Jimmy Johnson emotional as he talks entering Cowboys Ring of Honor

0

Jimmy Johnson was inducted into the Dallas Cowboys’ Ring of Honor on Saturday, about 30 years after he led the team to a Super Bowl championship and then parted ways.

Years of tension between team owner Jerry Jones and Johnson were officially put to rest as the legendary head coach got to see his name up on AT&T Stadium next to some of the greats who graced the organization over the years.

Johnson appeared in his usual spot on “FOX NFL Sunday” and got a little choked up talking about the honor.

“I guess you can say it’s kind of a final chapter,” Johnson said, “because you go into the College and the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the Ring of Honor, the University of Miami Ring of Honor, Dallas Cowboys, but what made it so special, the whole journey and last night – I had my family there, my best friends there and my players and my coaches …”

Michael Strahan and Terry Bradshaw comforted Johnson as he fought back tears.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson also dropped by and gave the former Miami Hurricanes coach his letter of intent. He mentioned how influential the coach had been in his life.

Jimmy Johnson joined Tom Landry as the only coaches alongside the 19 players and two executives in the exclusive Cowboys honor.

“Thank you, Jerry Jones, for bringing me to the Dallas Cowboys,” he told the crowd.

Johnson left the Cowboys after the 1993 season amid a high-level split with Jones. One of the theories over the abrupt end was a tussle over who should get the credit for the turnaround.

Dallas was 1-15 in 1989 – the year Jones bought the Cowboys and hired Johnson – to the first back-to-back Super Bowl titles in franchise history in 1992 and 1993.

“I think we’re past who gets credit,” Johnson said. “The two of us, working together, made history. When I say working together, we talked every single day. I don’t ever recall us having a difference of opinion.”

Johnson would coach the Miami Dolphins later, but he would ultimately retire and head to the TV side.

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb put together an incredible game during the team’s 20-19 win over the Detroit Lions on Saturday, setting two franchise records.

Lamb had 13 catches for 227 yards and started the scoring for Dallas in the first quarter with a 92-yard touchdown catch from Dak Prescott.

Lamb has now tallied 122 catches for 1,651 yards and 10 touchdowns this season with one game left on the schedule. He passed Michael Irvin for the most catches and receiving yards in a season. Irvin had 111 for 1,603 yards in 1995.

He then posted on his Instagram Stories that he was chosen for a random drug test.

“Waste no time huh? @nfl,” Lamb wrote on his Stories.

“Remarkable,” Prescott said of Lamb, via the team’s website. “That’s who CeeDee Lamb is. Tonight, what a great opportunity for him to have the game that he had – understanding that it was coming in this game with records on the line – and I wasn’t aware about them until you guys told me, but I assured you he’d get that.

“The yards, yards after catch, getting open after the 2.3 [seconds], beating man coverage, getting into the right spots in zones, he can do it all.”

Prescott added that it was “only the beginning.”

“I would like to announce the return date for myself, the ‘Notorious’ Conor McGregor. The greatest comeback of all time will take place in Las Vegas for international fight week on June 29th.… And the opponent, Michael Chandler. And the weight, Mr. Chandler, 185 pounds,” he said.

The two were team captains for UFC’s most recent season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

McGregor has been out of action since 2022 when he broke his leg in a fight against Dustin Poirier. While he recovered from the injury, he was out of the USADA testing pool. He re-entered the pool as the UFC and the USADA ended their anti-doping agreement.

United Football League born out of USFL-XFL merger, 1st matchup revealed

0

Details of the USFL and XFL merger were announced Sunday on “FOX NFL Sunday” ahead of the first swath of afternoon NFL games.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Dany Garcia, two of the top executives for the XFL, said the new spring football league will be called the United Football League.

“After an incredible two seasons that the USFL has had and an incredible XFL season last year, the USFL and XFL are merging to create the United Football League, the UFL,” Garcia said.

The inaugural UFL season begins on March 30 between the USFL champion Birmingham Stallions and the XFL champions Arlington Renegades.

“We wanted to join forces for a few reasons,” Johnson said. “I think, number one, to grow the game of football and it’s a game that we all love. And create opportunities for players as we all know first hand how important that is and also, deliver for the fans.

“Think about it, this is 30 years in spring football of starting and stopping and starting and stopping. This merger between USFL and XFL, it feels like we got a shot to establish that spring football is here to stay.”

The Rock said fans should expect a hard-nosed, intense and passionate football from the players in the league. Garcia added that both leagues shared a common vision – “unleashing the dreams that football makes possible.”

The league announced that former XFL CEO and president Russ Brandon will serve as UFL president and Daryl Johnston, the former USFL president of football operations, will lead football operations.

