4 Enlightening Tips To Planning an Awesome Room Addition

0
planning a room addition

Planning a room addition can be an exciting yet daunting task. Whether you’re looking to create extra space for a growing family or simply want to expand your living area, careful planning is essential. In this blog post, we will share four valuable tips to help you navigate the process of planning a room addition. From considering your budget and desired functionality to finding a reliable contractor, we’ve got you covered.

In this day and age, with the current economic conditions, it may make more sense to bear the expense of a room addition. The family is getting bigger, a relative may be moving in, and you just need some more space. A room addition can add value to your home, but if done incorrectly, will have a negative effect.

Ever see a room addition that didn’t come out right? Or worse, never completed. Very often, a homeowner runs out of funds before the project is completed. This is a sure sign of bad planning. Try to sell your home with an unfinished room addition. Not a pleasant thought.

What makes the most sense is to take on this project with a great degree of discipline. Keep tight reigns on every aspect of the job. Start out by figuring out a realistic budget, but include room for error. These kinds of projects can easily go over budget, so be forewarned.

So, let’s dive right in and discover the key steps to successfully planning a room addition:

* Check Local Building Codes: Good idea to get to know the people in the Building Department. These are the people that will be granting you a Building Permit, and making Inspections. You need to go there with a copy of your survey, if you can dig it up, and find out if a home addition is possible on your lot, and if there are any size restrictions.

* Make A Preliminary Room Layout Sketch: This is for your own use. After you figure out the possible dimensions of the room addition, you can make a sketch for each floor. Show exactly how you envision the room to look. Locate the door and windows. How about the closet location, etc. Do some Elevation Sketches, which simply show what it would look like if you were standing outside looking at the walls.

* Hire A Professional To Draw The Permit Plans: You are going to have to pull a permit for this job. The plans that you submit with your permit application are going to have to be sealed by a Licensed Architect, Engineer, or General Contractor, especially Planning a Room Addition. You can’t escape this, and it is important, so that each contractor knows exactly what is expected of him.

* Hire Contractors: Now you have to make the choice —— Hire a General Contractor to oversee the entire project, or sub-contract and manage it yourself. If you are not familiar with construction methods, don’t even attempt to just sub-contract the project.During this estimating phase, you can take care of other problems in your home, like water damage repair.

This is a critical process, you must do your due diligence. Perform a Google Search and see what comes to light. Don’t settle for just a couple of bids, get several. Make sure that you can visit some past jobs, and speak with the past customers. You may be surprised. Get a thorough explanation of the Contractor’s Warranty. When you draw up the contract(s), be as specific as possible, thus avoiding problems further into the job. Speak to your attorney about the General Contractor putting up a Performance Guarantee Bond.

If you take care of all the preliminary steps correctly, you will enjoy a great project.

Raiders’ Jack Jones snaps back at Travis Kelce for saying Chiefs gave Vegas a ‘gift’ with win

0

The Kansas City Chiefs were huge favorites Christmas Day, but the games aren’t played on paper.

The Las Vegas Raiders visited Arrowhead and pulled off a huge upset, taking down the Chiefs, 20-14.

Travis Kelce was not pleased with the performance, saying his team “played Santa” and gave the Raiders the victory.

“We handed that team a win on Christmas. We literally played Santa and gave them a present,” Kelce said.

“That was embarrassing. Everyone in the building knows how embarrassing that was. We got a short week, so we’re gonna forget about this s— real quick.”

Raiders defensive back Jack Jones learned of Kelce’s comments and wasn’t too pleased.

“He said they gave us that game? Tell him to go watch that game,” Jones said Friday. “We took that game.”

Kelce criticized his own play, as well as his teammates’.

“It’s not just one guy. It’s not just me playing like dogs— … Everybody’s in this f—ing thing together … We just gotta bring it together, man…

“Everybody’s gotta just f—ing do their job. Every single play, somebody’s not doing their job. It’s me, one by one, it’s everybody on the team. Whether that’s prep, whether that’s having the confidence and understanding of what the defense is in … how we’re picking up blitzes, how we’re running routes versus certain overages, all of the above.

