UFC star Colby Covington rips USA Boxing’s trans inclusion policy: ‘This is disgusting’

0

UFC star Colby Covington ripped USA Boxing’s decision to allow transgender female fighters to compete against biological women in the ring if they meet certain benchmarks.

Covington made his remarks Thursday on OutKick’s “Tomi Lahren is Fearless.”

“My first reaction is that I think it’s a PR stunt. I think they’re just doing this because no one cares about USA Boxing anymore,” Covington said.

“Nobody’s talking about USA Boxing, so they have to do something to get some publicity because anybody in the right mind thinking that this is a ‘good idea’ needs to seek help immediately. This is disgusting.

“Biological men should have no place in women’s sports. I mean, I can’t imagine being a woman my whole life and having a fair playing field, competing against other women, and then, all of a sudden, they just say, ‘Hey, we’re gonna let biological men come compete in our sports.’ It’s unethical, it’s dangerous and I don’t want to see anybody get killed.

“We need to reverse this, and we need to hold the line and not let this happen.”

Covington said the No. 1 issue boxing commissions talk about is “fighter safety.” He wondered how the rules around trans inclusion in women’s boxing adhere to that notion.

Boxing champions Ebanie Bridges and Amanda Serrano and Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields also spoke out against the policy.

“The boxer identifies as a female and has completed gender reassignment surgery. The fighter has undergone quarterly hormone testing and gives the organization documentation of hormone levels for a minimum of four years.

“The fighter’s testosterone levels have been below 5 nanomoles per liter 48 months before their first fight, the fighter’s total testosterone level must remain below 5 nmol/L through their eligibility to compete against females and the conditions will be monitored and tested at the fighter’s expense with a 12-month suspension for failing to meet the standards.”

Clever trick to make a connection faster on your Wi-Fi network

0

Do photos take forever to load on Instagram on your phone?

Does Netflix endlessly buffer when you try to stream your favorite TV show or movie on your smart TV?

Does loading a web page feel like it takes an eternity on your computer?

You might have too many devices using your Wi-Fi. However, there’s a simple fix to this: prioritizing your device. All you have to do is change your “quality of service” settings.

What is ‘quality of service?’

In basic terms, “quality of service” determines how much bandwidth to give a certain device on your Wi-Fi network. It can prioritize certain devices or programs based on factors like how much bandwidth they need, how much data they use, and how much data they lose.

Prioritizing is what “quality of service” is all about. It makes applications that do critical functions get the right amount of data and bandwidth needed to accomplish their task.

Benefits of prioritization

Prioritizing your device isn’t just about convenience, it’s a game-changer for your online experience. By allocating the right amount of bandwidth to your device, you can:

  • Stream your favorite shows and movies without buffering interruptions
  • Enjoy lag-free online gaming sessions
  • Speed up downloads and uploads
  • Ensure your critical tasks, like video calls or remote work, have a seamless connection

Things to consider before prioritizing your device

“Quality of service” comes with a lot of advantages, but you also run the risk of slowing down important processes by changing priorities. Let’s say you prioritize Netflix over a new Windows Update. You could be leaving your computer at risk because the update takes longer to download. Also, you might not be able to access those settings. It all depends on your router, and usually, routers with more “quality of service” settings are pricier.

For some people, though, it might be worth it to boost your Wi-Fi speed on a certain device. If you choose to prioritize certain devices, you can do it yourself. All you have to do is access your router settings. Here’s how.

Changing the “quality of service” settings on your router

Google Nest routers

  • Open the Google Home app on your phone and select Favorites
  • Select Wi-Fi and then click Devices
  • Choose the device that you’d like to prioritize
  • Select how long you want to prioritize the device for and then hit Save
  • To prioritize an activity, select Wi-Fi
  • Click the Settings icon and then choose Preferred activities
  • Select the activity type you’ want to prioritize

Troubleshooting tips

Sometimes, things don’t go as smoothly as planned when changing the “quality of service” settings on your router. Here are some common issues and how to address them.