“FOX is football, and the success of the USFL has proven that there’s a bright future for spring football,” FOX Sports CEO and executive producer Eric Shanks said in a statement. “The opportunity to bring together our two leagues – each with a commitment to advancing broadcast practices, rule innovations and the community – only furthers the potential of the United Football League and solidifies its spot on the sports calendar.”

USFL CHAMPIONSHIP 2023: BIRMINGHAM STALLIONS EARN SECOND CONSECUTIVE TITLE LED BY LEAGUE MVP

The USFL launched in 2022 and featured eight teams – Michigan Panthers, New Jersey Generals, Philadelphia Stars, Pittsburgh Maulers, Birmingham Stallions, Houston Gamblers, Tampa Bay Bandits and New Orleans Breakers. In 2023, the Bandits became the Memphis Showboats.

The league started in a bubble atmosphere with most of the games being played in Birmingham and the championship being played in Canton, Ohio.

In 2023, teams shared stadiums with Ford Field in Detroit, Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Protective Stadium in Birmingham and Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis being the bases.

The Stallions won back-to-back titles and the league saw several players on NFL rosters over the last two years.

The XFL was rebooted in 2020 and became a top spring league until the effects of the coronavirus pandemic not only canceled the season but forced the sale of the property altogether. The Rock and Garcia spearheaded the purchase of the league and got it back up in 2023.

NFL officiating crew in controversial Lions-Cowboys game may be downgraded ahead of playoffs: report

0

The officiating crew that worked the game between the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys could be downgraded before the postseason over the controversial call at the end of the game, according to an NFL insider.

Brad Allen and his crew drew the ire of the NFL world when a Lions go-ahead 2-point conversion late in the game was negated over a penalty. The discrepancy came over which offensive lineman reported as eligible. Taylor Decker said he was the player who reported as eligible but Dan Skipper was deemed to be the person.

NFL insider Adam Schefter appeared on ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown” and explained the consequences of the penalty.

“This has generated an awful lot of reaction around the league as you might expect. And I think teams have found fault with both sides here,” Schefter said on the program. “They think the Lions tried to trick the Cowboys and instead tricked the officials by sending three offensive linemen over to the official when they say only one lineman should’ve been reporting.

“And then the officials did miss the call. Brad Allen, got the wrong player reporting. And that’s been a continuation of a string of high-profile misses from the Brad Allen crew this year.”

FROM OUTKICK: VIKINGS TIGHT END T.J. HOCKENSON EXPECTED TO MISS START OF 2024; TREVOR LAWRENCE NEEDS HELP TO PLAY

Schefter pointed to a series of other controversial calls around the NFL in which Allen’s crew was officiating.

“You remember earlier in the year, there was pass interference with (Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver) Marquez Valdes-Scantling that was not called – the same Brad Allen crew in this game where the (Green Bay Packers) defensive back goes over his shoulder. There was the pass interference call at Atlanta with the Saints that was not called when clearly it was pass interference that influenced that game. This was a roughing the passer penalty when (Cleveland Browns linebacker) Za’Darius Smith was fined but it was not called. And there’s one thread that ties together all those calls – it is the same Brad Allen crew time and time again.”

Schefter said it would be a “surprise” if anyone from Allen’s crew reaches the postseason.

TOM BRADY REVEALS HE NEARLY UNRETIRED IN MAY BUT DIDN’T BECAUSE OF 1 REASON

“Now, you will see mixed crews in the postseason and clearly this crew will be downgraded and it will be a surprise to see some of them reach the postseason,” Schefter said. “But that’s a decision the league will have to reach.

“There will still be plenty of fallout from a decision that now very likely will influence how the NFC seeds are laid out and in the second round because Detroit right now seems locked into the third seed. Last night’s call could mean that the Lions in the divisional playoff round would play the NFC East winner rather than hosting that divisional playoff game.”

Head coach Dan Campbell was agitated after the game and suggested that he talked about this scenario with officials before the game.

“I don’t want to talk about it,” he said. “I explain everything pregame to a tee, OK? I did that.”

Allen explained the penalty in the pool report.

“That conversation is where (Skipper) reports to me, and I then go to the defensive team, and I say to them ‘(Skipper) has reported as an eligible receiver,’ so they will be aware of who has reported and then I return to my position,” Allen said. “That was the conversation with the defensive line.”

‘It needs to be fixed’

0

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart led the Bulldogs to an absolute blowout in the Orange Bowl against Florida State on Saturday night, 63-3.

While Smart was happy with the win, how Georgia got the victory was something that didn’t sit right with him. Florida State came into the game missing at least a dozen of their key players because of opt outs and the transfer portal.

Smart said it was a problem becoming all too common in the sport.