“We show sparks of what kind of offense we can be. … It just hasn’t been a well-oiled machine like we’ve been in the past, and we just gotta get everybody on the same f—ing page.”

Kelce also did not shy away from his argument with head coach Andy Reid that led to his helmet launch, admitting he was in the wrong and that he has to keep calm.

“He’s looking out for me, and I love him for it. I didn’t go back out there and play good,” Kelce admitted. “He wanted to see the fire in me, and I reacted in a bad way. He wanted to just get the best out of me, and right now I’m just not playing my best football. And I gotta f—ing lock the f— in, be more accountable for him, be more accountable for my teammates.

“I gotta keep my f—ing cool, because, as a leader on this team, that’s not how you switch the momentum.”

Broncos’ Russell Wilson says team approached him weeks ago about benching, unless injury guarantee was altered

0

Earlier this week, it was reported that Super Bowl winner Russell Wilson will likely sit on the Denver Broncos’ bench for the remainder of the season. On Friday, Wilson revealed the team gave him an ultimatum about his benching a couple of weeks ago.

According to Wilson, the conversation revolved around the guarantee against injury in his five-year, $245 million contract he signed last year. The contract kicks in next season.

Wilson has an estimated $37 million in 2025 salary that becomes fully vested in March. If the quarterback suffers a significant injury at any point this season, it would complicate the financial situation, NFL Network reported.

Wilson spoke to the media after a practice Friday, revealing the team approached him during the bye in Week 9.

“They came up to me during the bye week and beginning of the bye week, Monday or Tuesday, they told me if I didn’t change my contract, my injury guarantee, that I’d be benched the rest of the year,” he said.

Denver will host the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday, and Wilson is expected to serve as the backup to Jarrett Stidham.

Wilson added that, at some point, the players union learned about the situation.

“I was definitely disappointed about it,” Wilson said. “It was a process for the whole bye week. We had just come off beating the Chiefs. I was excited for us fighting for the playoffs and getting on a hot streak. The NFLPA and NFL got involved or whatever at some point.”

SEAHAWKS’ GENO SMITH HAS SIMPLE MESSAGE FOR RUSSELL WILSON AFTER BRONCOS QB IS BENCHED

Wilson lifted the team to three straight wins after the bye week before the Broncos dropped three of their last four to fall to 7-8. The Broncos need to win out and have the Chiefs lose their last two games to make the postseason for the first time since winning the Super Bowl following the 2015 season.

“It definitely hurt. It was a low blow for a bit,” Wilson said of the contract request by the team. “At the end of the day, I just want to keep my head down and try to do what I can do each play, each game, each moment.”

On Thursday, Wilson wrote a short post on X, formerly Twitter.

“God’s got me,” he wrote. “Looking forward to what’s next.”

First-year Broncos coach Sean Payton said he understood all the financial implications surrounding the decision to sit the veteran quarterback but said the goal was to still qualify for the postseason.

“I understand all the speculation and everything that surrounds a move like that, and I can tell you we’re desperately trying to win,” he said. “Sure, in our game today there are economics and all those other things, but the No. 1 push behind this … is to get a spark offensively.”

Wilson will focus on helping Stidham instead of worrying about his future with the team.

“Every day you wake up, you realize it’s a gift to play this game,” Wilson said. “I’m grateful for that. I hope that it’s here. And I hope that it’s here for a long time. If it’s not here, then I’ll be prepared to do that somewhere else. But I hope that it’s here.”

The New York Jets got walloped Thursday night, but one of their players made sure to get some sort of moral victory.

The Jets lost to the Cleveland Browns, 37-20, after Joe Flacco threw for over 300 yards for a fourth straight game.

The victory clinched the Browns’ second playoff spot in four years.

In a video captured near the sideline at some point during the game, Clemons pointed at several fans and repeatedly said “f— you.”