Device not appearing: If your device doesn’t appear in the list, ensure it’s connected to the Wi-Fi network and try refreshing the device list.

Errors in settings: Double-check your settings for any typos or incorrect entries.

Router model compatibility: Some older router models may not support advanced QoS settings. In such cases, consider upgrading your router for better performance.

Security considerations

While accessing router settings, it’s crucial to prioritize security.

You’ll want to change the default router login credentials (username and password) to prevent unauthorized access. Consider using a password manager to generate and store complex passwords. Only access router settings from secure devices and networks.

Also, strengthen your network’s privacy and security by integrating a VPN application with your router. Installing a VPN directly onto your router ensures that all devices connected to its network are safeguarded. Here are the top routers for best security.

Here’s my list of the best routers recommended for their security features and also for their compatibility with a VPN service.

Alternative solutions

Although prioritizing your device is highly effective, consider these 3 alternative strategies to enhance your network performance: First, upgrade your internet plan to a higher speed tier.

Second, optimize your device settings for improved performance. Third, use wired connections (Ethernet) for bandwidth-intensive tasks.

Kurt’s key takeaways

Now you know what “quality of service” is and how it can improve your Wi-Fi performance. By prioritizing your device, you can have a faster and smoother online experience. However, you should also be careful not to neglect other important processes or devices that need bandwidth. And remember, not all routers have the same “quality of service” settings, so you might need to do some research before you change them.

Washington legend Warren Moon believes Huskies will ‘find a way’ to win national title, laments end of Pac-12

0

The Washington Huskies have an opportunity to end their time in the Pac-12 with one heck of a story.

As the Huskies prepare to depart the conference for the Big Ten in 2024, all that is standing in their way of a national championship is the No. 1 team in the country: undefeated Michigan.

The Wolverines will be favored on Monday night at NRG Stadium in Houston, a position to which Washington has grown accustomed over the past several weeks.

For one Washington great, it’s a full-circle moment after playing his last collegiate game against Michigan in the 1978 Rose Bowl.

FOX SPORTS’ TIM BRANDO DISCUSSES POSSIBLE WASHINGTON NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE PAC-12 DEPARTURE

“There’s no question I’m going with the Purple and Gold. I’m a former Husky,” Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Moon told Fox News Digital. “My last game in college was against the Michigan Wolverines, and if we have a chance to be the last Pac-12 champion, and now we have the chance to maybe be the last Pac-12 champion that will be NCAA champion, that would be great.”

“I think this team all year long has found a way to win football games late in them. And I think they’ll find a way to win in this one.”

While Moon is taking Washington to beat Michigan in the College Football Playoff National Championship, knowing that his Huskies will no longer be competing in the “Conference of Champions” is upsetting.

“I’m really sad. When it first came down before this season even started, I was even more sad about it,” Moon said. “I’m starting to get a little bit more used to the idea now because it’s been a while, but you’re talking about one of the preeminent conferences in the country in all sports, not just in football. This conference has probably won more national titles than any other conference in the country. So, it’s excelled in sports over the years.”

“So, for that to go away and now we’re going to have to join another conference, yeah, it is kind of sad because this was a top-flight conference. We also understand that money has a lot to do with everything and that’s the thing that was going to keep things afloat for all the universities that are leaving, [it] is the money that they’re going to be paid by these TV contracts to go to these other conferences.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THE THRILLING COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF SEMIFINALS

“So, as sad as I am to see the Pac-12 go away, I understand the other sports would not be able to function if they didn’t get these monies from these TV contracts to keep all the other sports going. You understand the business side of it, but from the sentimental side of it, I’m really sad about the conference going away.”

In order for Washington to come out on top, Heisman Trophy runner-up Michael Penix Jr. will have to be elite against one of the top defenses in the country.

Michael Penix Jr. passes against Texas

The sixth-year senior was spectacular against the Longhorns, attacking the Texas defense down the field by completing six passes of at least 20 yards. He finished the night 29 of 38 for 430 yards and two touchdowns, adding 31 yards on the ground.

