A massive fire broke out last week at the Florida home of NFL All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill. The Miami Dolphins star was at a practice when the blaze started.

Davie Fire Rescue later determined the fire was an “unintentional, accidental” event that was sparked by a child who was playing with a lighter inside the home. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire shortly after arriving at the mansion located in Southwest Ranches last Wednesday. Southwest Ranches is located around 23 miles west of Fort Lauderdale.

But during a recent episode of HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” Hill spoke about the extensive damage the fire left behind.

“It’s done,” Hill told teammates. “House done, bro. … Smoke damage, fire damage, the whole upstairs is burnt down.”

It remains unclear if the home will undergo repairs or if any part of the structure will have to be knocked down.

Hill was seen leaving Dolphins practice after he learned about the two-alarm fire. Video from WSVN-TV later showed him outside the house with a walking boot. The 29-year-old continues to nurse a lingering ankle injury he suffered during a game.

The Dolphins said in a statement no one was injured as a result of the fire.

“Tyreek has been in communication with his family. Everyone is out of the house and safe at this time. He has also left practice to deal with the situation.”

Hill’s longtime agent, Drew Rosenhaus, also told reporters that Hill was in good spirits in the hours after the fire.

“(Tyreek) and his family are safe, no one was injured, No. 1. No pets, so we’re very grateful [for that],” Rosenhaus said last week.

“Very grateful to the firefighters that put the fire out,” he went on. “Thankfully, the fire was contained to a limited area in the home. Obviously, there’ll be some smoke and water damage — and it’s very difficult for anybody, obviously, to have your home catch on fire — but Tyreek was handling it. He and his family were handling it with as much poise as you could hope.”

Hill purchased the seven-bedroom home in 2022 for an estimated $6.9 million. Hill is in his second season with the Dolphins. He has an NFL-best 1,717 receiving yards this season.

The Dolphins travel to Hill’s former NFL home, Kansas City, this weekend for a wild-card round matchup against the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs.

Russell Wilson had somewhat of an up-and-down relationship with Pete Carroll. But the quarterback and coach duo enjoyed some considerable success over their 10 years together in Seattle, winning one Super Bowl.

On Wednesday, Carroll held a press conference and confirmed that he “competed hard” to remain the Seahawks head coach, but he ultimately agreed to step down.

“I competed pretty hard to be the coach, just so you know,” Carroll said.

Carroll is expected to remain with the organization in an advisory role. Shortly after news of Carroll’s removal surfaced, Wilson took to social media to share his gratitude for the time he spent with Carroll.

“One of the Greatest Ever,” Wilson wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “‘Keep Shooting’ Coach. Grateful for the memories. Pete Carroll Best is Ahead.”

Carroll was one of the decision-makers who selected Wilson in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Carroll believed in Wilson enough to name him the starting quarterback when he was a rookie. Wilson was selected to the Pro Bowl in his first year in the NFL.

Seahawks chair Jody Allen released a statement, saying the organization and Carroll “amicably agreed” to change Carroll’s role.

“After thoughtful meetings and careful consideration for the best interest of the franchise, we have amicably agreed with Pete Carroll that his role will evolve from Head Coach to remain with the organization as an [adviser],” Allen said in a statement.

Allen also expressed gratitude for Carroll’s numerous accomplishments over his 14-year tenure.

“Pete is the winningest coach in Seahawks history, brought the city its first Super Bowl title, and created a tremendous impact over the past 14 years. His expertise in leadership and building a championship culture will continue as an integral part of our organization moving forward. Pete will always be a beloved member of the Seahawks family.”

Last February, Wilson denied reports that he called for Carroll’s job when he was still the Seahawks quarterback. The report from The Athletic stated that Wilson wanted Carroll and Seahawks general manager John Schneider fired a few weeks before Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos.

At the time, Wilson reportedly wanted Seattle to replace Carroll with Sean Payton, who had stepped down at the time as head coach of the New Orleans Saints.

Fox News’ Scott Thompson contributed to the report.

The college football world received bombshell news Wednesday night that Alabama head coach Nick Saban is retiring, according to multiple reports.

Saban, the head coach at Alabama for 17 seasons, has yet to comment after the reports.

As college football continues to undergo massive changes — conference realignment, the transfer portal and name, image and likeness (NIL) — one of Saban’s colleagues and friends, Deion Sanders, weighed in.

ALABAMA’S NICK SABAN RETIRING AS FOOTBALL COACH

“WOW! College Football just lost the GOAT to retirement,” Sanders posted to X. “WOW! I knew it would happen 1 day soon but not this soon. The game has change so much that it chased the GOAT away. College football let’s hold up our mirrors and say HONESTLY what u see.”

