Clemson’s Dabo Swinney unloads on ‘smart a–‘ fan during call-in radio show: ‘You’re part of the problem’

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, a two-time national champion, has heard enough.

The Tigers are going through a tough season, sitting at 4-4 after a loss to NC State over the weekend. The loss dropped Clemson to 2-4 in the ACC as the program is in the midst of its worst season in over a decade.

On Monday, a Clemson fan called into the weekly “Tiger Calls” radio show with Swinney and questioned his salary amidst a down year.

“So, I’m curious. Why are we paying you $11.5 million to go 4-4?” the caller asked Swinney after questioning his coaching hires and calling him arrogant.

“You’re part of the problem, to be honest with you,” Swinney responded.

“The appreciation, the expectation is greater than the appreciation,” he continued. “And that’s the problem. We’ve won 12 10-plus-win seasons in a row. That’s happened three times in 150 years. So if you want to know why, Clemson ain’t sniff a national championship for 35 years. We’ve won two in seven years. And there’s only two other teams that can say that – Georgia and Alabama. OK?

“Is this a bad year? Ya, and it’s my responsibility. Take 100% responsibility for it. But all this bullcrap you’re thinking and all these narratives you read … Listen, man, you can have your opinion all you want. And you can apply for the job. And good luck to you.”

Swinney went on to lament the lack of appreciation from fans considering the amount of success the program has had under his leadership.

The Tigers have won double-digit games every year since 2011, winning the national championship in 2016 and 2018.

“And what’s happened at Clemson is we’ve won so much – it used to be the fun is in the winning – now, even when you win, people like you complain, and criticize the coaches, and question everything,” Swinney said.

“To answer your question, I started as the lowest-paid coach in this freaking business,” Swinney added. “And I’m where I am because I’ve worked my a– off. Every single day. And I ain’t gonna let some smart a– kid get on this phone and create this stuff.

“So, if you got a problem with that, I don’t care. I work for the board of trustees, the president, and the AD. And if they’re tired of me leading this program all they gotta do is let me know. I’ll go somewhere else where there is an appreciation.”

Clemson will miss the College Football Playoff for the third consecutive year after playing in the CFP every year from 2016-2021.

Three of Clemson’s four losses were by one score.

Sixers unload disgruntled James Harden in blockbuster trade with Clippers

The saga between the Philadelphia 76ers and 10-time All-Star James Harden has seemingly come to an end.

A disgruntled Harden has been noticeably absent from the 76ers lineup to start the 2023 NBA season following a trade request and his public criticism of 76ers president Daryl Morey, whom he called a “liar.”

“Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of,” Harden vowed in August.

Months later, Harden’s request was granted.

Sources told ESPN that Harden, along with PJ Tucker and Filip Petrusev, were dealt to the Los Angeles Clippers in a trade that saw Philadelphia acquire a number of draft picks, including a first round pick from a third team, and Marcus Morris, Robert Covington, Nic Batum and KJ Martin.

The Clippers were Harden’s early favorites when trade talks first began over the summer. Those conversations fell through, but according to the report, they resumed over the weekend and a deal was reached late Monday night.

Harden sat on the bench alongside teammates during Sunday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, marking his third-straight missed game. The team cited his need to “ramp up” conditioning.

Sources close to Harden told ESPN that the former Houston Rockets star is “ecstatic” over the reported trade.

Harden, who picked up his $35.6 million contract option in June with the belief the team would trade him, was acquired by the 76ers at the 2022 trade deadline from Brooklyn.

He is now preparing to play for his fifth NBA team.

Warren Buffett’s ‘crypto stock’ beats Apple and Amazon — but not Bitcoin

0

Warren Buffett may still view cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin (BTC) as “rat poison squared,” but he is generating big profits from his position in a crypto-friendly bank in 2023.

Warren Buffett’s “crypto bet” up $130 million in 2023

The “Oracle of Omaha” purchased 107 million shares of Nu Holdings, a Brazil-based fintech company and owner of the crypto-friendly Nubank, via his firm, Berkshire Hathaway, in two separate rounds in 2021.

Berkshire invested $500 million in Nu Holdings in June 2021 and raised its stake by another $250 million in December 2021. The firm has not sold a single share since, according to its second quarter 2023 earnings report.

Nu’s share price is currently up nearly 106% year-to-date (YTD), meaning Buffett’s $750 million position is now worth around $879.50 million, assuming Berkshire has still not sold any of its Nu shares. However, at its peak in February 2022, the position was worth over $1 billion.

Why is Nubank crypto-friendly?

Nubank has been dubbed crypto-friendly because some of its divisions offer crypto-related services to over 1.35 million users. Therefore, investing in Nubank can be seen as having indirect exposure to the cryptocurrency industry.

That includes Easynvest, a trading platform that offers a Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) product, and Nubank, a digital financial services platform that offers BTC and Ether (ETH) trading. Nubank also launched a loyalty token on the Polygon blockchain.

Moreover, Nu Holdings allocated 1% of its cash holdings to Bitcoin in May 2022.

“This move reinforces the company’s conviction in Bitcoin’s current and future potential in disrupting financial services in the region,” Nubank stated at the time.

Nubank is the largest fintech bank in Latin America, with over 80 million customers in Brazil.

Nu crushes Apple and Amazon stocks

Underperforming Nu stocks are Buffett’s other top holdings, Amazon and Apple, which have gained 54.65% and 36%, respectively. Apple is by far the biggest holding of Berkshire Hathaway, comprising roughly 45% of its $354 billion investment portfolio as of September 2023.

Nu has also outperformed Berkshire Hathaway’s stock, which has risen 9.25% YTD.

Bitcoin price performance catches up with Nu stock

Nevertheless, Bitcoin has finally caught up to the price performance of Nu stock this year. In fact, BTC price is now also up 106% YTD amid “Uptober” and recent Bitcoin ETF euphoria.

Interestingly, Bitcoin’s rapid rise to catch up with Nu over the past weeks has coincided with BTC decoupling from the stock market in October.

But while this is generally seen as a bullish sign, some commentators argue that Bitcoin ETF “hopium” is the driver of BTC price gains presently.