“He does a tremendous job at the line of scrimmage as far as recognizing what the other team is doing and getting his team into the right plays. You’ll see him moving guys around, making a lot of calls. He knows this offense inside and out. He’s been running it since he was at Indiana when he was with Coach [Kalen] DeBoer there,” Moon said of Penix.

“So, he’s really good at the line of scrimmage, very smart, doesn’t take a lot of sacks. He knows how to throw the ball away. And I think what people saw the other night that a lot of us haven’t seen a lot of is he’s really athletic with his legs. He made some big runs in that Texas game. I think he’s been very cautious because of all the injuries he had early in his career when he was at Indiana. So, he hasn’t ran the ball as much as he has the ability to. I think we saw some of that the other night. And I told him the other day that we need to see more of that in this championship game.”

Penix and the Washington offense face a Michigan defense that allowed the fewest points per game (9.5) in the country and the second-fewest yards (239.7), but Washington will be the most explosive offense that Michigan has faced this year with a receiving corps considered one of the best in the nation.

“That’s where I think we’re going to have a little bit of an advantage,” Moon said of Washington’s receivers. “I think we had that same advantage against Texas, [which] is that they haven’t seen an offense like this. They don’t see many offenses like this in the Big Ten, except for maybe Ohio State with Marvin Harrison Jr. (five catches for 118 yards against Michigan) and some of the receivers that they’ve had there. And we know the trouble they’ve had with those guys. Even though they won those games, they were really close games.”

Washington wide receivers celebrate a touchdown

Moon pointed to Washington’s ability to protect Penix as Michigan comes off a game in which they sacked Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe six times and had 10 tackles for loss.

“The key is going to be our protection because Michigan can really get after the quarterback,” Moon said. “But we have what was voted as the best offensive line in the country, so I think that’s in our favor, too.”

“If we can block them up front and handle the pressure that they will bring, I think we’ll do very well in the secondary as far as throwing the football because we have three really talented receivers. Two of them [are] over 1,000 yards. They’re all good after the catch, and they drop very, very few balls. And we have a very underrated tight end in Jack Westover.”

While Washington is known for its passing attack – first in the country with 350 yards per game – the health of running back Dillon Johnson is a concern after the junior aggravated a right foot injury against Texas.

“I think the key for us is going to be whether Dillon Johnson can play or not,” Moon said. “Dillon had over 1,100 yards this year. He got hurt the other night, late in that game.”

DeBoer said Wednesday that he expects Johnson to play Monday night for the national championship.

Michigan and Washington kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Monday.

Matt Riddle makes his in-ring return to professional wrestling on Saturday night when he takes on Jacob Fatu at Major League Wrestling’s “Kings of Colosseum” in Philadelphia.

It will be the first time Riddle has been seen in the squared circle since he was let go from WWE. Despite being a fan favorite, he was unceremoniously released amid a controversy over an incident at JFK Airport in New York.

Riddle told Fox News Digital in a recent interview he has no hard feelings toward the WWE.

“For me, at the WWE, not at all,” he said. “I loved every second of it. I was a multiple-time tag-team champion with Randy [Orton], I was an NXT tag-team champion, I won the Dusty Cup Classic, I beat Bobby Lashley for the United States Championship, I wrestled multiple WrestleManias, Royal Rumbles.”

“No, I have no hard feelings. And I would just say, with WWE, they run a ship, they run it a certain way, and when you work for WWE, everything you do is under a magnifying glass. It doesn’t matter if you did anything wrong, if you did something right, if it was in between, it’s perception. And the WWE, unfortunately, if a situation happens, and they don’t like the perception, they make their decision. But I’m not going to argue with them. That’s their company. I don’t run it. I just worked there. I’m thankful that they gave me the time that they did and that’s all I can say.”