New York fell to 6-10 on the season.

Clemons has gotten himself into trouble before, getting into a violent brawl with teammates during training camp.

Varner won his first LIV event earlier this year in Washington, D.C., taking home the $4 million prize.

When Varner announced his decision to join the rival circuit in 2022, he didn’t shy away from acknowledging the financial implications of his choice.

“The truth is, my life is changing. The opportunity to join LIV Golf is simply too good of a financial breakthrough for me to pass by. I know what it means to grow up without much. This money is going to ensure that my kid and future Varners will have a solid base to start on and a life I could have only dreamt about growing up. It’ll also help fund many of the programs I’m building with my Foundation. I’ll continue to forge pathways for kids interested in golf. This note is a receipt for that,” he wrote in a message shared on Instagram.

Alabama players say they are ‘not allowed’ to watch film on their own because of what Michigan is ‘known for’

0

The Alabama Crimson Tide are looking for a competitive edge against Michigan.

The two legendary football programs will meet in the Rose Bowl New Year’s Day for a trip to the national championship. The 13-0 Wolverines are the No. 1 seed, while Bama is No. 4 after winning the SEC.

Michigan has been wrapped up in a sign-stealing scandal that promopted a three-game suspension for coach Jim Harbaugh.

Connor Stalions, the accused ringleader of the alleged scheme, left the program after reports said he was fired.

Because of all of that, Alabama wide receiver Isaiah Bond said Crimson Tide players are “not allowed” to watch film on their own.

Running back Jase McClellan explained why.

“You know, what Michigan is known for,” he said. “What they have out there. Just the play call stealing.”

“And they were like, I guess, like looking at other people’s play calls like their hands signals,” Bond said, via AL.com. “It was like the first eight games or something like that. We was able to watch film with the team, but, personally, we can’t watch film because, like, I don’t know, for some reason with Michigan stealing signs. But I’m not really too keen on all that.”

“We just didn’t want to take no chances,” offensive lineman JC Latham added. “It’s a really big game. I think we have a really great film staff and guys who make sure our film is pretty secure, but we’re just taking another precaution to make sure we’re all good.”

Bond said coaches told him Thursday Michigan was apparently trying to get into a team’s performance database. Yahoo Sports reported Friday that the NCAA and authorities are investigating “unauthorized access” of footage, but Catapult, the database used, did not find “any security breach in our systems.”

Despite what Michigan might be doing, Bond has no worries.

“I mean, when we get on the field, they’re going to have to play us anyways, so all that sign stealing won’t help.”

Ravens to honor Ray Rice as ‘Legend of the Game’ nearly a decade after domestic violence suspension

0

Ray Rice spent six seasons with the Baltimore Ravens before the leak of a video of him punching a woman, now his wife, in an elevator.

Rice was initially suspended two games for the incident.

But when the video was made public, the Ravens released him, and the NFL announced he would be suspended indefinitely. He never played another snap in the NFL.

Exactly 10 years to the day since his final game, the team announced Friday that Rice will be honored as the organization’s “Legend of the Game” this weekend.

Ryan Mink, the editorial director for baltimoreravens.com, said Rice “is being recognized for the player he was, and for the redemption he has worked towards.”

“I truly understand why I was let go and why so many hearts changed,” Rice told the team’s website. “But hopefully people can see where I’m at now. They say people can change, right? I am not the same person I was 10-12 years ago. That’s just not who I am.

“Every time I stepped on the field, I gave it my all. But I couldn’t say the same for life. Now I’m trying to be the best version of me.”

Rice quickly became one of the most productive backs in the NFL after serving in a backup role his rookie season. From 2009 to 2012, he gained 5,066 yards on 1,109 carries (4.6 yards per carry) while finding the end zone 39 times (33 rushing, six receiving) and winning the 2013 Super Bowl.

A fourth and 29 catch-and-run during his career gave birth to the phrase, “Hey diddle diddle, Ray Rice up the middle.”

