health, such as insurance status,” Giaquinto told Fox News Digital.

“We also present statistics for the broadly defined racial and ethnic groups, which mask substantial differences within these populations.”

Prevention tips

The best means of prevention is to talk to your doctor about getting screened, according to Giaquinto.

“Early detection of breast cancer is one of the best tools we have for improving survival,” she told Fox News Digital.

“All women should keep up to date with their recommended breast cancer screenings. This is especially relevant for younger women, as the recommended age of the United States Preventive Services Task Force was recently dropped to age 40.”

Women should also be aware of their family history and personal risk factors, Giaquinto added.

The “significant” role the U.S. played in helping Israel fend off Iran’s aerial assault on Tuesday came just hours after Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin assured Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant that the U.S. had “increased force readiness” and stood ready.

“This is a significant escalation by Iran,” White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told reporters Tuesday. “It is equally significant that we were able to step up with Israel and create a situation in which no one was killed in this attack in Israel.”

The comments were made following massive missile strike fired by Iran in which some 180 missiles were fired at Israel.

According to Iranian state media, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the attack was in retaliation for the Friday assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed alongside IRGC commander and military advisor Brig. Gen. Abbas Nilforushan, as well as Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas who was killed in July during a visit to Tehran.

“In response to the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh, Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah and Martyr Nilfroshan, we targeted the heart of the occupied territories,” the IRGC said in a statement reported by Iranian media. “If the Zionist regime reacts to Iran’s operations, it will face crushing attacks.”

Following the attacks, Israel closed its airspace, residents in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem were ordered to shelter in place and the Israeli security cabinet said it would convene Tuesday night in a bunker in Jerusalem, according to Israeli news outlet the Jerusalem Post.

It remains unclear if Iranian missiles had made contact with any targets, though the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) told Fox News Digital that no casualties were yet known.

In a statement to Fox News, a U.S. defense official said, “[In] accordance with our ironclad commitment to Israel’s security, U.S. forces in the region are currently defending against Iranian-launched missiles targeting Israel. 

“Our forces remain postured to provide additional defensive support and to protect U.S. forces operating in the region,” the official added.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Pentagon said in a readout regarding the second call Austin has held with Gallant in the last 24 hours, that the secretary “made it clear that the United States is well-postured to defend U.S. personnel, allies, and partners in the face of threats from Iran and Iran-backed terrorist organizations and is determined to prevent any actor from exploiting tensions or expanding the conflict in the region.”

Three U.S. guided-missile destroyers have been positioned off the eastern Mediterranean to help defend Israel, including the USS Arleigh Burke, USS Bulkeley and USS Cole — which reportedly played a closely coordinated role in defending against the Iranian attack on Tuesday.

“Today, Iran launched nearly 200 ballistic missiles towards targets in Israel. The United States military coordinated closely with the Israeli Defense Forces to help defend Israel against this attack,” Sullivan said.  “U.S. naval destroyers joined Israeli Air Defense units in firing interceptors to shoot down inbound missiles.”

In April, during the last major attack that Iran levied at Israel when it fired more than 300 drones and missiles, the USS Arleigh Burke and the USS Carney shot down more than 81 attack drones and at least six ballistic missiles using guided-missile destroyers.

The ballistic missiles were shot down using the SM-3 ballistic missile interceptors from the ships that were also positioned in the eastern Mediterranean at the time. The SM-3 has a range of up to 1,550 miles.

Israel has several of its own defense systems outside of what its offshore allies provide, including the infamous Iron Dome which is designed to intercept short-range rockets and artillery shells fired from distances of two to 43 miles away.

But it also has systems that are capable of stopping missiles fired from greater distances, like its Arrow Missile Defense System, which can intercept missiles fired from up to 1,500 miles away and above the earth’s atmosphere.

The air defense system known as David’s Sling is also designed to intercept enemy planes, drones, tactical ballistic missiles, medium to long-range rockets and cruise missiles fired at a range of 25 to 190 miles away. 

IDF spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said that it was believed the Iranian strikes had stopped, and told Israelis it was safe to leave their shelters.

“During the defense, we carried out quite a few interceptions. There are some impacts in the center and areas in the south of the country,” Hagari said Tuesday night local time. “At this stage we are still carrying out an assessment [of the attack], but we are unaware of casualties.”

3) Mark iPhone as lost

When you turn on “Find My” for your iPhone, you automatically turn on “Activation Lock” for your device. This is true even if your data is wiped or phone is factory reset.

5) Set up ‘Stolen Device Protection’

“Stolen Device Protection” can give you an extra layer of protection. This feature gives you an additional layer of protection when your iPhone leaves a familiar location, such as work or home. If you have this feature on and your device is away from your familiar locations, it will require Face ID or Touch ID for biometric authentication to access sensitive features of your iPhone, such as passwords or credit card information. Additionally, it will activate a security delay so that outside of your familiar locations, there is an hour delay in taking security actions, such as changing your Apple ID password and then using Face ID or Touch ID authentication. Here are the steps to set up “Stolen Device Protection” on your iPhone.