“I have zero hard feelings. I don’t know if I can say that for them. They might have some hard feelings, but I feel like they’re pretty professional. They’re more about that paper, that money. So, I don’t think there’s any hard feelings. I mean, they did have to pay me for three months when I didn’t work. That was on them. They fired me.”

Washington maintains underdog status ahead of Michigan matchup

0

It has been a wild year in the world of college football, as the seeds of change have been planted.

It began when the College Football Playoff announced that it would go to a 12-team format starting in 2024, ending the 10-year run of the four-team edition. Conference realignment took over the summer, as the Pac-12 disintegrated as a major conference before Deion Sanders and Colorado were headlining news for the first part of the season.

The Michigan sign-stealing scandal was all anyone could talk about a month before an undefeated Florida State was left out of the CFP, sparking a massive debate over who belonged in the four-team playoff.

That is all in the past now.

FOX SPORTS’ TIM BRANDO DISCUSSES POSSIBLE WASHINGTON NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE PAC-12 DEPARTURE

Washington and Michigan have emerged from all the stories as undefeated teams vying for the national championship on Monday night in Houston.

Let’s take a look at some of the betting lines for the CFP national championship as of Thursday from Caesars Sportsbook.

Michigan Wolverines:

Money line: -190 Spread: -4.5

Michigan needed a fourth-quarter comeback and overtime to beat Alabama in the Rose Bowl, but they are now one win away from the program’s first national title since 1997.

Jim Harbaugh went for it on fourth down at the Alabama 40-yard line late in the fourth quarter, and quarterback J.J. McCarthy rewarded Harbugh’s faith with a completion to Blake Corum that went for 27 yards.

The Wolverines punched it in to send the game into overtime, scored on their first possession and stopped Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe on fourth down, sending Michigan players streaming onto the field in celebration.

“I wouldn’t say the Michigan win was pretty,” Caesars Sportsbook college football lead Joey Feazel told Fox News Digital. “They had a very dominating first half, but it didn’t really reflect on the scoreboard just because of some turnovers and really bad special teams play. But they fought until the very end [and] scored quickly in overtime to get the touchdown.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THE THRILLING COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF SEMIFINALS

“And then we’re able to stop them. Maybe a poor play call by Alabama, but it was enough to get it done. Taking on Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide in a playoff scenario is nothing easy to do.”

The Wolverines have been favored to win the national championship for the majority of the year, according to Caesars.

Michigan’s defense has been their calling card all season, allowing the least amount of points per game (9.5) in the country and the second-fewest yards (239.7).

They will face their greatest challenge of the year against a Washington offense that gets the ball downfield and forces defenses to pay sideline to sideline.

Washington Huskies

Money line: +158 Spread: +4.5

The Huskies find themselves in the CFP final for the first time and are looking to complete a magical season.

Washington enters the national championship with a record of 14-0 and sporting the top passing offense in the country (350.0 passing yards per game).

The Huskies dominated Texas in the second half of the Sugar Bowl before allowing the Longhorns to make it a game in the final minutes.

“Really a dominating performance on offense throughout that whole game against a pretty talented Texas defense [that] was impressive,” Feazel told Fox News Digital. “[It] got close at the end, but that’s fun to see. [It] could have gone the other way but [it’s] just like it’s been for Washington all year long. [They’ve] been in close games, able to get it done.”

Washington’s last 10 games of the season have been decided by 10 points or fewer.

“Before the game, we had this matchup look-ahead at 7 [points],” Feazel said of the spread. “Given the circumstances with how good Washington played, it kind of drifted down.

“Despite only winning by six, it was still, we thought, a dominating performance with Washington playing a very good Texas team,” Feazel continued.

The Huskies were the underdogs in their last two games against Oregon and Texas.

Total points: Over/under 55.5

The over/under is set at 55.5 total points, according to Caesars Sportsbook, despite the Huskies scoring the 10th-most points per game in the country (37.6).

The dominance of the Michigan defense is playing a very large role here after holding Alabama to just 288 total yards in the semifinals.

