DJ Uiagalelei will transfer to Florida State, play for third college team

0

The Florida State Seminoles may have been snubbed by the College Football Playoff committee, but they landed their quarterback for 2024 on Monday.

DJ Uiagalelei told ESPN he committed to Florida State from Oregon State, the third team for Uiagalelei in his college career.

“That’s where I wanted to go the whole time,” Uiagalelei told ESPN. “I didn’t talk to many other programs. For the most part, I was locked in at Florida State. I appreciated them throughout the whole process. I wanted to be a Seminole. I wanted to be part of the program. I’m just blessed that Coach [Mike] Norvell wanted to take me. I can’t wait to get there and get to work.”

GEORGIA’S KIRBY SMART TAKES ISSUE WITH FLORIDA STATE OPT-OUTS AFTER 60-POINT WIN: ‘IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED’

Uiagalelei also considered entering the 2024 NFL Draft and did not visit any other schools besides Florida State.

The quarterback situation at FSU has become a mess over the last several weeks following the season-ending injury to Jordan Travis.

Travis suffered a leg injury against North Alabama in the second-to-last game of the regular season. Backup quarterback Tate Rodemaker started against Florida to end the regular season but was forced to miss the ACC Championship Game against Louisville with a concussion.

True freshman Brock Glenn got the start against Louisville, a game the Seminoles won, 16-6.

Due to the quarterback situation, the CFP committee left Florida State out of the playoff despite the Seminoles going 13-0 and winning the ACC. Florida State became the first undefeated Power 5 conference champion to not make the CFP.

“Florida State is a different team without Jordan Travis,” CFP selection committee chair Boo Corrigan said. “One of the things we do consider is player availability, and our job is to rank the best teams, and in the final decision looking at that, it was Alabama at 4 and Florida State at 5.”

Uiagalelei began his college career at Clemson before transferring to Oregon State after his junior year.

In his lone year in Corvallis, Uiagalelei threw for 2,638 yards, 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions while adding six touchdowns on the ground.

Start the year with a clean inbox

Email stinks. OK, it’s not that bad, but I’d much rather get things done in person, in a video meeting or over chat. My rule of thumb: If we get into an email back and forth, I’m calling you instead.

That said, email has its place and you might as well make your inbox as useful as it can be. For me, that starts with my annual ritual: Clearing out all the old mail from the year before. Give it a try.

SMARTPHONE TRICKS EVERY IPHONE AND ANDROID USER SHOULD KNOW

Try my free daily tech newsletter, The Current. Written by me, not AI — and an email you’ll actually want to read! Join 500K smart people who read it.

The trick is simple: Archive your inbox

You’ll be surprised at how effective this is at giving you back some digital headspace.

A man wearing a suit pointing his finger at a semi-clear email envelope on the screen

Email spoofing consists of scammers forging sender addresses that appears similar to yours, allowing them to bypass spam filters and distribute harmful malware or request money from unsuspecting victims. (CyberGuy.com)

So, what is email archiving? Basically, this keeps a record of everything you’ve sent and received — so you’ll always have a copy of any of your messages and attachments — but they won’t be sitting in your inbox.

Sure, you can file all your emails away into carefully sorted folders, but what are the chances you’re actually going to keep up with that level of organization? Archiving is a great gift to give yourself going into the new year. Plus, it’s an easy New Year’s Resolution to keep. Just click a few buttons, and your life is already easier!

Follow these steps to archive in Gmail

  • First, open your Gmail account on a computer and click the Inbox folder on the left.
  • Above your emails, there’s an empty checkbox. Click the small arrow next to it, and choose All. This selects only the conversations visible on the screen.
  • To select all your emails, click Select all (number) conversations in Inbox. Then, hit the Archive icon (folder with a downward pointing arrow).

Gmail will take some time to process your request. Be patient. You may have to do this step a few times to get everything.

FIVE DUMB TECH SECURITY MISTAKES YOU’RE MAKING

Once you’ve archived a message, you can hit All Mail to the left, right under Inbox and your other email folders to find it. Your best bet is to search by a term you know was in the email or by the sender.

