Pope Francis says he will not be buried in Vatican, has prepared a grave in Basilica of St. Mary Major

0

Pope Francis announced in a recent interview that he plans to be buried outside the Vatican.

The pontiff told Mexican broadcaster Televisa’s N+ news service that he has made arrangements to be buried in the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome.

“The place is already prepared,” Pope Francis told the outlet, saying that the basilica where he prays regularly before foreign trips is his “great devotion.”

POPE FRANCIS’ ILLNESS REVEALED TO BE ‘VERY ACUTE INFECTIOUS BRONCHITIS’

While the pope says he is recovering from his bout with severe bronchitis, he notes that his capabilities are declining with old age.

“It is true that all journeys are now rethought,” Pope Francis told the outlet regarding overseas trips. “If they’re close by, they can be done. If they’re farther away, they are rethought. There are limits.”

He has no plans to retire like his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, reiterating his belief that the papacy is intended to be a position held until death — but says he waits for God to decide when his reign should end.

POPE FRANCIS SAYS ‘LURE OF CORRUPTION’ IS CONSTANT THREAT IN THE VATICAN

“I ask the Lord to say ‘enough,’ at some point, but when he wants me to,” Pope Francis said.

Pontiffs do not have a requirement for burial location — but since the death of St. Pope Pius X in 1914, all popes have been buried in the grotto under St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.

For centuries, St. Peter’s Basilica has been the most common choice for the internment of deceased popes, but many pontiffs have chosen churches or catacombs with which they have a more personal connection.

The Basilica of St. Mary Major has been a spiritual home for Pope Francis since the beginning of his pontificate.

He has stopped at the Basilica before and after most major apostolic journeys, as well as after each stint in the hospital.

The basilica, which dates back sixteen centuries, features the Salus Populi Romani — an ancient icon of the Virgin Mary and infant Jesus believed to be from the 6th century.

Seven popes are currently buried in the basilica.

‘Don’t take your ex girlfriend back’

Former NFL star Dez Bryant offered Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Will Levis some unsolicited dating advice following his comeback win over the Miami Dolphins on Monday night.

The former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver wrote on X that Levis should not consider rekindling a relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Gia Duddy, and should be focused on becoming Tennessee’s franchise quarterback.

“She got endorsements sitting next to you on draft night. I remember. She wasted no time making herself the priority after going viral. You got a chance to be a franchise QB make it a priority! Great win champ!”

Duddy gained notoriety earlier this year as she sat with Levis in the NFL Draft green room as he waited for his name to be called. It never happened in the first round, though the Titans pulled the trigger in the second round with the 33rd overall pick on the signal caller out of Kentucky.

In July, Levis revealed Duddy landed a Burger King deal after going viral.

The two apparently broke up over the course of the next few months. She sparked new speculation when she posted a “breakup” video on her TikTok page last month.

As Levis was set to begin his rookie year, Barstool Sports’ “Pardon My Take” reported the couple broke things off after three years together.

If you want to unmute a conversation or email chain, you can do so by following the same steps that you used to mute it.

For text messages, tap the three dots in the top right corner, tap Group details, then tap Notifications, and then tap Default.

For emails, tap the three dots in the top right corner, then tap Unmute. You will then receive notifications for the conversation or email chain as usual.

Florida AG launches probe into CFP after Florida State snub: ‘Decision reeks of partiality’

0

The College Football Playoff Selection Committee is under investigation in Florida over its decision to keep the Florida State Seminoles out of the four-team field, state Attorney General Ashley Moody said on Tuesday.

Florida State finished the season 13-0 and, despite that, were not included in the playoffs. Alabama and Texas – each team that had one loss during the season – hopped over the Seminoles. CFP officials pointed to the team’s make-up as it stood now as the reason why the team was snubbed.

Moody said the state is seeking to determine whether any anticompetitive conduct was involved in keeping Florida State out of the playoffs. Officials are also seeking communications from the SEC, ACC, NCAA, ESPN, Group of Five Conferences and Power Five Conferences.

“I’m a lifelong Gator, but I’m also the Florida attorney general, and I know injustice when I see it,” she said in a video posted on X. “No rational person or college football fan can look at this situation and not question the result. The NCAA, conferences and the College Football Playoff committee are subject to antitrust laws.