“The strength of this Michigan team, the strength that it’s been all year long, is that defense and being able to stop a lot of power offenses,” Feazel told Fox News Digital. “We saw Penn State [and] Ohio State not be able to do much. There hasn’t really been anybody that’s been able to do much against this Michigan defense.”

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

“We saw last year another dominating defense with Georgia. Their offense was able to put up a bunch of points, but TCU really couldn’t do much against a dominating defense,” Feazel added. “And that’s really what this total is reflecting is the respect for Michigan’s defense, especially against a highly talented offense like Washington.”

Michigan and Washington play for the national championship on Monday at 7:30 p.m. ET at NRG Stadium, which is the home of the Houston Texans.

‘Pandemic skip,’ a COVID mental health phenomenon, could delay major milestones, experts say

0

The coronavirus pandemic resulted in a lot of loss — and to this day people may be losing out because of it.

A mental health phenomenon dubbed the “pandemic skip” has caught viral attention on social media.

The hosts of the podcast “Between Us Girlies” revealed their understanding of the concept in a TikTok video, which has been viewed over six million times.

COVID-19 LOCKDOWNS: WHAT’S UP WITH NOSTALGIA FOR THE ‘OUTBREAK ERA’?

“Whatever age you were when the pandemic started is … where you’re at mentally,” Casey Corradin, the Pennsylvania-based co-host, said in the video, which was posted in November 2023.

“So, these women that were, like, 27 when the pandemic started, and then it’s three years later and they’re 30, and everyone around them is having kids, they’re like … ‘I’m not ready to have kids. I’m still young, I’m 27.’”

She added, “We were in our early 20s when the pandemic started — and we took a big chunk of the early-20s, figuring-your-life-out phase, and now we’re 27 and we’re still figuring it out.”

Dominique Hamler, a registered nurse and executive director of the Los Angeles Outpatient Center, told Fox News Digital that the pandemic skip could pose a real concern for people of all ages.

COVID-19 PANDEMIC HAS CAUSED ‘COLLECTIVE TRAUMA’ AMONG US ADULTS, NEW POLL SAYS

“I am just excited that there is a word for it, because we definitely lost a moment of our lives during the pandemic,” she said.

“People were suffering with not only illness, but the fact that we were isolated and couldn’t even touch each other for a long period of time.”

Los Angeles Outpatient Center executive director Dominique Hamler said the pandemic skip could pose a real concern for people of all ages. (AONL Conference 2023)

Hamler worked on the front lines of the pandemic as a registered nurse. She said the pandemic skip refers to “that time period where our lives were disrupted.”

“Our lives were totally changed and will never be the same,” she said. “Not to mention our experience of what we lost from the aspect of time that we’ll never be able to gain again.”

FREE COVID TESTS COMING TO US SCHOOLS, SAYS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT: ‘PREVENTING THE SPREAD’

Hamler considers the concept a “mental regression,” as people feel stuck at the same developmental period and age they were when the pandemic started.

“We’re still processing it years later,” she said.

Psychologist Dr. Yamalis Diaz of NYU Langone reiterated that the pandemic skip represents a significant pause or slowing down of development.

“It’s almost like a movie you paused and resumed,” she said in a conversation with Fox News Digital.

“For people in a developmentally sensitive state … when a lot of developmental change is occurring, such as young adults, it makes sense that they would feel this most, compared to older adults whose lives were already relatively stable when the pandemic started.”

“People were suffering with not only illness, but the fact that we were isolated and couldn’t even touch each other for a long period of time.”

Young adults in particular may feel this impact when it comes to completing education, making career decisions, dating, establishing long-term relationships and becoming financially independent, Diaz said.

“[These] are all critical elements of this developmental stage and were highly impacted by having to ‘pause,’” she said.

Traditional plans and milestones were also put on hold during the pandemic, said Hamler.

Establishing long-term relationships is one of the critical developmental phases that was highly impacted by the pandemic, an expert said. (iStock)

“If you were a young adult, maybe thinking about getting married or having kids, that was put on hold,” she said.

