“The remarkable surge in ‘buy Bitcoin’ searches in the UK, combined with the cryptocurrency’s resurgence, underscores the growing interest and potential impact of traditional financial institutions’ involvement in the world of digital assets,” said a spokesperson from Cryptogambling.tv.
While users in the U.K. led the pack, there was also a noticeable increase in searches relating to purchasing Bitcoin from web users across the globe.
According to data from Google Trends, searches from users in the United States for “should I buy Bitcoin now?” increased by more than 250% while more niche searches including “can I buy Bitcoin on Fidelity?” increased by over 3,100% in the last week.
Zooming out further, the search term “Is it a good time to buy Bitcoin?” saw a 110% gain worldwide over the last week. In comparison “BlackRock Bitcoin ETF” grew 250%, demonstrating broader enthusiasm for information relating to BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), which is currently pending approval.
The sudden uptick in interest comes amid a drastic increase in the price of Bitcoin over the past fortnight, with Bitcoin briefly surpassing a value of $35,000 on Oct. 24, the first time since May 2022.
Senior ETF analysts Eric Balchunas and James Seyffart have pinned the probability of an approval at 90% by Jan. 10 next year.
I’ve gotten a lot of questions regarding my current view on Spot #Bitcoin ETFs over the last couple weeks. This is the first section of the note I put out yesterday with @EricBalchunas.
Multiple reports Thursday said All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey will make his Miami Dolphins debut this week, but that was news to him.
Rmasey took to X to explain he’s gotten numerous texts and calls, and he had no clue why until he saw the reports.
“So this is why I just got a crazy amount of texts. Well, this is news to me,” Ramsey wrote. “…mfs don’t care about being right, they care about being first in today’s media. That’s sad.”

Ramsey needs to be activated off the injured reserve to play Sunday after dealing with a knee injury he suffered in the summer. He’s been practicing with the team.
If Ramsey does play, it would be the first time in three months Ramsey can join his new teammates in a game.
He was traded to the Dolphins in the offseason by the Los Angeles Rams because Miami wanted to bolster its secondary that already included Xavien Howard.
Ramsey was placed on the IR Aug. 31 after tearing his meniscus during training camp, and his recovery has been faster than expected.

The Dolphins got positive updates elsewhere Thursday on wide receiver Tyreek Hill and running back Raheem Mostert, who are both slated to play Sunday.
Ramsey, who celebrated his 29th birthday Oct. 24, is playing for his third NFL team entering his ninth season. The previous 3½ came with the Rams, who traded for him in a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019.
He followed that up in 2022 with four more interceptions and collecting the first two sacks of his career. He also forced two fumbles and had a career-high 88 tackles.

With Howard and Kader Kohou also banged up for the Dolphins, Ramsey’s return would come at a great time for a Miami team that fell to the Philadelphia Eagles on the road last week to drop to 5-2 on the season.