Using Apple Mail? Here’s what to do

  • Open the Mail app on your Mac. Look through your inbox or other folders and find those emails you want to stash away. Click on an email to select it, or if you’ve got a bunch, hold down the Command key and click on each one you want to archive.
  • Got an ‘Archive’ button (looks like a little box) on the toolbar? Just click that, and you’re golden. No button? No problem. Click ‘Message’ at the top, then choose ‘Archive’ from the dropdown. If you’re all about shortcuts, just hit Control + Command + A and those emails will zip right into your archive.
  • Where did they go? Head over to the ‘Archive’ folder. It’s in the sidebar under ‘Mailboxes.’ Got more than one email account? Each one has its own Archive folder.

When you need to find those emails again, just click on that ‘Archive’ folder anytime. All your archived emails are there, ready when you are.

How to archive emails in Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook doesn’t put archived messages into a separate folder. Instead, they’ll go straight to a data file you can access whenever you want.

  • Select File > Cleanup Tools > Archive, then hit Archive this folder and all subfolders. Choose the folder you want to archive. In this case, your inbox.
  • Under Archive items older than, enter your date. For example, you may want to archive everything before 2012. Then, check the box that says Include items with “Do not AutoArchive.” Click OK, and you’re good to go.

You’ll see emails disappear from your inbox and subfolders. Now they’ll be under the Archives heading.

2023: A YEAR OF INNOVATION AND DISRUPTION IN TECH

Your inbox should be clean as a whistle

Now that you know my secret, your inbox is sure to look a whole lot cleaner to start the new year. Worried you missed something? Here’s my tip: If it’s really important, that person will email you again.

As a side note, remember that even if you archive emails, they can be subpoenaed for legal cases. We don’t give legal advice, so it’s best to consult a lawyer if you have any questions about this.

Use Yahoo? I have steps for archiving here on the website.

Packers’ Aaron Jones struck in face during postgame scuffle with Vikings

0

The Green Bay Packers defeated the Minnesota Vikings on “Sunday Night Football,” giving the Packers control of their playoff destiny with one week remaining in the regular season.

Green Bay running back Aaron Jones rushed for 120 yards, and quarterback Jordan Love threw for three touchdowns in a 33-10 victory.

If the Packers can defeat the Chicago Bears in Week 18, they will get the NFC’s final wild-card spot.

While Jones was key in the massive victory for Green Bay, the seventh-year running back also played a role in deescalating a postgame altercation between the two teams.

The NBC broadcast caught Jones taking a shot to the face as Vikings cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. and an inactive Packers’ player exchanged words.

As a shove occurred between the two players, Jones caught a stray to the face, though it’s unclear who made contact with Jones. Jones then pushed Booth away from the skirmish.

“We were walking out to shake hands, and I see one of our players having an interaction with a Vikings player, who just finished playing, and they get in each other’s face and going at it, and start shoving, so I just kind of tried to deescalate, move them to the sideline, and we were good after that,” Jones said in his postgame interview with NBC’s Melissa Stark, according to the New York Post.

Green Bay jumped all over the Vikings in the first half, taking a 23-3 lead into halftime after two first-half turnovers for Minnesota.

The Packers entered the season kicking off a new era after trading four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets.

Love became the quarterback of the future after being drafted by Green Bay in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft and sitting behind Rodgers for two seasons.

On Sunday, Love completed 24 of 33 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns. On the season, Love has completed 63.1% of his passes for 3,843 yards, while throwing 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

“He’s playing at an incredibly high level. I’m super happy for him, because he’s put in a ton of work to get to this point,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said. “I really think the sky is the limit for us. He’s just showing a glimpse of what he can ultimately be.”

Shirtless Kirk Cousins, son lead ‘Skol’ chant before Vikings loss to Packers

Kirk Cousins hasn’t played since Week 8, but the injured four-time Pro Bowl quarterback is very much involved in the Minnesota Vikings’ season.

Before the start of the Sunday night matchup between the Vikings and the Green Bay Packers, Cousins and his son, Cooper, led the Minnesota crowd in their traditional pregame chant.

“There were some things execution-wise, some things progression-wise, just some play calls here and there that we just had to get everybody, give ourselves a chance, especially with where the score was at half, just to make sure we got a premier execution in at least the process,” Minnesota head coach Kevin O’Connell said.

Hall completed just five of 10 pass attempts for 67 yards, throwing an interception and losing a fumble.

“If I was the coach, I would have made the same decision,” Hall said after the game.

Minnesota still has a slight chance of making the playoffs, but will need to defeat the Detroit Lions in Week 18 and have multiple teams lose their final games of the season.

