Bucs remain atop NFC South standings after beating Packers

0

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers used Baker Mayfield’s four touchdown passes and 381 yards to defeat the Green Bay Packers, 34-20, on Sunday and keep their standing as the top team in the NFC South.

The Bucs are now 7-7 on the season, while the Packers dropped to to 6-8.

This game had playoff implications written all over it as the Bucs were in position as the NFC South’s leader despite owning a 6-7 record. The Packers had the final wild-card spot with the same record due to the Detroit Lions’ 10-4 record atop the NFC North.

But while Packers quarterback Jordan Love had a solid game, going 29 of 39 for 284 yards with two touchdowns, Mayfield was just better with his delivery to seven different receivers, four of whom had a touchdown.

The first came after Love found Tucker Kraft for the first score of the game following a Bucs fumble. Mayfield responded with a seven-play drive that ended with Mike Evans hauling in a 19-yard pass to make it 10-7 in favor of Tampa Bay.

Then it was a back-and-forth bout in the second half, starting with the Bucs finding the end zone thanks to Rachaad White sprinting 26 yards to score.

Love followed it up with a strike to rookie Jayden Reed while he was on the run. That went for 17 yards to cut the Bucs’ lead to just three, 20-17.

However, this was a game of response from the Bucs all day long, and Mayfield did it again on the ensuing drive.

This time it was Ko Kieft, the unlikely tight end running in the flat and getting over the right pylon to score a touchdown.

The Packers were able to make it a one-score game with a field goal on the next drive, and they needed a Tampa Bay stop to get the ball back to Love. Instead, Mayfield needed just six more plays to find the colored paint again.

David Moore caught a tight pass from Mayfield and took it 52 yards to the house. Once the Packers fumbled on the ensuing drive, and the Bucs recovered, it was game over once they killed the rest of the clock.

While four different Bucs receivers found the end zone, the leading man for them all game was Chris Godwin. The Penn State product had 155 yards on 10 catches, clearly showcasing chemistry that the Packers’ defense couldn’t deflect.

White also finished another game with more than 100 scrimmage yards, totaling 89 rushing yards and 50 receiving yards.

For the Packers, rookie Dontayvion Wicks had six catches for 97 yards to lead Green Bay, and Aaron Jones’ return to the backfield saw 53 rushing yards on 13 carries.

Dolphins eviscerate Jets as Zach Wilson leaves game early with concuscsion

Raheem Mostert scored two more touchdowns to set Miami’s single-season record with 20, Tua Tagovailoa threw for 224 yards and a score and the Dolphins shut out the New York Jets 30-0 on Sunday without star receiver Tyreek Hill.

Mostert walked into the end zone untouched on a 2-yard run that put AFC East-leading Miami (10-4) ahead 7-0 and gave the ninth-year running back his 17th rushing touchdown of the season — one more than Ricky Williams, who set the record in 2002. The score was also Mostert’s 19th overall, which broke the team record of 18 set by Mark Clayton in 1984.

Tagovailoa was 21 of 24 with an 87.5% completion percentage and a 60-yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Waddle. He was replaced by Mike White with 8:32 remaining and the Dolphins up by 30.

A week after Zach Wilson threw for over 300 yards against Houston, the Jets’ third-year quarterback’s day was cut short when he left late in the second quarter with a concussion. New York (5-9) was shut out for the first time since losing 26-0 at Denver in Week 3 of the 2021 season.

The loss, combined with wins by Houston and Cleveland, eliminated the Jets from playoff contention for the 13th straight season — and severely lessened the chances of Aaron Rodgers returning this season from a torn Achilles tendon. Rodgers has said one of the conditions of his comeback would be New York remaining in contention.

Hill, who entered Week 15 as the NFL’s leading receiver, missed the first game of his Dolphins tenure after injuring his left ankle against the Tennessee Titans last Monday night. He has 1,542 yards receiving and was on pace for the first 2,000-yard receiving season in league history.

Hill’s absence made room for a standout game from speedy third-year receiver Waddle, who had a season-high 142 yards on eight catches.

Waddle got behind Jets cornerback D.J. Reed for a 60-yard touchdown catch from Tagovailoa in the second quarter that put the Dolphins ahead 17-0. Mostert then gave the Dolphins a 24-point halftime lead with his second touchdown of the day, a 1-yard score in which he was again untouched.

Wilson had spent much of the afternoon running from a domineering Miami defensive front that sacked him four times, one of which resulted in a fumble that gave the Dolphins the ball at the Jets 1 and led to Mostert’s first score.

Wilson was 4 of 11 with 26 yards before being replaced by Trevor Siemian, who was 14 of 26 with 110 yards and two interceptions to safety Brandon Jones.

Despite missing several defensive starters, the Dolphins limited the Jets to just 4 yards in the first half, the fewest yards allowed in the first half of a game since Dec. 13, 2015, when Denver limited the Raiders to minus-12 yards in the first half.

With the win, the Dolphins completed the season sweep of their division rivals less than a month after blowing out the Jets in Week 12, and bounced back from blowing a 14-point fourth-quarter lead Monday against the Titans.

Aurory’s USDC pool drained on Arbitrum’s DEX Camelot

Solana-based gaming ecosystem Aurory was reportedly breached on Dec. 17, resulting in a drop of nearly 80% in liquidity of the AURY-USDC pool on the decentralized exchange (DEX) Carmelot.

According to unconfirmed reports on X (formerly Twitter), the exploit targeted Aurory’s SyncSpace bridge on Arbitrum’s native DEX Camelot around 13:00 UTC, reducing the liquidity of the AURY-USDC pool to roughly $312,000 from $1.5 million.

Cointelegraph reached out to Aurory’s team, but has yet to receive a response.

SyncSpace acts as Aurory’s bridge, allowing users to switch items between on-chain and off-chain with a single transaction. It enables assets earned in-game that are initially off-chain to be moved to the blockchain when the user chooses to DeSync them.

In a blog post introducing the feature in October 2022, Aurory’s team deemed a cross-SyncSpace hack impossible since the technology requires signatures to Sync/DeSync assets.

In a thread on X, Aurory’s team member Tim explained that tokens belonging to the team were stolen and immediately sold. “We’ve been buying back the tokens as we’re investigating what happened,” he said, adding that a post-mortem would be released after an audit is completed.

AURY is trading at $1.23 at the time of writing, 11% down in the previous 24 hours. The attack knocked the token price to $1.13. “The exploiter oppenheimer’d the chart, bottom buyers did 5x in 45m and now the whole pool is whack with very little liquidity,” a user wrote.

The weekend was marked by other security incidents affecting the crypto industry. On Dec. 16, trading platform NFT Trade experienced an exploit in two of its old smart contracts, allowing nonfungible tokens (NFTs) worth nearly $3 million to be stolen. The majority of the tokens were returned after a 10% bounty was paid to the attacker.