I’m in the process of settling into a new home. The other day, someone had to log into the Wi-Fi to set up something on the network.
Right after he left, I logged in and kicked the device off my network. I’m a stickler for keeping my network safe and tidy. You should be too, and it’s easier than you think.
Look at your network’s settings, and you might be surprised at who and what have access. It’s relatively simple to get an idea of who’s using your network in your router’s online interface. Log into your router to see the most up-to-date information about which devices are connected. Most models will support this as it’s a pretty universal feature.
Once you have it, type the IP address into your browser’s address bar. You should be brought to your router’s menu. You’ll need to log in with the custom username and password for your router or the default information if you never set one.
Once you’re in, check for a list that says DHCP Client or Connected Devices. From there, you’ll be met with a list of devices currently using your network. If you see something you don’t recognize, change your Wi-Fi password, and reconnect only the devices you trust. It’s a pretty lengthy process, but one worth doing.
You can also manually remove individual devices from the list of connected gadgets. Look for the command to delete, block or remove.
Use Advanced IP Scanner
If you don’t feel comfortable digging into your network, you can always have an app do it for you. Advanced IP Scanner is a free and reliable option that delivers fast results with very little input from you. It’s compatible with Windows 10 and 11.
To use Advanced IP Scanner, you must download and install it, then run the program to analyze your wireless network. Click the large green button that says SCAN. It will commence a network scan to show you all the devices currently connected to your Wi-Fi.
It should only take a few seconds, and you can even export your results for safekeeping. This is an excellent method for anyone less comfortable with tech, especially since it’s fast and easy.
Use Acrylic Wi-Fi Analyzer
If you’re looking for something with more oomph, try Acrylic’s Wi-Fi Analyzer. You can choose between the free and paid options, and it does more than allow you to see what devices are on your Wi-Fi network.
The free version gives you information on up to five devices, while the paid version gives you info for unlimited devices. It can also help monitor traffic on your network, manage passwords, and much more. This would be a fantastic business solution or a realistic option for anyone with multiple networks.
Sometimes a technician will need to access your network to diagnose a problem or set up a new system or device. For example, a smart sprinkler tech may need to access your Wi-Fi to set up the sprinkler zones. Once they’re finished with the job, remove their device.
If you go through a breakup, remove all your ex’s devices and any shared ones just to be safe.
One final step
Change your network password as needed, especially when kicking off a snooping stranger or someone you’ve parted ways with. It’s the safest way to protect your privacy.

Phishing scammers have cloned the websites of crypto media outlet Blockworks and Ethereum blockchain scanner Etherscan to trick unsuspecting readers into interacting with a phishing site.
A cloned Blockworks site displays a fake “BREAKING” news report of a supposed multimillion-dollar “approvals exploit” on the decentralized exchange Uniswap and encourages users to a faked Etherscan website to rescind approvals.

An age check of the domains shows the fake Etherscan site — approvalscan.io — was registered on Oct. 25, with the faked Blockworks site — blockworks.media registered a day later.
Longtime Alabama coach Nick Saban offered a potential solution to college football’s sign-stealing problem — in-helmet communication devices.
In the NFL, a speaker is placed inside the quarterback’s helmet which allows the player to receive the play call from the coach. One player on the defensive side of the football also hears the play call from the sideline. This type of communication is currently not allowed at the college football level.
The second-ranked Michigan Wolverines are under an NCAA investigation after allegations of a sign-stealing operation surfaced. But Saban believes putting speakers in helmets could reduce the amount of time teams possibly dedicate to studying opponents’ signals.
“If you look historically, you’ll know that there were reasons that they (the NFL) changed the rules so you couldn’t do that (steal signs),” Saban said during a recent appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

“Then they come with the microphone in the helmet, whatever they call it, and there was no sign stealing. There was no signs because it was just communication. Which I think we would solve a lot of those problems if we would do the same thing in college football.”
Saban further argued that there is “no reason” to not implement in-helmet communication.
“There’s no reason not to do that. There’s no reason that you just can’t tell the quarterback what the play is rather than having signs and signals and three people signaling and all this stuff to try to get the play, which is more difficult for the players, incidentally, because they’ve all got to get the sign because everybody’s gone ‘no huddle,’” he said.
Saban added that players on the defensive side of the ball would also benefit from having the ability to communicate with the sideline.
“And for the defensive players who are going against a fastball team, all 11 guys gotta know the signals, all 11 guys gotta know the signs because they’re going fast and you can’t communicate it, rather than just being able to tell somebody this is the call,” he said.
Saban was working as an assistant coach in the NFL when the league began using headset communication.
Last week, Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel announced that Connor Stalions, a member of the football staff, was suspended with pay. Stalions is accused of purchasing tickets for several games of future opponents to allegedly engage in in-person scouting.

Largest money laundering scandal in Australia unravels
Changjiang Currency Exchange, a money transmitter business based in Australia, has beenbustedin a $145 million ($230 million Aussie dollar) money laundering scandal.
On October 26 a 300-strong police operation spanning Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth arrested seven individuals — four Chinese citizens and three Australian nationals, after a 14-month investigation.
Operating under the front of a legitimate currency exchange business, police say that Changjiang Currency Exchange allegedly helped launder dirty funds and tainted cryptocurrency from investment scams and unregistered crypto exchanges.
In one single incident, a 37-year-old Chinese national was accused of using Changjiang’s services to launder $63 million (A$100M) worth of funds received from a multinational Ponzi scheme.

