Lions clinch division title for first time since 1993

0

The drought is over for the Detroit Lions.

The Lions clinched an NFC North title on Sunday with a 30-24 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. It’s the team’s first division title since the 1993 season. Lions cornerback Ifeatu Melifonwu intercepted a pass from Vikings quarterback Nick Mullens to seal the game.

Minnesota gave Detroit all it could handle. Detroit took a 17-7 lead late in the first half when Jahmyr Gibbs ran for a 14-yard score. But before the half was over, Mullens found Justin Jefferson for a 26-yard touchdown pass before the whistle blew.

The Vikings then took a 21-17 lead in the third quarter when Mullens hit K.J. Osborn for a 6-yard touchdown pass. But the Lions answered with a Jared Goff touchdown pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown. Gibbs ran for a touchdown in the fourth to go up 30-21.

Mullens had a chance to guide Minnesota down the field. Jefferson made an unbelievable catch on third down during the series but the pick to Melifonwu proved to be costly. Melifonwu’s interception was one of four for Mullens. Kerby Joseph had two and Brian Branch had another.

Goff finished 30-of-40 for 257 yards and a touchdown pass. Gibbs led the team with 80 rushing yards. St. Brown finished with 12 catches for 106 yards and a touchdown.

The Lions were division champs in 1993 when they finished 10-6 and won the NFC Central Division under head coach Wayne Fontes. Barry Sanders was a Pro Bowler that year after running for 1,115 yards in 11 games.

Rodney Peete and Erik Kramer split time at quarterback and Herman Moore led the team in receiving with 61 catches for 935 yards and six touchdowns.

NFL fans upset at officials as hit on Falcons’ Tyler Allgeier draws unnecessary roughness penalty

0

NFL officials in a game between the Indianapolis Colts and Atlanta Falcons came under fire over a questionable unnecessary roughness call.

The play in question came in the second quarter with about 8:54 left on the clock. Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier caught a pass on a screen play and ran the ball for a first down. On the tail end of the play, Colts linebacker E.J. Speed nailed the running back as he was heading out of bounds.

The drive ended with a Falcons field goal and Atlanta went up 10-7. The team led 13-7 at the half and at the start of the third quarter, Atlanta started with an Allgeier 31-yard touchdown run.

Both teams are vying for playoff spots so any call on the field is crucial. Indianapolis entered the game with an 8-6 record and sitting at No. 7 in the AFC playoff picture.

Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh has $125M contract extension offer but it comes with NFL twist: report

0

Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh has been in the spotlight over the course of the year mainly due to the team making the College Football Playoff despite the controversies they faced.

But Harbaugh’s name has surfaced as a potential head coaching candidate in the NFL years after he parted ways with the San Francisco 49ers following the 2014 season. He’s had a successful tenure at Michigan since he took over in late December 2014.

He appears to be weighing a crucial decision as the 2023 season comes to an end.

Harbaugh was offered a 10-year, $125 million contract extension to stay with Michigan, the NFL Network reported Sunday. But the deal reportedly comes with an NFL twist. He would agree to hold off on entertaining or accepting an NFL job until after the 2024 season.

The NFL Network reported that the deal would only be for one season. His current deal runs through 2026 and he could jump if he wanted to.

There are plenty of NFL head coaching jobs already open as several coaches have been fired in the middle of the seasons. There could also be intriguing jobs opening once Week 18 is finished.

Harbaugh interviewed for the Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos jobs, respectively, in the last two hiring cycles. This coming year, the Las Vegas Raiders, Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Chargers will have openings and may see Harbaugh as the guy to give their teams a lift.

For now, Harbaugh is preparing Michigan for the College Football Playoff semifinal against Alabama.

Eastern Michigan player ignites brawl with South Alabama after 49-point loss

South Alabama rumbled to a 49-point victory against Eastern Michigan on Saturday night in the 68 Ventures Bowl but the action didn’t stop once the final whistle blew.

Eastern Michigan defensive back Korey Hernandez appeared to get into an altercation with South Alabama defensive back Jamarrien Burt as the Jaguars band performed for the team, according to AL.com. Hernandez punched Burt in the head as the Jaguars players faced the band.

More Jaguars players got involved in the melee but after a few moments the fight was broken up.

The game first saw Hernandez and another South Alabama defensive back, Brian Dillard, get tied up in the second quarter. Tensions apparently boiled over after the game.

“I didn’t see things when they happened,” Eagles head coach Chris Creighton said after the game, via the outlet. “But I definitely saw the intensity of what had just happened. We had a really good, long talk in the locker room afterwards.

“I think that our guys care a lot about performing well. I’m sure we were embarrassed by how we played and it probably didn’t take too much to get our guys into a place that we hope that they never get.”