Sanders has used the new rules of college football to his advantage, completely overhauling the roster at Colorado in his first season.

After being hired in December 2022, Sanders turned to the portal to infuse the roster with talent after a 1-11 campaign. Colorado went 4-8 in Sanders’ first season, losing its last six games to end the year.

College football will see even more changes in 2024 as the College Football Playoff moves from a four-team playoff to a 12-team model.

The SEC will welcome Texas and Oklahoma, while the Pac-12 will be a shell of itself. The “Conference of Champions” will see 10 of its 12 members depart to the Big Ten, Big 12 or ACC in 2024, and Oregon State and Washington State will attempt to keep the conference afloat.

Charles Barkley says, if he were Jimmy Kimmel, he’d punch Aaron Rodgers in the face over Epstein remark

Charles Barkley said Wednesday he believed that Aaron Rodgers crossed the line when he made a Jeffrey Epstein remark while talking about Jimmy Kimmel last week.

As the feud between Rodgers and Kimmel exploded over the last few days, Barkley appeared on “CBS Mornings” and was asked about the ongoing back-and-forth between the two.

“There’s a lot of people, including Jimmy Kimmel, who are really hoping that doesn’t come out,” Rodgers said last week on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “I’ll tell you what, if that list comes out, I definitely will be popping some sort of bottle.”

Gayle King asked what Barkley would do if Rodgers had said that about him.

“I would have punched him in the face,” Barkley said. “I think that when you’re in the limelight, people get to say things about you — that goes with the territory — but when you start comparing people, saying you’re hanging out with pedophiles and people having sex with underage girls, that’s dangerous.”

Barkley said he “loved” Kimmel’s response. The comedian retorted on Monday on his late-night show after threatening a lawsuit.

Barkley added that what Rodgers did was “slander.”

Rodgers, on this past Tuesday’s “Pat McAfee Show,” he never called Kimmel a pedophile.

“I was referring to the fact that if there’s a list, which again, this hasn’t come out yet. There was just a deposition, and there are names on it, then that would be the second time that soft brained, junior college student, wacko, anti-vax, antisemite, purveyor, spreader of misinformation, conspiracy theorist, MAGA, whatever other things that have been said by him and other people in the media would be right twice,” Rodgers said.

“Let me just say, that is the truth, No. 1. No. 2, I totally understand how serious an allegation of pedophilia would be. So, for him to be upset about that, I get it. Did you watch the quote because that’s exactly what I said? Verbatim. What I said on the show.”

The four-time NFL MVP said he wasn’t “stupid enough” to levy a pedophilia claim at the late-night host.

“I’m not stupid enough, even though you think I’m an idiot, and you made a lot of comments about my intelligence. But I’m not stupid enough to accuse you of that with absolutely zero evidence, concrete evidence. That’s ridiculous. I’m glad, and I think we can agree on something is that, one, those crimes are heinous and, two, and I’m glad you’re not on a list because those who are on the list — and this is what I think we can agree on — that, at minimum, there should be an inquiry into their involvement. Especially if they went to the island. And, at maximum, there should be an investigation into it,” he said.

“I hope he will give the same type of energy to these heinous crimes when they do come out and the names do come out and there is an inquiry into it that you gave to other subjects that I actually mentioned that you spent a lot of time working on.”

Rodgers maintained he didn’t care what Kimmel said about him.

“To sum this up, I still haven’t popped a bottle because there still hasn’t been any list that’s come out,” he said. “I’m glad Jimmy is not on the list. I really am, and I don’t think he’s the p-word. I think it’s impressive that a man who went to Arizona State and has 10 joke writers, can read off a prompter. My education at JUCO and my three semesters at Cal that I’m very proud of has worked out for me, and I’m glad to see it’s worked out for him as well.

“I wish him the best. Again, I don’t give a s— what he says about me. But as long as he understands what I actually said and that I’m not accusing him of being on a list. I’m all for moving forward.”

Warriors’ Draymond Green says he appreciated the NBA placing an ‘indefinite’ label on his suspension

The NBA recently reinstated Draymond Green. The longtime Warriors forward was away from the team for the past few weeks as he served an indefinite suspension.

Suspensions are typically viewed as a punishment for a given player’s actions, but in Green’s case it appears to have been the exact opposite. In a press conference on Tuesday, Green revealed that his open-minded approach to the counseling he received during the suspension allowed him to see it as a blessing in disguise.

Green specifically expressed appreciation for the league’s decision to classify the suspension as “indefinite.”