The investigation began after law enforcement officials noticed irregular traffic at Changjiang kiosks across Australia during a time of strict COVID-19 related lockdowns. Police have since seized $13.27 million (A$21M) in cash and various luxury items believed to have been purchased using proceeds of crime. The investigation remains ongoing.
Bitget’s colorful Q3
Crypto derivatives exchange Bitget has risen to become the fourth-largest by volume, trailing behind only that of Binance, OKX, and ByBit.
According to the October 20 report, Bitget claims that its market share has risen to 9.43%, compared to negligible volume just two years ago. During Q3 2023, the exchange says it onboarded over 9,000 traders along with 85,000 followers or copy-traders, who together achieved a net trading profit of $6.7 million. However, the combined industry trading activity fell by 23% year over year to $4.8 trillion in the quarter.
From July to September, Bitget’s user protection fund peaked at $368 million and now stands at $350 million. The exchange claims that it has no debt alongside a proof-of-reserves ratio exceeding 200%. In September, the firm launched a $100 million EmpowerX Fund dedicated to ecosystem development and hosted a namesake summit in Singapore. It also hired 60 staff in July for its Middle East expansion plans.

After a year of harsh crackdowns on private blockchain enterprises, it appears that China has softened its stance somewhat.
According to local news reports on October 25, Xianyu (literally ‘Bored Fish’), Chinese internet conglomerate Alibaba’s flagship peer-to-peer marketplace, has removed its censorship of “nonfungible tokens” related keywords in its search tool and relisted Topnod NFT collectibles minted on Alibaba’s Ant Blockchain.
Due to regulatory uncertainty, Topnod digital collectibles were prohibited from listing on secondary markets. Last December, Cointelegraph reported the Chinese government’s official NFT trading platform was planned to launch this year. The exchange is still in development at the time of publication. Since 2021, China has officially banned almost all crypto-related activity saved for outright ownership of cryptocurrencies.
Blockchain connects interprovincial health insurance in China
Residents of Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Anhui provinces can now submit and validate their health insurance claims using blockchain technology.
In a partnership with Alibaba’s Ant Insurance, users in the aforementioned regions can submit their claims online, and after blockchain verification for authenticity, receive their reimbursement within hours.
In one instance, an individual known as Mr. Wang submitted his claim for lung cancer treatment in Anhui, and received the full $17,800 (130,000 Chinese Yuan) reimbursement within two hours. Su Fang, Director of the Financial Insurance Institute of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, commented:
“This time, all electronic financial and medical bills in the Yangtze River Delta have been opened and applied on a large scale in commercial insurance claims, marking the true application of the digital Yangtze River Delta construction. This not only brings real convenience to the people, but also improves the efficiency of insurance claims and effectively prevents moral hazard.”
Ant Insurance has operated a blockchain-powered claims portal since 2019. For the past four years, the platform has processed over 2.25 billion medical claims and improved information sharing between insurance providers and medical professionals.