He fell off big time in 2013, though, rushing for just 660 yards on 214 carries.

Roughly six weeks after that season ended, Rice and his fiancée at the time took a trip to Atlantic City, where they got into a dispute, followed by the punch.

Rice appealed his second suspension, citing a violation of league rules in being punished twice for the same offense. He was reinstated in November 2014 but still never played again. Rice even sued the team, saying he should have earned 15 weeks of pay, but the parties settled the dispute.

Rice and his wife, Janay, have been married nearly a decade and have two kids.

“A lot of things I had to overcome came out of me being at my lowest,” Rice said. “It’s a daily grind. It’s daily work. But there’s real purpose behind that. At the end of the day, I did something very wrong. I didn’t deserve anything in my life when it happened. My second chance was with my family.

“I knew it would be hard to forgive me, but the one thing I have been consistent with was that I was going to be better. I’m not going to be a victim of my past,” Rice added. “My legacy won’t be domestic violence. My legacy will be what I became after.”

Rice launched a nonprofit, Pipeline 2 Prosperity, to help underprivileged children in both Baltimore and his hometown of New Rochelle, New York, in 2019, and has worked to spread awareness about domestic violence.

Minor league hockey team issues apology after jersey color sparks controversy

0

The Cincinnati Cyclones recently came under fire after a video posted to the minor league hockey team’s social media account appeared to reference the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

The Cyclones play in the ECHL and are an affiliate of the New York Rangers. In a since-deleted video posted to X, formerly Twitter, Cyclones player Justin Vaive wore the team’s red throwback jersey as he stood on the ice soaked in red light.

The controversial video had the following caption, “We don’t care, we paint the town red (on January 6).”

Some social media users suggested the caption was related to the lyrics from Doja Cat’s song “Paint The Town Red.”

Others believed the post was a political statement related to the Capitol riot almost three years ago.

“Paint the town WHAT on WHEN?!?!” said Connor Moore, a social media coordinator for the Chicago Sky.

As of Wednesday, the video no longer appeared on the Cyclones’ social media platforms. The team also issued a public apology and explained that the post was “in no way a political statement.”

“Last night we shared a video of our red warm-up jerseys with lyrics to a trending song,” the statement said.

“The tweet was meant to hype people up for our Throwback Night, where we will wear the retro inspired jerseys. Our Throwback Night is traditionally held on the first weekend of January. This night and these jerseys are in no way a political statement.”

However, the apology also seemed to prompt angst, with some social media users claiming the ECHL hockey team was giving into “cancel culture.”

“Stop issuing apologies for cancel culture,” someone wrote on X.

The same social media user added that the initial post was harmless.

“The Clones posted about wearing red jerseys on Jan 6th…You people that spent time battling this need to get another job. It was harmless,” the post said.

Browns’ Elijah Moore stayed overnight at hospital following scary concussion, coach says

0

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters Friday that Elijah Moore spent the night in a hospital after a scary concussion.

Late in the second quarter, Moore was tackled from behind on a routine play, but he went to the ground awkwardly.

The receiver fell helmet-first onto the field and turned onto his back.

While he was on the ground, Moore’s head shook, which seemed like him shaking off the hit at first. But then it looked like he began convulsing.

His arms began flailing, although not violently. But it did look as if Moore had no control over them, prompting a teammate to call for the training staff.

Dr. Evan Jeffries, who is on X, formerly Twitter, as the @GameInjuryDoc, said Moore’s movements were “involuntary … from a brain injury.”

Another doctor, Jesse Morse, said Moore may have had a seizure.

“Those are always scary as we all know, but I will say this about him — I’m very proud of him,” Stefanski said, via USA Today. “He was getting going. I thought the route he ran for that touchdown was outstanding. He’s done a great job for us, and with Amari going down, put him over there in that spot and didn’t miss a beat.”

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce is wasting no time setting his goals for the new year.

“I’m not eating bacon anymore,” he added, which sparked shocked reactions from both Jason and Kylie.