This “skip” could result in continued delayed development if not addressed, Hamler warned.

“We are just at the tip of the iceberg [when it comes to] addressing mental health as a whole,” she said.

WHAT IS TAYLOR SWIFT AMNESIA? SWIFTIES REPORT THEY CAN’T REMEMBER HER CONCERTS FOR THIS REASON

“It’s going to delay everything until we start having a conversation about it, start getting the therapy and the treatment we need to address the trauma” that the pandemic caused, she said.

For some people, Hamler suggested a “deeper dive” may be necessary in order to “advance mentally, spiritually and emotionally.”

“It’s going to take some time and … a full, head-on focus on mental health,” she said.

Diaz agreed that the pandemic skip will cause a ripple effect that could delay other milestones, but noted that it’s “not necessarily a completely new phenomenon.”

THE TAYLOR SWIFT OBSESSION: PSYCHOLOGIST WEIGHS IN ON WHY FANS WORSHIP CELEBRITIES

“[This] is part of the basis for Dr. Jeffrey Arnett’s Emerging Adulthood theory,” she said.

Arnett, a psychologist, proposed that people between ages 18 and 25 are in a period called “emerging adulthood.”

“Our lives were totally changed and will never be the same.”

“In essence, when you look back over generations, the ‘path to adulthood’ has gotten longer, and young adults are reaching what are considered ‘traditional adulthood markers’ — finishing education, leaving home, becoming financially independent, starting a career, getting married and having kids — at older ages.”

Since the pandemic was “such a dramatic, ‘stop-everything’ kind of event,” Diaz suggested that it’s likely to impact transition times for the 20-something generations, he suggested.

“This is especially true when you also consider mental health, which could also impact young adults’ ability to successfully transition through this stage,” she said.

“Given that this stage of development is already susceptible to increased anxiety, depression and executive functioning difficulties, the pandemic … added pressure to an already pressured developmental turning point.”

Hamler recommended “giving yourself time” instead of chasing milestones that may have been missed.

‘I’m one of the best pitchers in the world’

0

Trevor Bauer has been on quite the roller coaster over the last three-plus years.

He parlayed a Cy Young Award in 2020 into a $102 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers prior to the following season.

Then, he was hit with graphic sexual assault allegations in which a woman said the pitcher knocked her unconscious during a sexual encounter without her consent.

Bauer has been hit with other allegations but has cleared his name in just about all of them. However, he was still hammered with a 324-game suspension for violating MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.

His suspension was reduced to 194 (representing the time he missed in 2021 while on administrative leave and the entirety of the 2022 season), but he was still released by the Dodgers before the 2023 season began. As a result, he played professionally in Japan last year.

Now, the majority of Bauer’s legal issues are over and he’s ready to go back to Major League Baseball. He has not pitched in the majors since June 28, 2021.

Bauer told Fox News Digital in a sit-down that he never did anything “criminally” but still had to look in the mirror and work on himself after the allegations.

And that is something he says all 30 MLB teams should look at and consider in their dialogue with the 32-year-old during free agency.

“Anyone that’s willing to sit down with me and listen: I’d like to play the second half of my career in a better way than I played the first half,” Bauer told Fox News Digital. “I’d like to be an example that you can make mistakes, recognize them, adjust and then be better in the future. I think that’s something us as humans have to do and should be doing constantly.”

“So, yeah, anyone who’s willing to listen: I want to make things right and do things better. Whether it’s MLB teams or media members or members of MLB, whoever. I’ve had a lot of time to reflect on the last two and a half years. There’s a lot of things I would like to do better, a lot of severed and damaged relationships I’d like to repair.”

One of Bauer’s former teammates recently advocated for the pitcher. Mookie Betts called Bauer “an awesome guy” and said his experience with him “is not anything remotely close to what everyone else’s experience is.”

Bauer called Betts’ comments “a breath of fresh air.”