Huaian uses blockchain to improve surveillance
The City of Huaian’s Jianpu People’s Court is using a combination of AI recognition, big data, and blockchain technology to improve law enforcement surveillance.
Starting October 25, the Jianpu People’s Court will create an “all-purpose” system for monitoring visitors entering and leaving court premises. As soon as a visitor is identified to be trespassing in an unauthorized area, the system will alert court bailiffs for their immediate apprehension. Officials say that the system can drastically reduce the patrolling of hard-to-monitor areas:
“Outside the court walls and in the public rest areas outside the courtroom of the main building, etc., intelligent behavior analysis technology can be used to capture and intelligently analyze the behavior of the parties, provide early warning of possible dangerous behaviors such as abnormal gatherings, strenuous exercise, fights, etc., and remind judicial police and other staff to pay attention and deal with it promptly and appropriately.”
Through the system, court bailiffs would gain access to all visitors’ movements and details within court premises. Augmented reality will also enhance hard-to-see areas for better resolution.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will be unavailable for the team’s Week 8 game against the Seattle Seahawks as he continues to deal with a shoulder injury.
Watson started last Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, but backup quarterback PJ Walker was called upon to finish the game, which the Browns won 39-38. Watson has appeared in four games so far this season, but this Sunday’s game will mark the third game he has missed.
The lingering injury has fueled the uncertainty about the Watson’s timetable to return. The veteran signal caller admitted that he currently does not feel ready to be on the football field.
“Right now, we’re not in a space where I should be out there,” Watson said Thursday. “I’m trying to get to a percentage where I can go out there and be very, very beneficial for the team.”

Watson also pushed back against the suggestion that has no desire to get back under center, especially considering his contract with the Browns is fully guaranteed. He argued that critics were attempting to create “controversy and commotion.”
“Why wouldn’t I wanna play?” Watson said. “I just worked my a– off for two years to get back to playing, so why wouldn’t I wanna play?
“This is what I’ve been doing since I was 6 years old. So why wouldn’t I wanna play? I see the same thing. I see all the narratives — this, that and the third. All that stuff is just trying to cause controversy and commotion. I’m fine, I’m happy. I’m not happy with the injury. … (But) why would I do that? None of those national people know me. They don’t talk to me. All that’s speculation. If it ain’t coming from me, then all that other s–t is bulls–t.”

Earlier this week, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said the decision to not play Watson for the entirety of the game was made in an effort to protect the quarterback.
Watson said he is focusing on what he can control.
“I mean, all I can really do is control what I can control,” the three-time Pro Bowler said. “Right now, it’s just rehabbing and trying to come back as strong as possible as soon as I possibly can. … I’m not sure if it’s going to linger or if it’s not. … We’re not in a space where I should be out there.”

Walker is expected to handle the starting quarterback duties when the Browns travel to Seattle for Sunday’s matchup with the Seahawks.
Northwestern State University canceled the remainder of its football season Thursday and announced the retirement of head coach Brad Laird in response to the shooting death of one of its players earlier this month.
The university announced the decision, citing concern for the “mental health and well-being” of its student-athletes after the Oct. 12 death of defensive back Ronnie Caldwell.

“Ronnie was a beloved member of our community, and we miss him dearly,” NSU President Dr. Marcus Jones said in a statement provided by the school.
“While our instinct was to return to the field of play following his death, we’ve since learned that the hurt on our team was too deep. Now it is in the best interest of our players, coaches and staff to pause and to take this time to mourn, to heal and to support Ronnie’s family.”
There were four games remaining on the team’s schedule.
Head coach Brad Laird also announced his decision to step down after six seasons.

“Due to the loss of Ronnie and the emotional burden it has caused me, I don’t feel I can give my all to these players or this program,” Laird said. “Any coach will tell you that their players become like family, so the loss of Ronnie was like losing a son. I love this program and this university, and I know it will persevere and move forward with the competitive spirit that is at the core of our DNA.”
The Natchitoches Police Department responded to reports of gunshots in the area of University Parkway at around 1 a.m. Oct. 12. Once there, they discovered 21-year-old Ronnie Caldwell with several gunshot wounds.
He was later pronounced dead by the Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office.