O’Connell said the team will evaluate who will get the starting nod under center against the Lions.

Steelers win over Seahawks extends Mike Tomlin’s remarkable streak

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin continues to put up successful seasons.

With Pittsburgh’s 30-23 win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17, Tomlin is assured his 17th consecutive non-losing season as an NFL head coach.

The NFL record is held by legendary Dallas Cowboys head coach Tom Landry, who went 21 straight seasons without a losing record. New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick went without a losing season from 2001-2019.

Pittsburgh’s win over Seattle moved them to 9-7 on the year heading into the final week of the 2023 NFL season.

To make the postseason, the Steelers will need to defeat the Baltimore Ravens in Week 18 and have either the Jacksonville Jaguars or Buffalo Bills lose.

Pittsburgh took down Seattle with a punishing running game, rushing for 202 yards on the day. Third-year running back Najee Harris ran for a season-high 122 yards and scored two touchdowns.

“We got to win out. This is kind of playoffs for us, so us executing right now is kind of the biggest thing,” Harris said.

Jaylen Warren added 75 yards and a score on 13 rushing attempts.

“I thought he was determined, as was Jaylen,” Tomlin said of Harris. “I thought we got appropriate efforts from all parties involved and not to minimize it, it was just a critical time, and so if you’re a competitor you’re going to be at your best.”

Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase takes credit for second quarter dustup with Chiefs: ‘I started it off’

0

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase was talking before, during and after he lost to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

In the week leading up to the game, Chase said Kansas City didn’t “have a Jalen Ramsey” in its secondary, saying he was just “adding fire to the fuel” to the rivalry.

During the second quarter of Sunday’s 25-17 Kansas City win, Chase was called for an unnecessary roughness penalty after he got into a shoving match with Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.

CHIEFS STAR TRAVIS KELCE REVEALS NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION: ‘I’M DONE WITH IT’

After the game, Chase kept talking.

“Just trash-talking. Can’t handle it,” Chase said after the game when asked about the scuffle with Sneed.

“I started it off,” Chase added when asked who instigated the trash-talking. “Their whole defense was mad at me. It started at the beginning on the game.  You’ve seen it. Everybody’s seen it. That’s just what I like to do.”

Chase also appeared to double down on his criticism of Kansas City’s secondary, saying the Chiefs’ defense has a “good upfront. That’s it.”

The star wide receiver had three catches for 41 yards as Cincinnati dropped to 8-8 on the season and was eliminated from playoff contention.

“We had some words during the game,” Sneed said after the game, according to The Kansas City Star. “But, you know, check the stats.”

It was a frustrating season for Cincinnati after losing quarterback Joe Burrow to a season-ending wrist injury in mid-November.

The Bengals won three straight to move to 8-6 before dropping their last two games.

“He’s one of the best players on planet Earth,” head coach Zac Taylor said of Burrow, “but that’s just part of life. And you know, you have to be able to deal with it and move on. We’re not the only team that deals with losing players. I’m proud of the way this team continued to fight. Proud of the way Jake [Browning] stepped in and continued to lead. This team did not lay down for anybody. It has not gone our way the last two weeks, but that doesn’t mean I’m not proud of what these guys did.”

Kansas City secured their eighth consecutive AFC West title with the Week 17 victory.

“I guess it’s a little bit embarrassing, but not too embarrassing to where I can’t talk about it,” Gordon said, according to The Denver Post. “I don’t drink a lot during the season. I probably had a little bit too much eggnog. I was kind of roughhousing with my dog, and I think my dog got a little excited and just basically chomped down. Gave me a bite. And I was basically wrestling him off of me, and then he bit my hand.

“For lack of better words, I was (messing) around with my dog, and when you (mess) around, you find out.”

The Nuggets initially announced Gordon’s injury on Dec. 27 without a timeline for his return.

“We have his back. We love him. We’re here for him. So, whenever he’s able to come back, we’re going to open our arms up and embrace him. I told all the guys to make sure they’re reaching out to him, to make sure he’s never feeling like he’s on an island,” Nuggets head coach Mike Malone said last week.

Denver won its first game without Gordon against the Memphis Grizzlies but lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday. The loss to the Thunder was the largest margin of defeat at home for Denver since 2019.

Due to Gordon’s busy schedule, his 4-year-old Rottweiler is cared for by his family and has not been trained “how I need him to be.”