“Obviously, it’s a tough landscape for players to come out, coaches to come out and say things publicly, and I get that. So, I’m super appreciative that he said those things,” Bauer said.

But the pitcher said he’s gotten plenty of similar sentiments from others in private.

“You can go through my texts and pull up countless examples of that,” Bauer said. “It’s nice when some of the private support is shown publicly.”

He was recently an All-Star in Japan with a 2.76 ERA at their professional level, and he was elite in the majors just before his suspension.

In a combined 28 starts in the COVID-shortened 2020 season and his abbreviated 2021 campaign, his ERA was a minuscule 2.24, and he struck out 11.8 batters per nine innings with a 0.92 WHIP.

That’s why Bauer expects to play in the majors this year.

“I think I’m one of the best pitchers in the world,” Bauer said. “Going to Japan last year, had a really good year, set some new personal highs in velocity. My average velocity was second-highest ever in my career, peak velocity was the highest ever. [I] developed a new pitch. I think I’m one of the best pitchers in the world. I think, talent-wise, I deserve to play in the MLB. Obviously, there’s outside circumstances, so hopefully I’ll get a second chance, but I definitely expect to be playing.”

“I have a lot to bring a team on and off the field,” he added. “I’m very passionate about helping other players around me. But I think it’s more of, I want to be a positive influence on the community, on the team, on the organization, on the players. I’m going to perform on the field. I’m in great shape. I’m better now than I ever have been in my career. I have no doubt that I’ll perform well on the field.”

“But I want to be a positive impact in the clubhouse. I want to be a positive impact in the community, and I will do those things. I’m committed to playing the second half of my career better than I played in the first, helping grow the game both from a skill perspective, on-the-field technical perspective and from a fan-engagement perspective. I have a lot to offer. I’m going to do the second half of my career better than I did the first, and I’m just looking for an opportunity to do that.”

Warriors’ Draymond Green return to team facility nears: report

0

Four-time NBA champion Draymond Green has been away from the Golden State Warriors several weeks.

The NBA suspended him Dec. 13, one day after Green was involved in an on-court altercation with Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic.

ESPN reported Green will be permitted at the Warriors’ practice site in the near future.

Green has missed ten games, and the Warriors’ contest with the defending champion Denver Nuggets Thursday will be the 11th game the forward has missed. Green was suspended earlier this season after he appeared to put Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert in a chokehold.

At the time of the suspension, the NBA said Green would “be required to meet certain league and team conditions” before he could return.

DRAYMOND GREEN’S PROGRESS TOWARD RETURN TO WARRIORS FROM SUSPENSION TRACKED VIA VIRTUAL MEETINGS: REPORT

Green is getting counseling as a condition of his latest suspension. He is also attending virtual meetings with team officials, representatives from the players union and the NBA to track his progress toward reinstatement, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported last month.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will make the decision on Green’s return. ESPN reported there is a “general belief” Green will likely sit out around 11–13 games, barring any setbacks.

On Tuesday, Warriors coach Steve Kerr was asked if he had been in communication with Green during the suspension.

“A little bit. We text,” Kerr said. “But we’ve been giving him his space, and he’s been giving us ours.”

Green inked a four-year contract extension with the Warriors in late June. He is reportedly losing an estimated $153,954 every game he misses. The Warriors have not added another player to the roster to replace Green during his extended absence.

Green was named the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2017 and has long been considered a key piece of the Warriors’ dynasty that produced four NBA titles.

Magic to retire Shaquille O’Neal’s No. 32

0

Shaquille O’Neal was the No. 1 overall pick of the Orlando Magic in 1992 and, along with Penny Hardaway, helped take the team to new heights and an NBA Finals appearance early in his career.

O’Neal’s high-profile exit following the 1995-96 season and eventual agreement to join the Los Angeles Lakers may have left a bitter taste in the mouths of fans and Magic officials.

But all that appears to be water under the bridge.