That same day, Caldwell’s roommate, 27-year-old John McIntosh, was arrested for possession of a gun in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance. His arrest has not been linked to Caldwell’s death
But eight days later, on Oct. 20, one of Caldwell’s former teammates was arrested in Caldwell’s death.
“Detectives with the Natchitoches Police Department and agents with Natchitoches Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force have arrested Maurice Campbell II for obstruction of justice, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance,” a press release from law enforcement read.
According to Northwestern State, Caldwell’s death still remains under investigation.
Cynthia Lummis, a crypto proponent representing Wyoming in the United States Senate, has called on the U.S. Justice Department to consider charges against crypto exchange Binance following the terrorist group Hamas’ attack on Israel.
In an Oct. 26 letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, Lummis and Arkansas Representative French Hill urged Justice Department officials to “reach a charging decision on Binance” and “expeditiously conclude” investigations of allegedly illicit activities involving Tether. The two lawmakers’ remarks followed Hamas launching a coordinated attack against Israel on Oct. 7, which they suggested was supported in part by illicit crypto transactions “providing significant terrorism financing.”
“We urge the Department of Justice to carefully evaluate the extent to which Binance and Tether are providing material support and resources to support terrorism through violations of applicable sanctions laws and the Bank Secrecy Act,” said Lummis and Hill. “To that end, we strongly support swift action by the Department of Justice against Binance and Tether to choke off sources of funding to the terrorists currently targeting Israel.”
When it comes to illicit finance, crypto is not the enemy – bad actors are.
I sent a letter asking DOJ to finish its investigation and consider criminal charges against Binance and Tether after reports they served as intermediaries for Hamas and engaged in illicit activities. pic.twitter.com/M3KGNFkpWc
The letter by Lummis, a Bitcoiner and supporter of crypto legislation in Congress, and Hill, the chair of the Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Inclusion, echoed sentiments expressed by Senator Elizabeth Warren and other lawmakers linking crypto payments to terrorist activities. In contrast to Warren, however, the two Republican lawmakers directed the Justice Department to focus on “bad actors” — in this case, including Binance and Tether.
“[W]e must be careful not to paint all crypto asset intermediaries as suspect when a small handful of bad actors use them for nefarious purposes,” said the letter. “Many crypto asset intermediaries seek to comply with U.S. sanctions and money laundering laws, correctly viewing the regulations as necessary to unlock the promise of crypto assets and distributed ledger technology.”
In the wake of the Oct. 7 attacks, crypto exchange Binance froze accounts linked to Hamas following requests from Israeli law enforcement. However, Lummis and Hill labeled this action as insufficient after the fact, as the exchange allowed terrorist groups to conduct business or was “willfully blind” in doing so. They made similar allegations against Tether for “knowingly facilitating violations of applicable sanctions laws.”
“While some reports claim Binance is now cooperating with Israeli law enforcement, this is immaterial to criminal culpability because Binance is only doing so after knowingly allowing its exchange to be used by terrorist organizations, and only after they have been caught.”
On Oct. 25, blockchain analytics firm Elliptic released a statement directed to U.S. lawmakers and the media saying there was “no evidence” Hamas had received a significant volume of crypto payments to fund its attacks against Israel. Compared to the millions of dollars claimed by other media outlets, Elliptic said one Hamas-linked campaign had raised only $21,000 since the Oct. 7 attack.
The Miami Dolphins were tabbed as the in-season “Hard Knocks” team this year, and they’re not happy about it.
Over the years, teams have been much more outspoken about being featured on the program. The New York Jets were reluctant all offseason before finally being chosen.
The Jets were one of four teams that did not have a choice for the training camp version of the show.
Teams are excused if they have made the playoffs within the previous two years, have a new head coach or have been on the program within the last 10 years.

Apparently, it’s different for the in-season team because the Dolphins made the playoffs last season.
Miami cornerback Xavien Howard is not pleased with the presence of HBO’s cameras.
“‘Hard Knocks’ is bull—-, especially during the season,” he said. “No, I’m serious. I’m not a fan.”
Wide receiver Braxton Berrios added it’s “impossible not to feel a camera in front of you.
“The thing is we want to make it as organic as possible. We want to make our building as normal as possible. So, obviously there’s a fine line,” Berrios added. “We’re not here for a TV show. We’re here to win games.”
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said the show “isn’t something that’s for me,” but the team needs to get used to it.

“The entire team has to figure out how they go about that as well. So, I know, having conversations with some guys in the locker room that, for them, it’s going to be tough as well,” Tagovailoa said.

HBO picked a solid squad. The Dolphins are on pace to have one of the best offenses in the history of the NFL with Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane.