It was fun at first but Simone Biles is over the jokes about her relationship with her husband, Green Bay Packers defensive back Jonathan Owens, after his recent podcast remarks.

Owens admitted on “The Pivot” he didn’t know who Biles was when he connected with her on the dating app, Raya. Owens says he was on the app when he saw a gymnast, which “piqued my curiosity.” However, it was actually Biles who made the first move.

“I didn’t know who she was at the time, but the first thing that I saw was that she just had a bunch of followers so in my mind, I’m like, ‘OK, she got to be good,'” Owens admitted to “The Pivot” earlier this week.

The remarks led to a trend on TikTok where women would ask their husbands if they knew who Biles’ husband was. The Olympic great was finished with all of it.

Steelers’ Mason Rudolph praises Jesus Christ after delivering huge win, helping him get through ‘dark times’

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph praised Jesus Christ following the team’s 34-11 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday night.

It was Rudolph’s first start since Nov. 14, 2021, against the Tennessee Titans. He was 17-of-27 with 290 passing yards and two touchdowns against the Bengals and helped keep the Steelers in playoff contention.

But through the tough times, Rudolph said his faith pushed him to keep going.

“First off, I wanna say, just so thankful to my Creator, Jesus Christ, for giving me the opportunity to play this game and for carrying me through dark times, and getting me back here for this special moment,” Rudolph told NBC’s Kathryn Tappen after the game.

Rudolph has been with the Steelers since 2018 and had been Ben Roethlisberger’s backup for most of his career. But over the last few years, he’s had to compete to keep the backup role against Mitchell Trubisky after getting beat out for the starting job by Kenny Pickett. Rudolph signed a one-year deal in the offseason to remain with the Steelers.

Pickett’s injuries this season have forced him to the sideline and Trubisky lost the opportunity after last week’s 30-13 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Passwords are our first line of defense against cyberattacks that can expose our personal and financial information to crooks, hackers, thieves, snoops, catfish creeps and criminals.

If you choose weak or predictable passwords, you’re just asking for trouble and risk losing your privacy and security to these bad people who can cause you serious damage.

How do I come up with a good password?

There are some basic rules to creating a good password that will be difficult for hackers to crack into. Following these guidelines might help you narrow down what you should and should not use.

Make sure your password has a minimum of 12 characters

The longer the password and the more characters that a hacker has to try, the better. Some sites will require you to make your password a certain amount of characters anyway, but having at least 12-14 characters or more is usually a safe bet.

Include numbers, symbols, capital and lowercase letters

Again, the more variety you have, the better. Be sure to include numbers and symbols and capital and lowercase letters. Make everything as random as possible to keep the hackers out. For example, a password like ‘d%A$r(T496’ would be much more difficult to crack than ‘dart496.’

CYBERCRIME VICTIMS LOSE MORE MONEY IN ALABAMA THAN ANY OTHER STATE: STUDY

Avoid dictionary words

Any word on its own is not good to use for a password. It’s too easy for a hacker to take one lucky guess from a common dictionary, like “cat” or “apple.” Even a combination of dictionary words like “blue car” is too simple of a password.

Don’t use substitutions

Replacing letters with common symbols can also lead to bad news. For example, if you want to use the word “smart” but instead write it as “$mart,” it’s too obvious because the $ symbol and the letter S look too similar.

Try to use a passkey instead of a password

Whenever possible, opt for passkeys instead of passwords. Passkeys are unique codes tethered to your device, which makes them a lot more secure and less susceptible to breaches. More companies like Apple, Google, Amazon and Microsoft are adopting passkey support as a safer alternative.

How can I keep my passwords safe?

Aside from the simpler password guidelines listed above, two other ways to keep your passwords safe are by using different passwords for different accounts and by avoiding writing down your passwords anywhere.

However, keeping track of all those letter and number combinations can be pretty difficult, especially considering that most tasks are completed online and we’re required to have many accounts.

That’s why we recommend using a password manager. Password managers are apps that allow you to create, store, fill and manage passwords for every task that you complete online, from online banking to shopping to medical records. Many password managers also include login encryption, making it more difficult (including the password manager company) to guess your password.

What qualities should I look for in a password manager?

When it comes to choosing the best password manager for you, here are some of my top tips.

  • Deploys secure
  • Works seamlessly across all of your devices
  • Creates unique complicated passwords that are different for every account
  • Automatically populates login and password fields for apps and sites you revisit
  • Has a browser extension for all browsers you use to automatically insert passwords for you
  • Allows a fail-safe in case the primary password is ever lost or forgotten
  • Checks that your existing passwords remain safe and alerts you if ever compromised
  • Uses two-factor authentication security
