Sen. Rand Paul hints at interest to join COVID-19 vaccine debate with Aaron Rodgers, Dr. Fauci, Travis Kelce

0

Aaron Rogers recently referred to Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce as “Mr. Pfizer” because Kelce has partnered with the pharmaceutical company and appeared in commercials promoting COVID-19 and flu vaccines.

Rodgers, traded to the New York Jets during the offseason, has been vocal about his opposition to COVID-19 vaccines.

Ahead of the Chiefs’ Week 5 matchup against the Vikings, Kelce was asked about Rodgers’ comments.

“I thought it was pretty good,” Kelce said with a laugh.

On Tuesday, Rodgers clarified that he was having conversations about the vaccine.

“Mr. Pfizer said he didn’t think he would be in a vax war with me. … This ain’t a vax war, homey. This is just conversation,” Rodgers said Tuesday during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

Rodgers then suggested he would be willing to partake in some sort of “John Wick 4“-style debate.

“But if you want to have some sort of duel, debate … come on the show, let’s have a conversation. Let’s do it like in ‘John Wick 4’ so we both have a second … somebody to help us out. I’m gonna take my man [Robert F. Kennedy] Jr., and he can have [Dr. Anthony] Fauci or some other pharmacrat, and we can have a conversation about this,” Rodgers said.

“That’d be big ratings.”

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., responded to a social media post featuring a clip of Rodgers’ interview with McAfee.

“I can think of someone who would also join this debate against Fauci, @AaronRodgers12.” Sen. Paul wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“Once I got the vaccine — I got it because of keeping myself safe, keeping my family safe, the people in this building. So, yeah, I stand by it one thousand percent. Fully comfortable with him calling me Mr. Pfizer,” Kelce said.

Here are the best and worst US states for mental health, as revealed in a new report

Where you live could have a lot to do with how you feel.

A recent study from Soliant Health, a health care staffing and research company based in Atlanta, Georgia, has revealed this year’s best and worst U.S. states to live in for mental health.

Drawing from national registries and agency data, the report weighed numerous factors that impact people’s mental health status across all 50 states.

FORGIVENESS COULD LEAD TO BETTER MENTAL HEALTH, HARVARD STUDY REVEALS

These included the frequency of “bad mental health days,” access to mental health providers, the suicide rate between the ages of 15 and 24, the unemployment rate, the violent crime rate, the disconnected youth rate, access to exercise opportunities and air pollution, the published report stated.

Alabama had the worst mental health provider-to-population ratio and came in second-to-last for the most mentally unhealthy days, according to the report.

Arkansas scored low in a variety of categories, including exercise opportunities, disconnected youth rate, air pollution and mentally unhealthy days.

The report gave honorable mentions to findings in states like California — which ranked highest for the most access to exercise opportunities but lowest for air pollution.

‘SILENT WALKING’ TREND: PSYCHIATRIST SHARES STRESS-RELIEVING BENEFITS OF STROLLING IN SILENCE

In a statement sent to Fox News Digital, Dr. Gary Small, psychiatry chair of Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey, reacted to his state’s clinching a top spot on the list.

“I am delighted, but not surprised, that New Jersey ranked No. 6 in Soliant Health’s 2023 Best States for Mental Health Report,” he said.

“Over the past several years, our state has steadily expanded its focus on mental health,” he said.

WARNING SIGNS OF SUICIDE: WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT PREVENTION, RED FLAGS AND HOW TO DEAL WITH THE ISSUE

New Jersey has recently “allocated aid to mental health care, including the 988 hotline and mental health services for students,” Small pointed out.

At Hackensack Meridian Health specifically, Small mentioned that multiple mental health services have been implemented.

“In addition, we have established the first behavioral health urgent care facility in the U.S., which helps keep our patients with acute mental health issues in the community and out of the state’s emergency departments — less than ideal settings for stabilizing patients in crisis,” he said.

Soliant’s study was commissioned to “elevate conversations around mental health” and to better “understand disparities in mental health support,” the company said. (iStock)

The Garden State has one of the most “educated and high-income populations in the country,” which correlates to better access to care and healthier lifestyle habits, Small also noted.

“For people in that demographic, there is greater access to exercise opportunities, which is more important to mental health than most people realize,” he said.

“Regular physical activity leads to lower rates of depression, anxiety and age-related cognitive decline,” he said.

As New Jersey was one of the “hardest-hit states” during the coronavirus pandemic, Small said this led to the state’s enhancing its focus on mental health.

“Sadly, California ranked No. 17 on this report, which reflects the many challenges our states are facing due to the recent explosion of mental health problems and inadequate resources throughout our nation,” he noted.

Donald J. Parker, president of Behavioral Health Transformation Services at Hackensack Meridian Health, echoed New Jersey’s emphasis on elevated mental health care, including in schools.

“The idea, which is gaining more traction in mental health care, is to take a more comprehensive approach to mental health, instead of being purely reactive,” said a behavioral health expert in New Jersey.  (iStock)

“Our hospital network just recently launched a collaboration with the Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide to train 2,000 of our nurses to identify the signs of potential suicidal behaviors when kids arrive at our emergency rooms and to get them the right services to prevent self-harm,” he wrote in a statement to Fox News Digital.

Lido Finance discloses 20 slashing events due to validator config issues

Ethereum staking protocol Lido Finance has disclosed its protocol saw 20 slashing events due to a series of infrastructure and signer configuration issues from validators operated by Launchnodes.

The incident occurred on Oct. 11 at about 3:30 pm UTC, according to Launchnodes. In an Oct. 11 post on X, Lido said Launchnodes’ validators nodes are now offline, and slashings have ceased while the root cause was being investigated.

The slashing took place on the Ethereum blockchain and Lido projected the impact to be around 20 Ether (ETH), worth $31,000, as well as additional penalties while the validators are offline for troubleshooting, along with inactivity penalties that the validators will accumulate.

Slashing is a process where a validator breaches a blockchain’s proof-of-stake consensus rules, which often results in the removal of that validator or slashing a portion of the staked-Ether that they provided as collateral.

In a post hours later, Launchnode said the slashing events occurred due to an infrastructure and signer configuration issue.

“We are investigating, and taking steps to prevent any further occurrences and restore full service,” the platform added.

Lido said stakers on the protocol are not affected other than a reduction in daily rewards that will be reflected in the next rebase on Oct. 12.

The staking provider also confirmed that the Lido DAO has an insurance fund of 6,230 staked-ETH, worth $9.5 million, and will be used to mitigate the slashing impact — but by design it does not trigger automatically.

Lido added that stETH holders will be compensated once the “cover method” has been decided, while Launchnodes has pledged to reimburse all losses incurred to Lido.

The liquid staking protocol said the process isn’t automatic because it is impossible to know what the total losses will be ahead of time.

Lido is by far the largest liquid staking protocol, with $13.8 billion in total value locked on its protocol, according to DefiLlama. The next largest is Rocket Pool at $1.7 billion.

Only 226 validators (0.04% of all validators) in the Ethereum ecosystem have been slashed since the launch of the Beacon Chain on Dec. 1, 2020 up until late February 2023.