“My office is launching an investigation to examine if the committee was involved in any anticompetitive conduct. As it stands, the committee’s decision reeks of partiality, so we are demanding answers — not only for FSU, but for all schools, teams and fans of college football. In Florida, merit matters. If it’s attention they were looking for, the committee certainly has our attention now.”

The Committee said it had yet to receive anything from the attorney general.

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE 2024 HEISMAN TROPHY RACE

“We will carefully review this demand for information, but it sure seems to be an overly aggressive reaction to a college football ranking in which some fans somewhere were bound to be disappointed,” College Football Playoff executive director Bill Hancock said in a statement, via ESPN.

Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., welcomed Moody’s investigation.

Warriors’ Draymond Green wildly punches Suns’ Jusuf Nurkic in face, leads to another ejection

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green found himself in hot water on Tuesday night after he wildly swung his arm and connected with the face of Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic.

The two battled for position in the third quarter of the Suns’ 119-116 win. Green was attempting to gain footing in the corner when he turned around and clocked Nurkic. Green was ejected over the incident.

Dolphins’ Mike McDaniel sent hilarious text message to Peyton Manning

0

Mike McDaniel is in his second year as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. The franchise has benefited from McDaniel’s presence, as the team advanced to the playoffs last year and is on pace to return to the postseason this year.

McDaniel, who spent multiple years under 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, has developed one of the most efficient and exciting offenses in the NFL. The coach has also been a part of multiple viral moments during his time at the helm. In November, McDaniel made an unprompted comment about his height as he spoke to reporters during a press conference saying, “I’m bigger in person, you’re right.”

Earlier in the season, McDaniel appeared to have some fun by breaking into a sprint toward the tunnel at halftime of a game against the New England Patriots. Now, a hilarious text exchange between McDaniel and NFL legend Peyton Manning is making headlines.

During this week’s edition of ESPN’s alternate broadcast, the “ManningCast,” a screenshot of McDaniel’s text message to Manning was put on display.

The screenshot showed a text from Manning to McDaniel in which the two-time Super Bowl winner asked if the coach could set aside a few minutes to chat about the Week 14 game between the Dolphins and Tennessee Titans. Manning initially contacted McDaniel as part of his preparation for the matchup between the two AFC teams.

McDaniel responded by saying, “Um f— yes you’re f—ing Payton manning bro.”

Peyton pointed out McDaniel’s typo to his brother and New York Giants legend Eli Manning.

“The reaction was kind of mixed, Eli. He seemed excited, yet he spelled my name wrong.”

The Manning brothers also jokingly questioned whether McDaniel was confusing Peyton for a different “Payton.” Former New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton, currently coaches one of Manning’s former teams, the Denver Broncos.

The Dolphins ultimately suffered a one-point loss to the Titans. However, Miami’s playoff hopes remain alive as the team still sit in the top spot in the AFC East division.

The Dolphins remain home in Week 15 as they host the Jets. New York is coming off a surprising win over the Houston Texans. Giants’ Tommy DeVito offered courtside St John’s seats at Madison Square Garden by coach Rick Pitino

0

Two-time national championship winning coach Rick Pitino is doing everything in his power to right the ship at St. John’s University while simultaneously bringing some attention to the basketball program.

One way to do that is by inviting an NFL player who has burst on to the scene — quarterback Tommy DeVito.

Pitino told the New York Giants quarterback that he could come to Madison Square Garden and sit courtside to take in an upcoming Red Storm basketball game. St. John’s hosts Fordham this weekend.

DeVito plays his home games just on the other side of the Hudson River. The Giants also train in East Rutherford, so DeVito would have a relatively short commute to Manhattan should he decide to take Pitino up on his offer.

“Hey @tommydevito007 – we need some Italian luck in the Garden this Saturday!! Courtside seats are yours,” Pitino wrote on X Tuesday.

TOMMY DEVITO’S AGENT HAS ‘NO DOUBT’ CLIENT CAN BE GIANTS’ LONG-TERM QUARTERBACK: ‘HE CAN WIN THIS JOB’

DeVito has become one of the most intriguing stories in the league. The rookie sensation has led the Giants to three consecutive wins since he stepped in place of an injured Daniel Jones.

Elsewhere, DeVito’s agent, Sean Stellato, took exception to him being linked to the nickname “Slimy.”

During Peyton and Eli Manning’s “ManningCast,” the former Giants signal-caller said Stellato went by the nickname “Slimy” in college.