O’Neal will be the first player in Magic history to have his uniform number retired. He wore No. 32 with Orlando. The ceremony will take place Feb. 13.

Bill Russell’s No. 6 is retired by all NBA teams, but the legendary center never played for Orlando.

NBA FINES NETS $100,000 FOR VIOLATING THE LEAGUE’S PLAYER PARTICIPATION POLICY

“When someone asks who was the first player to officially put the Orlando Magic on the map, the answer is simple — Shaquille O’Neal,” Magic CEO Alex Martins said in a news release.

“He took this franchise to new heights, both on and off the court, and his legacy is still felt within our organization today. On behalf of the DeVos family, we are excited to honor Shaquille by raising No. 32 into the rafters of the Kia Center, where it will remain forever.”

O’Neal was the 1992-93 NBA Rookie of the Year and an All-Star in each of his four seasons there. He helped Orlando get past the dynastic Chicago Bulls even with the return of Michael Jordan.

He averaged 27.2 points and 12.5 rebounds per game with Orlando.

“It was a great four years there,” O’Neal said on TNT. “I just wanted to come in and just make a name for myself. … I’d like to thank the city of Orlando, like to thank the Orlando Magic organization. Appreciate you very much.”

He added that he was particularly grateful to the late Rich DeVos for bringing him to Orlando.

Since O’Neal left, three other Magic players have worn No. 32 — Jeremy Richardson (2008-09), Justin Harper (2011-12) and C.J. Watson (2015 to 2017).

Elon Musk zings Mavericks’ Mark Cuban as billionaires debate DEI merits

0

Tesla CEO Elon Musk zinged Dallas Mavericks minority team owner Mark Cuban Thursday as the two debated diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) in business.

Musk responded to Cuban after the billionaire gave his opinions on diversity, equality and inclusion.

“If you don’t think there is a need for DEI and it doesn’t create a competitive advantage for your company, just  look at the @x posts/replies/quotes below,” Cuban wrote.

“These are the same people that work for you or are your co-workers. Everyone is entitled to their POV, but these same feelings, even if they are not said out-loud, are heard loud and clear at work.”

Musk responded with a pointed question about the makeup of the Mavericks’ roster.

“Cool, so when should we expect to see a short white/Asian women on the Mavs?”

Cuban didn’t immediately respond to Musk’s reply.

Musk kicked off the debate on X when he wrote that DEI was “just another word for racism” and “shame on anyone who uses it.” When X user Ed Krassenstein mentioned that he thought DEI had major flaws, Musk responded that “discrimination on the basis of race, which DEI does, is literally the definition of racism.”

Cuban weighed in with five separate points on DEI.

Mark Cuban vs Thunder

“Good businesses look where others don’t, to find the employees that will put your business in the best possible position to succeed,” he wrote of diversity.

“You may not agree, but I take it as a given that there are people of various races, ethnicities, orientation, etc that are regularly excluded from hiring consideration.  By extending our hiring search to include them, we can find people that are more qualified. The loss of DEI-Phobic companies is my gain.”

Cuban wrote that he made a mistake about equality in his own business, saying he thought “treating people equally does not mean treating them the same.”

“Equity is a core principle of business,” he wrote. “Put your employees in a position to succeed. Recognize their differences and play to their strengths where ever possible. It is not a hard concept. But it is not easy to implement. Most workforces don’t have the depth of management to do this well. When it’s not done well it can create tension and resentment.”

On inclusion, Cuban believes “great companies create environments that reduce unnecessary stress of their employees,” which should, in turn, create higher productivity levels. He also compared DEI to health care. He wrote most companies see DEI as a “hug expense” and have no time to focus on it.

“When anything that impacts all of your employees is pretty much a check list item to the CEO, there is a good chance that its not going work well and you are going to have employees who are not comfortable for a lot of different reasons. Which in turn creates resentment towards DEI policies and training. Which in turn makes it harder on the managers trying to implement it.

“When companies do DEI well, you see a well run, successful company.”