“People need to see what happened tonight, and they need to fix this,” he said. “It needs to be fixed. It’s very unfortunate that they, who have a good football team, are in the position they’re in. Everybody can say it’s their fault. Everybody can say that we had our guys and they didn’t have their guys. I can listen to all that. But college football has got to decide what they want.

“It’s really unfortunate for those kids on that side of the sideline that had to play in that game that didn’t have their full arsenal. And it affected the game, 100%.”

Florida State was 13-0 going into the game and won its conference championship but was left out of the College Football Playoff. Seminoles coach Mikie Norvell suggested that was part of the reason why players were quick to opt out.

“Every situation is different,” Norvell said, via ESPN. “Ours was unique, something that’s never happened in college football. Ultimately, I think there was a lot of things that made it extremely challenging. I fully believe that if we would’ve come up short in the (ACC) championship game, it might’ve been a little different.

“It was hard choices for a lot of the young men that were on our team. We were hurt…. When you do the things that our guys did throughout the year and the way that they responded, the way they fought, the way that they just pulled together, it hurt when we were not selected.”

NASCAR put out a post on X.

“The NASCAR family mourns the loss of NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Cale Yarborough, who passed away at the age of 84,” the organization wrote.

Reports of Yarborough’s declining health first surfaced in April, when John Dodson, the vice president of business alliances and NASCAR at Universal Technical Institute, offered his thoughts and prayers for the Yarborough family. Details around Yarborough’s apparent ailment were scarce.

Yarborough put together 83 wins and 319 top 10 finishes during his NASCAR career. He is one of two drivers in NASCAR history to win three consecutive championships. He won the Daytona 500 four times and he is sixth on the all-time list of NASCAR Cup Series victories.

He set the modern record for most poles in a season with 14. He finished his career with 69 poles overall.

Nothing Can Stop Japanese Singer-Songwriter Nishioka as he Conquers The Charts

0

His popularity continues to grow on a Global basis, but especially in the USA. His unique melodies and voice coupled with his music that goes straight to the heart, is attracting fans from every age group.

Japan, January 1, 2024, Nishioka continues to surprise his fans in the USA. His music and personality have captured the hearts of many. ISHIKORO, one of his most popular songs has attracted the most attention. The fact that KISS FM 104.7 gave a Top Ranking to several songs from his new album drop – ISHIKORO, is testament to his unbridled growth.

iTunes Top 100 from the UK gave Nishioka spots #1 & #2 to Torikago and Ishikoro. Also, iTunes gave their Number One Song in the UK as Kodoku No Hana from the Ishikoro album. Within him is a commonality in the music of singer-songwriters. That commonality is that their music is born from their upbringing and roots.

Recently, Nishioka spoke about his new album “Ishikoro”, “The first song is called ‘Restart’. It literally means a fresh start in life. Starting life over means starting everything from scratch. If you compare it to Dragon Quest (RPG game), you have grown up to level 50, but there are reasons why you can’t overcome various difficulties and you have unfinished business, but you can’t go back anymore, so you have to delete your data and start over from the initial data again. It would be strange if the protagonist was suddenly strong or cool despite being initial data. I am someone who went back to the initial data, so the cover art of ISHIKORO is meant to represent myself with only the initial equipment.”

“The song TORIKAGO is included in the album, and the lyrics sound like a message to people who are dominated by society. TORIKAGO may be heartbreaking for people who have some kind of stress (domination) in their hearts, but for people who have never had any stress since birth and have lived happily ever after without worrying about anything, this song will sound like a tiresome sermon, lol.”

The ISHIKORO album is 10 songs out of the thousands he has written.

2) The rise of robots

Now, we can’t talk about 2023 without mentioning robots. We’re talking dog-like robots that can run, jump and perform tricks, security robots that can patrol and detect threats, bartender robots that can mix and serve drinks and massage robots that can make you feel relaxed.

Dog-like robots

Dog-like robots are incredible machines that can run, jump, climb and even dance with impressive agility and lifelike movements.

2023 innovations 3

Robot dog  (Boston Dynamics)

While Boston Dynamics’ dogs have primarily been used for research and entertainment purposes, they’ve also caught the attention of law enforcement agencies worldwide, including the NYPD.

Security robots

Security robots are the new guardians of our safety. They are smart, vigilant and efficient. They can monitor and patrol any area, from malls to airports to schools. They can also detect and respond to suspicious activity, such as intruders, fires or accidents. They can also communicate with other security robots and human authorities to coordinate their actions.

WHAT IS CHATGPT?