  • Go to the Settings app on your iPhone
  • Tap on Face ID & Passcode (or Touch ID & Passcode for older models)
  • Enter your iPhone’s passcode to access the settings

6) Check Google Maps timeline

If you’ve enabled location history on Google Maps app on your iPhone, you might be able to see the last known location of your iPhone by logging into Google Maps on your desktop or another device. You can retrace your steps and hopefully recover your iPhone. Here are the steps to check your Google Maps Timeline. 

  • On a desktop or another device, open the Google Maps website or app
  • Log in with the Google account that is linked to your iPhone
  • On the desktop, click on the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner
  • Select Your timeline from the menu
  • You will see a map with a timeline of your location history.
  • Use the calendar feature to select the date your iPhone was lost
  • Look for the last recorded location of your iPhone on the map
  • Note the time and place to retrace your steps
  • Visit the last known location to search for your iPhone
  • If the location is a public place, ask around or check with lost and found services

7) Contact authorities

After attempting various methods of finding your lost iPhone or being contacted by or experiencing suspicious individuals or activities, you may come to the unfortunate realization that your iPhone is now stolen. Either way, you should report your lost or stolen iPhone to the local police station. If it is turned in or found, it gives you a greater chance of being reunited with your device. If it has been stolen, the police can help protect you from further issues.

Contact your carrier as soon as possible so that they can either help you locate your device or freeze access to your account, as well as limit the use of your device.

While some foods are considered healthy and nourishing, they might not always be optimal for weight loss.

Registered dietitian nutritionist Ilana Muhlstein spoke with Fox News Digital in an interview about certain foods that could stunt health and fitness goals.

“There’s definitely a big difference between healthy and healthy for weight loss,” the Los Angeles-based expert said. “This is something that I see so many people struggle with.”

While oat-based foods like overnight oats and oatmeal can work well for people who are athletic, they might not be the best choice for those on weight-loss journeys, Muhlstein said.

“It kind of sits with them … they’re not able to burn it off so quickly,” she said. “It’s really good before a workout, as you’re taking those carbs and using them efficiently.”

Muhlstein recommends pairing oat recipes with yogurt or protein powder for a more optimal meal.

They can be used to add flavor or healthy fat to recipes like salad dressing, stir-fry or smoothies, she said.

“If you are trying to eat peanut butter for protein and you’re having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, you are having a lot of calories, a lot of carbs … and very, very little protein overall,” Muhlstein noted.

3. Chia seeds

Seed-based snacks like chia seed puddings have grown in popularity as a healthy breakfast option.

Chia seed puddings, however, can be made with sweeteners like honey, maple syrup and coconut milk, which make them “very high in calories” and low in protein, Muhlstein revealed.

“It has plenty of good, healthy fats and could be great for your digestion, [with] Omega-3s and fiber,” she said.

“But overall, it’s not the slimmest choice if you’re trying to drop pounds on the scale and maintain a leaner frame.”

4. Avocado

While avocado is well-known for being a healthy fat, eating too much can hamper weight-loss goals. 

Most women only need about one avocado’s worth of fat in a whole day, according to Muhlstein.

“When you get a salad with half an avocado on top of the dressing, on top of the nuts and everything else, it’s probably a lot,” she said. “I usually recommend about a quarter to a third of an avocado at a time.”

5. Sourdough bread

During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, many people turned to baking sourdough bread, which spiked its popularity.

While sourdough does have some healthy qualities, as it’s fermented and can have a lower glycemic index, Muhlstein pointed out that it “still has calories.”

“It’s still not cauliflower,” she said. “It’s really funny how many people almost treat it like it is.”

Some of Muhlstein’s clients have made a habit of baking a loaf of sourdough every week and then eating the whole thing, she said.

“It’s really not working for their weight loss,” she said. “But it’s the last thing they think is the problem, because it’s been touted as such a health food.

6. Pesto

Pesto can be a delicious condiment on salads, vegetables and other dishes, but it is usually made with “lots of olive oil, lots of Parmesan cheese and lots of pine nuts,” Muhlstein cautioned.

“When you have that dipped with your bread, and it becomes excessive, it is a very high-calorie condiment,” she said.

Adding more basil will help thicken the recipe, while more water will help blend it.

“I know that sounds sacrilege to some chefs, but if you are really trying to get the flavor, there are ways to make a leaner pesto,” Muhlstein added.

The technology behind remote surgery

The procedure utilized a robotic system and a magnetic endoscope, connected via a direct WebSocket protocol for real-time data transfer. The Swiss surgeon operated from a control console in Zurich, viewing the procedure through a live video feed and steering the endoscope using a PlayStation 3 Move controller. Other demonstrations seem to have scientists using a PlayStation 5 controller, which would be much easier to come by these days.
