Patrick Mahomes, dealing with flu, gets IV treatment to play vs Broncos: report

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is under the weather heading into Sunday’s matchup against the Denver Broncos on the road, but that won’t keep him out of this AFC West rivalry game.

The Chiefs announced that Mahomes is dealing with an illness, but he did not get an injury designation on Sunday morning that would put his status for the game in jeopardy. He wasn’t on the injury report all week either.

According to NFL Network, Mahomes has been dealing with the flu, and after feeling symptoms on Saturday, he had IVs administered, so he could get the proper fluids that would allow him to play.

While the Chiefs appear confident that Mahomes’ sickness won’t affect his play, the Denver area is expected to see several inches of snow, which of course isn’t the best environment for someone dealing with an illness.

But Mahomes has always been one to try to play no matter what he may be dealing with physically.

The two-time MVP has helped lead the Chiefs to a 6-1 record to start the season, and he wants to keep that going against a Broncos squad they beat earlier this year.

Mahomes is coming off the best game of the season by far last week, where the Chiefs dominated the Los Angeles Chargers, 31-17. He lit it up in the first half, which eventually led to a 424-yard performance with four touchdown passes and one interception thrown on 32 of 42.

Mahomes has been crushing it through seven starts this season, totaling 2,017 yards with 15 touchdowns to six interceptions, completing 69.5% of his passes, which would be a career-high if the season ended today.

We’ll see how much the expected snow affects this game, especially in the passing game for both Mahomes and his quarterback opponent, Russell Wilson, at 4:25 p.m. ET.

Clean up your photos the fast way

Your iPhone has a “duplicate photos” folder where you can merge any doubles. It’s so easy to use. Here’s how:

Open the Photos app and select Albums.
Scroll down and select Duplicates. It’s under Utilities.
You can select all of them by hitting Select > Select all > Merge, or select individual photos and tap Merge.
Confirm your choice and take back some storage space.

On Android, open the Files by Google app, then select Clean. If you don’t have it, download it for free from the Google Play Store.

Tap Confirm and free up > See junk files and select what you want to remove. When you’re ready, tap Clear > Clear.

That’s all it takes to remove screenshots, memes, duplicates and other junk hiding among the photos you care about.

For iPhone Users:

Open Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb.
Scroll to the Set a Schedule section and tap Add Schedule. Here, select Time and set the From and To times that you want your phone to be in this zen-like state.
Want calls from certain people to come through? Under Allow Notifications, select People > Add People and choose from your Contacts list.

For Android Users:

Swipe down from the top of your screen and hit that gear icon.
Find Do Not Disturb. Different Androids have this in slightly different places, but it’s often under Sound or Notifications. Tap Do Not Disturb.
Look for an option like Turn on automatically or Schedule. Set your start and end times there.
Look for the Allow exceptions option to let important contacts reach you.

Use your webcam to scan docs

Your webcam is good for more than video meetings. Use it as a scanner when you need to get a document onto your computer and don’t want to go through the steps of taking a photo, sending it to yourself and formatting it.

On a Mac, open Photo Booth. Place your document in front of the webcam and line it up on the screen. Hit the red photo icon to take a picture. It will then appear in the bottom right corner. Drag it onto your desktop for safekeeping.
On a Windows PC, open the Camera app. Line up your document in front of the webcam, then hit the white camera icon to snap a photo. Your photo will appear in the bottom right corner. Click it, then the three dots in the upper right. Choose Open folder to see where it’s stored on your computer.

Brazil’s USDT adoption soars in 2023, makes up 80% of all crypto transactions

Stablecoin Tether (USDT) has seen a significant surge in adoption in Brazil, accounting for 80% of all cryptocurrency transactions in the country, according to data from Brazil’s revenue service agency.

As of mid-October, USDT transactions in Brazil this year amounted to $271 billion Brazilian reais (~$55 billion), almost double the volume of Bitcoin (BTC) transactions in the country, which were $151 billion reais (~$30 billion). Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies designed to have a stable value, often pegged to the value of fiat currencies, like the U.S. dollar and the Brazilian real.

USDT transactions have been on the rise in Brazil since 2021, but crossed Bitcoin volume for the first time in July 2022, just at the peak of the crypto industry’s storm last year, when crypto lenders Three Arrows Capital and Voyager Capital collapsed.

The crypto winter slashed the volume of crypto transactions in the country by nearly 25% in 2022, ending at $154.4 billion reais, or ~$31 billion, the government reported.

The Brazilian tax agency tracks crypto-related activities of citizens using a sophisticated system that relies on artificial intelligence and network analysis. According to a blog post, the system is able to detect suspicious activity as well as trace the location of individuals trading cryptocurrencies.

The revenue agency is also targeting crypto investments held by the country’s citizens overseas. On Oct. 25, the local Congress passed legislation that recognizes cryptocurrencies as “financial assets” for tax purposes in foreign investments. Earnings overseas between 6,000 and 50,000 reais (~$10,000) will be subject to a 15% tax rate starting in January 2024. Above this threshold, taxes will be applied at 22.5%.

Since 2019, crypto exchanges operating in Brazil are required to disclose all user transactions to the government. Capital gains from crypto sales exceeding 35,000 reais (~7,000) per month are subject to a progressive tax bracket of 15% to 22.50%.

Global crypto exchanges such as Coinbase, Binance, Bitso, and Crypto.com operate in the country alongside local players such as Mercado Bitcoin and Foxbit.
