Mavericks’ Luka Doncic explains postgame interview F-Bomb: ‘In Slovenia that’s not cussing’

0

Four-time NBA All-Star Luka Doncic’s triple-double helped lift the Dallas Mavericks to a victory in the team’s season opener on Wednesday night.

Doncic made some big shots late in the game, and his strong performance spoiled Spurs rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama’s NBA regular season debut as San Antonio suffered a 119-126 loss.

After the game, Doncic heaped praise on a certain rookie who made his debut on Wednesday — albeit his wasn’t referencing Wembanyama. Instead, Doncic lauded Mavericks rookie Dereck Lively II during a televised postgame interview.

But Doncic turned some heads when he let some colorful language slip when he spoke about Lively’s performance.

“He didn’t seem like he was nervous, he played f—ing amazing,” Doncic said about Lively during his post-game interview on ESPN. Lively, the No. 11 overall draft pick, finished Wednesday’s game with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Doncic seemed to quickly realize what he had let slip and apologized. “Sorry, sorry . . . I’m tired,” the Mavericks star said.

The 2019 NBA Rookie of the Year later spoke to reporters in a press conference setting, where he attempted to further explain his use of the f-bomb.

“Look, in Slovenia that’s not cussing, really, we say these words for good morning,” Doncic said with a grin.

Wembanyama played 23 minutes in his NBA debut, scoring 15 points and recording two assists. His stat line was the same as Spurs legend Tim Duncan’s first game.

In Duncan’s 1997 debut game, he also finished with 15 points and two assists.

Former NBA star Dwight Howard teases ‘big announcement’ on social media amid sexual assault allegations

Dwight Howard teased a “big announcement” on social media Wednesday after news broke that the former NBA player had been accused of sexually assaulting a man at his Georgia residence during a July 2021 encounter.

Howard, who last played for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2021-2022 season, posted a video to Instagram showing off his basketball skills with the caption “Big announcement coming soon” written across the video.

He also posted a message that read: “Some gone love you, some gone hate you… Do You!”

The post follows allegations of sexual assault and battery leveled against the one-time NBA champion by a man who claimed that he had first met Howard online in 2020.

The alleged victim, Stephen Harper, also accused Howard of false imprisonment and “intentional infliction of emotional distress,” according to court documents obtained by Radar Online and ESPN.

But an attorney representing Howard told ESPN that the alleged incident was “consensual” and only made public after a demand for payment.

“What was a private consensual encounter was made public for profit and Mr. Howard looks forward to bringing the truth to light in a court of law,” Justin Bailey told the outlet. “The allegations against Mr. Howard are contested. Mr. Howard intends to present the truth.”

“The truth is Mr. Howard blocked Mr. Harper on social media and then was confronted with two options — pay to protect his reputation or have a fabricated story made public. Despite being an easy target due to the subject matter and his status as a celebrity, Mr. Howard chose to trust in the justice system and will rely on all future court filings to speak for themselves.”

But Harper’s attorney Olga Izmaylova disputed this in a statement to Fox News Digital, adding that they “anticipated” Howard’s response and that Harper had not offered consent.

“It has come to my attention that Mr. Howard is now attempting to label my client’s filing of this lawsuit as an act of extortion, which is absolutely false. Mr. Harper is exercising his legal rights, in accordance with Georgia law, and seeking redress for the unlawful acts he endured.”

Izmaylova also noted that a motion to dismiss the case has not yet been filed.

“I can also tell you that Mr. Howard has not yet filed a Motion to Dismiss, which is the appropriate motion that must be filed in order for the court to consider the issue of dismissal. Given that no Motion to Dismiss has been filed, the issue of dismissal is not before the court at this time.”

Howard spent 18 years in the NBA, winning an NBA championship with the Lakers in 2020. He last played for the Taoyuan Leopards of the T1 League, a professional basketball league in Taiwan, last season.

Lawmakers in the United Kingdom have passed legislation allowing authorities to seize and freeze cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC) if used for illicit purposes.

According to official data on the U.K.’s parliamentary acts website, the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Bill is expected to receive royal assent on Oct. 26, meaning the bill would complete all the parliamentary stages in both houses of parliament.

Introduced in September 2022, the passed legislation aims to expand authorities’ ability to crack down on the use of cryptocurrency in crimes like cybercrime, scams and drug trafficking.

One of the provisions of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Bill permits the recovery of crypto assets used in crimes without conviction, as some individuals may avoid conviction by remaining remote. The legislation also aims to combat the use of digital assets “for the purposes of terrorism” or related reasons.

The latest crypto-related legal development in the U.K. aligns with the government’s plans to “robustly” regulate crypto to fight the illicit use of digital assets as part of its economic crime plan from 2023 to 2026. In March, U.K. lawmakers said they targeted to pass the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Bill by the fourth quarter of 2023, in addition to adopting the Financial Action Task Force’s Travel Rule.

As the U.K. government has been cracking down on crypto-related crimes, the country has emerged as a major cryptocurrency economy. According to an October 2023 report by blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis, the U.K. is the biggest crypto country in terms of raw transaction volume in Central, Northern and Western Europe.

In February 2023, the crypto tax platform Recap also reported that London was the world’s most crypto-ready city for business, coming in ahead of Dubai and New York.