“It’s not necessarily a time thing, but when it is indefinite, you don’t know what that means either,” Green explained in his first public comments since the NBA handed down the suspension. “That could be… who knows what, it’s indefinite. Like I said, having the time allows you to process those thoughts. And I’m also appreciative to the league for the indefinite suspension.”

Shortly after the suspension was announced, the league released a statement about Green’s willingness to go through the necessary steps to address his conduct.

“Green completed steps that demonstrated his commitment to conforming his conduct to standards expected of NBA players,” the league said in a statement. “He has engaged in meetings with a counselor and has met jointly on multiple occasions with representatives of the NBA, the Warriors and the National Basketball Players Association, both of which will continue throughout the season.”

Green further explained his appreciation for the unclear timeline.

“You know why? Because there was no goal to return. There was no, ‘All right, I’m going to work and get through these five games so as soon as the five games are up I’m back.'”

Last month, ESPN reported Green was attending virtual meetings with team officials and representatives from the players union and the NBA in an effort to track his progress toward reinstatement.

Green is represented by Klutch Sports founder Rich Paul. The powerful sports agent, along with Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., were believed to be a part of the group that participated in the meetings.

Green lost just shy of $2 million in wages while serving the suspension, according to ESPN. Golden State has gone 7-5 during Green’s absence. He will continue to ramp up his workload as he pushes to return to the court.

Hearing aid use could help people live longer, study finds

0

Wearing hearing aids could increase life span, a new study has found.

Research by the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California found that people who wear hearing aids regularly had a 24% lower risk of mortality.

The study, published in The Lancet Healthy Longevity earlier this month, evaluated the history of nearly 10,000 patients over the age of 20 who received hearing evaluations.

HEARING AIDS ARE NOW CHEAPER AND EASIER TO BUY FOR HARD-OF-HEARING AMERICANS

Researchers looked at data compiled by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 1999 and 2012 and followed the mortality status of each adult over an average 10-year period.

Of the 1,863 adults who were identified to have hearing loss, 237 were regular hearing aid users and 1,483 were considered “never users.”

There was no difference in mortality risk for people who wore their hearing aids irregularly, according to the study. (iStock)

The near-quarter difference in mortality rate remained evident between the two groups, regardless of factors like hearing loss severity, age, gender, income and medical history.

People who reported wearing their hearing aids less frequently were considered “non-regular users” in the study.

Between non-regular and never users, there was no difference in mortality risk indicated, which revealed that wearing hearing aids only occasionally may not extend life span.

HEARING AIDS TO BE AVAILABLE WITHOUT PRESCRIPTION AFTER FDA RULE

Janet Choi, M.D., a Keck Medicine otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat doctor) and lead researcher of the study, reacted to the findings in a statement sent to Fox News Digital.

As someone who uses a hearing aid herself, Choi said she found the significant difference in mortality risks “exciting.”

Health factors such as social isolation, loneliness, depression, anxiety, decreased physical activity and dementia could occur due to hearing loss, the study author said. (iStock)

“It suggests that there may be a potential protective role of hearing aid use against mortality among those who could benefit from hearing aids,” she said.

Next, Choi and her research team plan to investigate the “cause-and-effect relationship between hearing aid use and mortality, as well as other health outcomes and the underlying mechanisms.”

ALL EARS FOR ‘SEXY’ HEARING AIDS: DESIGNERS TRANSFORM KEY DEVICES INTO COOL ACCESSORIES

“I encourage anyone experiencing hearing difficulties to get their hearing tested and determine the type and severity of their hearing loss,” she said.

“You might be surprised at the variety of hearing device options available to assist with hearing loss that can enhance daily communication and quality of life.”

“You might be surprised at the variety of hearing device options available to assist with hearing loss that can enhance daily communication and quality of life,” the researcher said. (iStock)

The researcher noted that it may take time to find the right hearing aids and get used to them.

“Once you do, you’ll be amazed to hear the sounds that you have been missing,” she said.

While the study did not pinpoint the reason that life span could improve with hearing aid use, Choi suggested there are “several possible mechanisms” that could contribute.

YOUNG PEOPLE AT RISK OF HEARING LOSS DUE TO UNSAFE LISTENING PRACTICES: NEW STUDY

“One hypothesis is that the use of hearing aids modifies the effect of hearing loss on various health outcomes that contribute to mortality, including social isolation, loneliness, depression, anxiety, decreased physical activity and dementia,” she said.

“Another potential mechanism is the restoration of auditory input itself, which may impact brain structures.”