“Sean ‘Slimy’ Stellato,” Manning said on the broadcast. “I got some inside intel from some of my boys. That was the nickname in college. Slimy. Thank you for that information. Great research.”

Stellato called into WFAN’s “Boomer and Gio” show Tuesday morning after the Giants’ win over the Green Bay Packers in which DeVito led a game-winning drive for a field goal for a 24-22 victory. Stellato disputed Manning’s nickname claim.

“I don’t understand where ‘Slimy’ comes from,” he said.

Pitino is in his first year with St. John’s, and the team has gotten off to a 6-3 start. Pitino got his first college basketball head coaching job in the late 1970s.

He has also had a stint as the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics head coach. He won national titles at Kentucky and Louisville, with the most recent championship coming in 2013.

It’s why Tyson was excited to promote his cannabis brand, Tyson 2.0, arriving in New York in partnership Hudson Cannabis at CONBUD in Manhattan. Hundreds flocked to the cannabis dispensary to meet Tyson and get their hands on his products, which are under global brand house CarmaHold Co.

In just two years on the market, the products have had an impact on the fast-growing cannabis industry. Tyson got into the business because of his own use of marijuana, which he has said “saved my life.”

For many of today’s older adults, a pickleball paddle is the best medicine.

Beyond the physical benefits, the fast-growing sport is helping to improve seniors’ mental health, according to a new survey.

Carewell, a North Carolina-based company that supports caregivers, did a survey of 1,000 Americans about the impact pickleball has had on their psyche.

WHAT IS PICKLEBALL?

Nearly 70% of older adults reported reduced stress and anxiety after playing the sport, while 64% found the game to be “uplifting.”

Half the seniors surveyed said they value the sense of community that comes with pickleball, and one in three experienced enhanced cognition and increased self-esteem.

“Overall, our study sheds light on a compelling shift in societal attitudes toward aging, fitness and family dynamics,” James Campigotto, one of the researchers for Carewell, told Fox News Digital.

“The data proves the multifaceted impact of this sport on the well-being of seniors.”

The game also provides seniors with the opportunity to spend time with younger family members.

PICKLEBALL INJURIES COULD COST UP TO $500 MILLION THIS YEAR, WALL STREET ANALYSTS PREDICT

Around 36% of Gen Z and millennial players use physical activities like pickleball as a means to connect with their older family members, the survey found.

“This not only challenges today’s narratives about digital disconnection but also emphasizes the power of shared experiences in strengthening family bonds,” said Campigotto.

Pickleball is a paddle sport that dates back to 1965.

The game can be played with two or four participants (singles or doubles) on an indoor or outdoor court.

The players use paddles to hit a hollow plastic ball back and forth over a 34-inch-high net while adhering to the rules of the game.

Laura Gainor, Florida-based founder of Vossberg Gainor, the world’s first pickleball marketing agency, and Pickleball in the Sun, a lifestyle and leisure brand, noted that the pandemic played a pivotal role in the sport’s quick growth, as individuals sought outdoor activities that allowed for both recreation and social interaction.

She was not involved in the new survey.

“The surge in pickleball’s popularity underscores its status as a sport that not only provides physical and mental well-being but also fosters a sense of community and connection, a testament to its enduring appeal across generations,” she told Fox News Digital.

“The sport’s adaptability and accessibility have made it an appealing choice for people of all ages.”

Gainor added, “Seniors are able to visit their local pickleball courts easily as an individual and jump in on recreational games to be healthy and active and build social relationships.”

Kristina Centenari, certified fitness coach at the San Francisco fitness equipment company Tonal, who also was not involved in the Carewell research, noted that pickleball is a “much more approachable” sport for seniors due to the smaller court and lighter-weight equipment.

“And while it still requires some level of athleticism, pickleball is also usually played in doubles, which introduces a social element that many people who are new to fitness enjoy,” she told Fox News Digital.

Safety tips for senior pickleball players

As pickleball’s popularity keeps growing, the sport also brings the potential for more injuries.

The most common misconception is that players think they can wear their everyday running shoes on the pickleball court, but that is causing doctors to see an increase in patients with leg and ankle injuries, Gainor warned.

Arnold Poblete, director of athletics and certified pickleball instructor at The Sporting Club at the Bellevue, a luxury fitness club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, recommends that seniors and players of all ages take the time to warm up properly before starting to play.