2023 innovations 4

Security robot  (Cobalt Robotics)

The main reason a lot of office buildings are beginning to use these security robots over human beings is that it saves a lot of money, roughly $79,000 per year, according to a report from Forrester Research. Although they can work longer hours and do multiple tasks, I don’t know that I would trust this machine with any kind of weaponry in case of a malfunction.

Watch the security robot patrol

Bartender robots

Bartender robots are the new stars of the hospitality industry. They can mix and serve cocktails to mocktails and are fast and friendly. That is the case with KIME, a humanoid bartending kiosk with the capacity to serve a wide array of beverages and snacks around the clock.

Kurt "CyberGuy" Knutsson

Massage robots

Massage robots are the new experts of wellness. They are gentle, soothing and relaxing. They can massage any part of your body, from your head to your toes. They can also adjust the pressure, speed and temperature of their touch to suit your needs. They can also play calming music and use aromatherapy or meditation to enhance your experience.

2023 INNOVATIONS 6

Phill massage robot  (Philonlabs)

However, not all massage robots are created equal. Some of them stand out from the rest, such as Phill, an AI-powered massage robot that debuted in 2023.  It promises an unparalleled massage experience tailored to individual needs and preferences. Its main selling point is that it is designed to reside right next to your bed, merging the best of design and functionality.

3) Air taxis, flying sports cars and boats that glide above water: The changing technologies of transportation

There were also some fantastic innovations in transportation. We saw the world’s first fully autonomous passenger-carrying air taxi receive airworthiness certification. A flying sports car called Switchblade takes its maiden flight and the Candela P-12, an electric boat, flies above the water.

Autonomous air taxis

Autonomous air taxis are the new mode of urban mobility. They can fly you from one point to another in minutes, avoiding traffic and congestion. They can also take off and land vertically, saving space and time. They can also operate without a pilot, using advanced sensors and algorithms to navigate and avoid obstacles.

2023 innovations 7

China-based Ehang has become the world’s first company to receive airworthiness certification for its fully autonomous, passenger-carrying air taxis. Ehang’s EH216-S air taxis are electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft that can carry up to two passengers or 600 pounds of cargo. They are powered by 16 electric rotors and can fly at speeds of up to 80 mph and distances of up to 18 miles.

Watch the air taxi fly

Flying sports cars

Flying sports cars are the new thrill of personal transportation. They are sleek, powerful and versatile. They can travel on the road like a normal car or fly like a plane. They can switch between modes in seconds, using retractable wings and propellers.

2023 innovations 8

Flying Switchblade sports car  (Samson Sky)

One of the most innovative examples of flying sports cars is aircraft maker Samson Sky’s invention of the world’s first flying car, Switchblade. It can transform from a three-wheeled street-legal roadster to a two-seat aircraft in minutes. It has a retractable wing and tail that fold into the body when driving on the road. It can seat two people and has a luggage compartment that can fit two golf bags and/or two overnight bags. Recently, Switchblade completed its first flight in Moses Lake, Washington, at the Grant Country International Airport.

Electric flying craft

Electric boats are the new way of water transportation. They are eco-friendly, quiet and efficient. They can glide on the water like a normal boat or fly above the water like a hovercraft.

2023 INNOVATIONS 9

Electric flying boat  (Candela)

One of the most innovative examples of electric boats that can fly above the water is the Candela P-12, a Swedish creation that combines speed, efficiency and sustainability. It uses hydrofoils, which are wing-like structures that lift the hull out of the water when the boat reaches a certain speed. This reduces the drag force from the water and allows the boat to consume less energy and travel faster.

Tom Brady reveals he nearly unretired in May but didn’t because of 1 reason

0

Tom Brady shared on social media Sunday that he nearly unretired in May but didn’t end up pulling the trigger because his friends threw him a retirement party.

Brady posted a handful of photos from 2023, including spending time with his family and children, whether it was in Africa or on the basketball court. His caption not only included a heartfelt goodbye to the year in which he decided to retire “for good” but also the year he nearly came back again.

“Looking back on 2023 grateful for every moment,” he wrote. “Cherishing the highs, learning from the lows, and looking forward to what’s coming next. I’m blessed to have family and friends filled with so much love, joy, and compassion surrounding me.

“As you get older, you realize that this is really the only thing that matters, and I’ll never take these people for granted. Hug your kids, call your parents, tell your friends that you love them, and let’s all help make 2024 a kinder and happier year for everyone in our lives.”

In parentheses, he wrote the last bit.

“The only downside to 2023 was when I was about to unretire in May and my friends threw a surprise retirement party. Kind of forced my hand.”

It would have been the second time Brady came back. He retired after the 2021 season, but a few weeks later he announced he was returning to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Earlier this year, he posted a heartfelt goodbye to the NFL though rumors circulated weekly that he was thinking about possibly returning to the league. It never happened.