Hearing aids could “improve communication and adherence in medical settings,” the researcher said. (iStock)

Hearing aids may also “improve communication and adherence in medical settings,” Choi added.

People who use hearing aids regularly are also likely to be more health conscious and have a “higher level of access to health care,” according to the doctor.

Kamal Wagle, M.D., a geriatrician at Hackensack University Medical Group in New Jersey, who was not involved in the study, reiterated the importance of the findings in an interview with Fox News Digital.

The research highlighted how hearing loss is associated with other aging-related health issues, the doctor said, like social isolation, depression, dementia, falls and overall frailty.

“This is really good to know,” he said. “For me, as a clinician, it has a lot of implications – and I can bring it up with patients, so we can engage them in correcting hearing aids, so we can improve their quality of life.”

Hearing aid use could improve social interactions, a geriatrician told Fox News Digital. (iStock)

This study could help encourage more widespread hearing aid use, he noted, which could lead to improved social interactions, mood and “overall quality of life.”

This increase in social and physical engagement could then be a factor in living longer, Wagle suggested.

The doctor also noted that a “good number” of his aging patients are “not really engaged” in correcting their hearing, especially since the cost of hearing aids can be a deterrent.

“I think a study like this will probably also help move the momentum of insurance coverage for hearing aids,” Wagle added.

Pat McAfee ‘happy’ Aaron Rodgers’ weekly appearances during NFL season are over, as scrutiny gets ‘real loud’

Aaron Rodgers’ weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” is done for the rest of the NFL season, the ESPN radio host said on Wednesday.

Over the last two weeks, Rodgers has drawn negativity toward the show over his comments about Jimmy Kimmel and the Jeffrey Epstein list. Rodgers did not appear to make anything easier for Pat McAfee on Tuesday, when he elaborated on his remarks and took a swipe at an ESPN executive.

The former Indianapolis Colts punter appeared to lament the scrutiny Rodgers brought to the show.

“So, Aaron Rodgers Tuesday Season 4 is done,” McAfee said, kicking off his program Wednesday. “There’s gonna be a lot of people who are happy about that, myself included to be honest. The way it ended – it got real loud. I’m happy that that is not gonna be in my mentions going forward which is great news.”

McAfee maintained that he has the right to the creative process despite people who do not want to see him succeed in the space that he is in.

He said he understood, though, that those naysayers have been given a lot to work with as far as levying criticism goes.

“Over the last week, we have certainly given them all a lot of stuff to get mad about and become loud about. We messed up in that particular aspect and by we I mean we’re a conversation show, people are having conversations. We live in a country that has freedom of speech, but also you’re gonna have to deal with the consequences of your freedom of speech,” he said.

“So, what I’m saying is we’re giving a lot people who’ve been waiting for us to fail a lot of ammo in things to attack us for over the last week and we would love to get back to the point where we just move on and continue to silence all the haters over here who can’t negotiate as good as I can. All the people over here who can’t create as good a show as us and all the people up here who will always be here and they’re gonna hustle and do their thing and I respect, but we need to do that and that is our focus and that is our goal.”

McAfee added that he felt lucky to be able to get a chance to talk to Rodgers every week but was happy he did not have to get pulled into any more Wednesday conversations about the things he would say.

New England Patriots offensive lineman Trent Brown appeared to be unhappy for a good part of the 2023 season as the team fell into the bottom barrel of the NFL.

Before Brown left the Patriots’ facility for the season, he strongly pushed back on the negative reports that swirled around him over the course of the year. Brown took issue with “anonymous sources” leaking information and denied ever speaking about wanting to join an NFC East team.

“It’s been a rough year,” he told NESN in an interview published Tuesday. “This has been a year like no other that I’ve had in my NFL career as far as the amount of anonymous sources that have come forward to spew complete lies about my character.

“It’s been tough to even go in the building every day knowing that there’s somebody that I probably look at every day, or smiles in my face every day, that is running a smear campaign.”

Brown touched on the Patriots’ struggles, pointing to the departure of Ted Karras, the trade of Shaq Mason and the lack of doing anything to fill the position with the right guys as an issue. He added that he felt as though the Patriots were messing with him during the year.

“I’ve even heard from coaches how they’ll sit in staff meetings and they’ll be talking about how they can f— with me,” he said. “Like, I guess trying to get me out of character or whatever. It’s really crazy to think that we’re spending time talking about that instead of getting better.”

Brown said he dealt with injuries and illnesses as well. The one-time Pro Bowler played in 11 games for New England after appearing in all 17 last season.

Even with the issues he said he experienced, he told NESN he would not be “opposed” to re-joining the team for 2024.
